Too bad the patch is out when I have completed the majority of levels without realism. Not tempting to do them over again when realism is there. I guess the people who play the game before the patch has an advantage in winning most races and getting most level and cash...

They shouldn't have released the game before they got proper damage model in. People buy this thing and expect a complete game, not a beta. PC games have been excused because patches were normal, but console games are supposed to be *done*.

There is mechanical damage in split screen after level 10. I samshed in to my brothers zonda and it wouldn't go in a straight line afterwards.

The days of console games being "done" is now a long and distant memory. As soon as consoles got hard drives, this was the inevitable road they were going to take, for better and worse.

Sorry but the physics on that crash are absolutely terrible, I just had a great race in the Japanese classic section- take a break of here for 5 then see that. Its becoming a bit of a curate's egg for me this game - if the car is on the road and doesnt go near any fence, barrier or other car its a perfect driving experience, but racing isnt always like that and the engine shows its flaws at that point

Well

do you think I should remove it from youtube?

No diss

serious question:tup::)

im so upset, im so this and that, they promised this and that, why cant you enjoy the game for the life of your self and take time to appreciate this great game, i give it a 10/10, i mean rome wasnt built in a day, why cant some of you appreciate what we have now, everyone wants, wants rigth away, so if it comes on December 1 the damage patch that is, everyone that is whining will be saying omg its the greatest game in the world, why do you want everything all at once, relax have a drink, look at the unbelievable graphics, sound, snow, rain, 1000 cars, tracks and wonderful photomode they gave us, the damage is coming, like i said this is nt real life like some of you were spoon feed your whole life, it takes time, rome wasnt built in a day, dont you want to be suprised with updates and keeping the game fresh, Kaz said they are going to update the damn game every week/month, can you imagine what they have in the pipe line for us, it will be here just not in a nanosecond like some think happens, take your time PD, i will enjoy it when i get it, whenever it does get here, i am enjoying the million other features we have right now.

I'm having fun with the game and it's my first version of GT, however you can't use the "Rome wasn't built in a day"reasoning. They had more than enough time to get a ton more of the "little"things done better withing that timeframe. Those pixels in shadows and smoke for example are just killers on replays looks horrendous.

I think its wierd how so many people are giving so many anwsers! lol haha I really hate to say it PD. As of right now at this moment GTA IV has better damage than this. it would be kinda fun to watch GT5 cars with the damage model of GTAIV even tho it may not be 100% realistic. my gt5 is still shipping tho! im about to cry! They r both fun games....GT5 ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

I was driving the FT-86 Concept in the Super Car Challenge and had one collision that noticeably damaged my left front bumper. There was a tear stretching out from the brake duct, and a little deformation. The damage seemed consistent with the severity of the impact. I wasn't looking to damage the car, and only noticed this during the replay. I've also been racing a little online, and have noticed competitors cars with scrapped up sides after they've brushed the wall at Daytona.

I just had a thought. What if the terribad hollow thud sound when cars hit each other is really just a placeholder and PD actually modeled different sounds based on where cars connect? They just haven't implemented it because the locational damage model is inextricably tied to the crashing connect sounds and that part isn't ready yet. We can hope anyway.

Are you guys sure there's mechanical damage?

Most of the reviews I've seen say there is no mechanical damage to be found, and that damage is limited to bumps and scratches even on premiums.

Yes. I got my Subaru Rally Car limited to 150km/h in Arcade Mode. I was able to get both doors to fall off, as well.

I just find so much inconsistency with damage on gtplanet here. Some say there is none, some say there is lots. MOST reviewers say there is no damage to be found in the game, or that it's terrible.

I'm just so confused.

They probably didn't try hard enough. The damage is, simply, terrible in this game. It took me a good 20 minutes to get both doors to fall off. After the first door fell off, it was limited to 150km/h and when the second door fell off I could all of a sudden do 250km/h again.

I did a 700km/h crash on SSR7 (458 Italia 350km/h -> GT by Citroen 350km/h) and almost nothing happened to both cars.

