The 2020 George Floyd/BLM/Police Brutality Protests Discussion Thread

These riots show the ridicularity of (in this case) the USA,(the UK's just as bad). 40,000 deaths in nursing homes , no riots, no media coverage.
Why riot? Those people weren't deliberately targeted and killed. The lack of media coverage is a tragedy but it doesn't make the protesters hypocrites.

Why would people riot against Coronavirus? That makes no sense.

ridicularity

That's hilarisome.

Notice how one of the hats for sale (in camo!) is "Keep America Great".

Keep American Great. Not make it great, keep.

Does anyone else feel that the United States went from not great to great in the last four years?

White supremacists, bigots, and Nazis certainly think the country has become greater in the last four years.

This is truly sickening. I understand the cops have got a job to do but when it's so obvious that someone is seriously injured as a result of your actions you don't walk on by. You can see one cop realises how serious it is and moves to help but his supervisor (?) stops him. Clearly bleeding heavily from the ear which is a sign of a fractured skull. That's just inhumane.

It appears that he had found one of their helmets and was just trying to give it back.

Seems like two officers have been suspended without pay whilst this is investigated. However, in a twist the entire Emergency Response Team have resigned in support of the officers.

Suspension is meaningless. They need to be fired or resign.

A homeless guy in a wheelchair shot in the face by LAPD. Look at the female police officer's face in the first picture, she can't believe what the male cop just did.

Good to see, 17 cops on a homeless guy in a wheelchair.

There is probably a crowd behind the camera, out of view. More to it than what you see. But still..

Apparently, there was a group of protestors sheltering in a building nearby.

It seems that the sarcasm in my post wasn't clear enough.

Both police and civilians are using the death of Floyd to act like a bunch of uncivilized morons. Not all of them, but going by the footage that is being uploaded, there are a lot. On both sides. Keep this up and more people will die. On both sides.

Maybe they are members of the Trump Army? Stay safe everyone over there.

You ever notice that when nurses were dealing with Coronavirus they were sharing photos of using plastic bin liners as PPE and many died.

Contrast that with the Police having tanks and helmets and gas masks and batons and tear gas and guns and... well. They seem well equiped.

Absolutely shameful.

That's part of the systematic part. We put more money into policing people (incorrectly) when we should put it into the health system

Best possible way to demonstrate that the police need less money is to riot and burn down buildings amirite? Regardless of what group you think is behind looting, arson, and property destruction across the country, it has to be said that this does not help the argument to "defund the police".

Oh, of course. All of the people behind the looting and property destruction are only there to undermine the true cause we're all here for.

Specifically in my town, people were coming out to protest the protest because they believe in their echo chamber that it's all looting and rioting. One guy who was flipping everyone the finger and saying "**** youuuuu" to everyone got doxxed and the police told him to move out of town for now. So many subtle racists coming out and showing their true colors. But there's more of us than them. We proved that four days in a row that it was a peaceful protest. Really proud of that.

To what I've read, "defund the police" means to decommodify the police. However, that word obviously isn't quite as catchy as defund, which leaves the slogan as a double edged sword. It's an easy & powerful enough statement to make, but it also gives off the notion to abolish police to many.

This doesn't help things either.
No, but good that he got driven out of town. I don't wish any harm on anyone, but I hope to see a lot more for sale signs of people realizing they don't belong here because of their ass-backwards attitudes. Everyone in the town saw them for who they truly are. Good luck going to a store and not getting destroyed.

This...every danged bit of it...doesn't help things.

I'm for peaceful protest. You know what else I'm for? Peaceful protest. No, I didn't have a stroke. Sometimes what is being protested peacefully is peaceful protest.

(Bad language in this one, be warned)

I'm not seeing anything here indicative of violence. There's some fowl language of which I don't approve, but I don't get to decide they can't use it.

It looks like the most detrimental thing they're doing is blocking free passage.

Man, I just saw that Candace Owens video titled I don’t something Floyd omg.
Not sure what to think.
I’m not going to post it here but interested folks should search it up...
Thought provoking...
Especially about two thirds of the way through to the end...

That's pretty much the main point I'm getting at. They were trying to block off the protest and tell them where to go. That's not right. The bad language only makes them look worse.

Human blockades have been utilized in peaceful protest for decades. People opposing racial injustice can be seen utilizing it in the image I posted above, except in that instance it is being done indiscriminately; the apparent rationalization is that those who agree with us will understand and accept the inconvenience for the sake of change and those who don't agree with us deserve to be inconvenienced, but neither side of that rationalization is logical.