Dont be confused, I think everyone (apart from the radicalised GT fanboys) is currently in agreement that the damage model (if it does exist) is terrible. Touch wood it is on the disc and simply needs activating once tweaked by a patch

Nice to meet you, the extreme events says HI! The damage is fine, you aren't at a high enough level to experience it. It present in the higher spec events in case you were wondering, but in arcade mode you can toggle tire damage and fuel depletion. I haven't checked to see what other changes were made since the second update was installed all I noticed was being able to select At and Mt before you head into arcade race.

I find it ridiculous how many people are going where is the damage, like seriously what are you driving in the game for? To watch how your car gets scuffed up? I pretty sure I drive to avoid hitting anything but the air. One guy I ran into online said the games sucks it's the same as GT5P no damage. i wanted to delete him fast, I told him that damage shows up at higher A Spec levels, but that was incorrect it's in the higher difficulty Spec events.

You know, I keep seeing people being put down for their desire to see damage in GT5... are we forgetting that Kaz said damage is in in large part due to user request and that even here at GTP the desire to have damge in is massively in favor?

I mean in both polls damage is heavily favored with near 80% desiring some pretty advanced damage.

Are we really surprised to see people who are dissapointed in the damage around here after that?

As a first timer to this particular racing series, I'm a bit shocked there are neither mechanical nor physical damage. (At least, as far as I've seen.) In 2010, I assumed all racing games had some of both.

People say that damage needs to be "unlocked" at a certain level? I have yet to see any proof. If that really was the case, wouldn't there have been an official statement on this? Why is damage such a mystery?

If this is a true driving "simulation", then damage needs to be included at all levels. If you make a mistake, you should have to pay the price. This is what a "simulation" is...it tries to simulate real life as much as possible. Otherwise, this is just an arcade game (albeit with really great handling physics.) Instead of using my breaks coming off a long straight, I can just slam into the car in front of me, and use that for *instant* breaking. Neither my car nor his will be damaged, and his car won't spin out. (It seems the AI cars are on a rail in this game...that's a different issue...:guilty:) Isn't that really arcade-y??!?

I haven't played a racing simulation/game since Nascar 2003 on the PC. (I'm not partial to Nascar; it's all different dosages of the same pill to me.) The driving model on GT5 is probably a little ahead of this game (overall, that is...the Nascar portion of GT5 is, um, well...you know), however...where's the damage? Even Nascar 2003 had a great physical/mechanical damage model. And GT5 took how long to develop?

Am I looking for the wrong things in this game? Like I said, I'm a first timer to the series...I have no clue how high the bar is set with console racing games, but frankly, if this is it...I'm sour. I hope a patch clears this up.

Am I disappointed with the level of damage I've seen so far? Yes, because so far I've only seen minor cosmetic scrapes that are in no way in proportion to the severity of the impact.

If I come off the road at a corner and slam into a crash barrier at 100mph I want the car to look like AND drive like I just hit a crash barrier at 100mph. And if that severity of the impact means the car is left barely drivable because the body work took the impact and compressed, the wheels are rubbing on the wheel arches, the tires are flat, the steering is off center and pulling to one side, the engine is damaged, leaking fluids and overheating... then THAT'S a simulation.

Given the level of processing power we have in the PS3, all these features are easily achievable. To call GT5 a 'driving simulation' is now more than ever so much further away from the truth, because there is no way you should have an undamaged car after ploughing into the back of another car or crash barrier at 100mph.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the game for what it is, but it's no more a 'game' than the other arcade racers out there.

Just wanted to chime in.I'm currently experiencing mechanical damage. I've been using the good ol AE86 for the start of my career mode. After racing repeatedly (money making) and having sideways fun around the the beginning tracks with an overpowered build redlining often, my car now struggles to power in 2nd. It also bogs down or lacks torque in the upper rpms when shifting. It's very noticable. Haven't taken it for service yet.

Happened around LV 7ish

It's so odd that only some people experience damage. I'm not a good driver and have banged my cars up pretty good. Still, they look fine and drive as they always have.

I'd love to see an youtube example of proper damage. Like pieces falling off etc (there's even a trophy for that so it must be possible).

The most visible damage I'm seeing is that my fully upgraded '69 Camaro SS visibly permanently loses power every race. I think that permanent engine wear is much more severe than in GT4 especially if many modifications have been performed.
