Or just join the mages collage and get a free room with lots of storage. Horse & Carriage cost 50 gold. Bargain.

Find the steed stone, it gives +100 carry capacity. Then raid dungeons and only take items with a 10/1 or greater cost/weight ratio. Sell them on after you are full and re-do. It's labour intensive, but i've got 160k now (I'm not only taking items with a 50/1 ratio ).

The problem is that before you own a house, you can't deposit every item you want to keep that isn't essential to adventuring, so in turn you're probably using up 200 or so of your inventory, when you should be hitting 50 with the right perks. (I lug around 120 or so, But that includes my armour as I have a mix of light and heavy so the perk that negates weight is nullified).

You can also enchant four items to allow carrying. Two of which are a ring and a necklace that weigh practically nothing. I get +37 from each at the moment until I can upgrade alchemy to make better potions.

There are nine storage things in the room you get at the mages college. I'd say that's enough for most people. :)

Quest wise I think I have about 15 Misc objectives on the go and 4/5 full quests, I've spent far to much time working on my gear and I'm subsequently always poor and now I need to get a house. Any decent money making schemes? Right now my only real income is loot selling and the quest rewards but I could do with making some form of business.

As what Syntax said, explore dungeons and solve quests. When you explore dungeons, make sure you loot out the Urns. They contain pilfer amounts of gold, but altogether they can total to hundreds. Trying to become Thane in the Holds will help as well. Practicing Smithing & Alchemy can help too, as some potions you create can value to around 800 (Invisibility + Slow). You can try solving the easiest Miscellaneous quests, like simple deliveries. I'm not sure if it's leveled but when I did one I got around 600 gold.

Don't be afraid to join every faction in the game. I think the game does not take reputation into account, so you can become anyone simultaneously.

Enchanting helps as well. If it's high enough you can create outfits that can double the effectiveness of a skill, thus doubling value.

@ Tired Tyres

It is a must to complete the College of Winterhold quest. It is one of the funnest I did and you get the Arch-Mage's House, which can be highly useful as it is the only home that contains almost every ingredient if you're an Alchemist.

With the looting and carrying, get a horse. Sometimes I'll deliberately over burden quite a lot (like double or tripple my carry capacity) when I'm getting to the end of a dungeon. It's slow walking but as an archer specialising in sneak, it's not a huge issue. Once out of the dungeon, hop on you horse, it will then allow for you to fast travel even though you are overburdened.

Also killing dragons are a good source of income. The bones and skin are worth a fair bit so grab those every time. These can also be heavy so the horse comes in good again at this point.

what's the best way to unlock ingredient effects?

Just eat them when you find them. Simple as that.

Had an unexpected experience today, I played for 3 hours and it didn't freeze once.

And my god, the Riften Theives quests are boring.

You have to consume them to discover their effects. If you're really good at Alchemy then there's a perk that allows you to discover more than one effect. Another way is to utilize recipes bought from merchants.

Gems/jewels are by far the best loot in terms of their value to weight ratio, and I believe when you
find all 24 Stones of Barenziah the perk you gain significantly increases the number of valuable gems you find in containers and on bodies

300+ value for 0.1 weight? Yes please!

You can also learn ingredient effects by combining them with other ingredients that have a matching effect at an alchemy table.

I've got more gems stored in a barrel at my Whiterun house, than what I can sell! And they are accrued from normal playing.

Did anyone defeated all 8 Dragon Priests in the game? So far I killed 2 of them: Morokei and Volsung.

Surprisingly Morokei was the easiest, as all I had to do is hide from him in the hallway and inflict damage using a bow and arrow. If he manages to find me I close the door and wait until he gives up searching. Then rinse and repeat.

I've got 6 now. Having made my character a bow specialist, they have become incredibly easy to defeat. I think the last one I killed took about 3 shots with an fire enchanted epic glass bow. 3x sneak attack, deadric arrows and all the archery perks unlocked.

Actually I'm kind of curious if you get anything for killing all of them.

At the Labrynthian (spelled right?), there's a Wooden Mask somewhere. When you wear it, it'll transport you to Bromjunaar Sanctuary. There you can place all eight masks in some sort of statue. Then it'll make you Konahrik's Mask. The mask will heal you if your HP is low and will damage nearby enemies.

And I agree. If done right Bow & Arrows can kill nearly anything.

Does anyone have any tips on, taking down a ghost. In the (or an) abandoned prison there are some ghosts, the first two are easy but the third one with an axe kills me with a few swings, and he's fast (I'm at level 20).
Don't know what the fastest way is to take him out, tried an axe myself and some stamina poisons but he doesn't seem to run out of it.

Did you try sneak attacks w/ a bow and arrow or Paralysis/Slow poisons?

Tried a sneak attack the first time, just with my axe which failed bad, but the second (and 3rd :P) time one ghost ran to the stronger one and just kept waiting for me to open the cell door and just run towards me leaving no room for a sneak attack.

Maybe I'll have to try and wait it out and try to sneak up again.

I just finished The Dark Brotherhood Questline. My brief review: It was totally epic in every way!

It got really surprising when you kill the Emperor decoy instead of the real Emperor. Then there's the betrayal from Astrid. It disappoints me of the cult's entire status now. Believe me I never suspected such a twist to the story, and I wished Astrid never betrayed the cult like that.

When I was on the ship with the true Emperor, it was too easy going through the guards. But perhaps it should've been taken early in the game, since I was at Level 33. Anyways, when I reached his Quarters, the guy just... gave his life. It was obvious though. He had nowhere to escape, nowhere to go under the knife above his head. I got quite sad when I had to kill him...

I actually dealt with that exact ghost just the other day on my wood elf archer/thief.

Bow didn't work the first time I tried just spamming arrows into him... But slow time perk + being able to do a few sneak attacks in a row? Yeah that worked, he just barely got close enough to detect me as I popped the last arrow into him.

That's what I'm doing next, after I finish the thieves guild which is also a great questline. I did intend to play as 'good' or as best I could for the playthrough, but both those factions are too tempting because I knew the quests would be so good.

I think I'll be starting that one, too. Always like an adventure!

It was. Some quests had me laughing my ass off though, like the one where
you had to kill 'The Gourmet'. So I'm coming up to the guard at the door wearing full Daedric armor. 'Hmm, you look suspicious'. 'But I have this paper that says I can pass!'. 'Hmmm, well okay, come in then.'. Next in the kitchen, more suspicion, but if I put on a chefs hat, everything's okay. :D picture

^^^^

I loved the times where I killed the targets when they were sleeping. Did enough damage to make them disappear or land right below the bed

Just got the game today and WOW. The graphics are amazing, the game is so huge I can't see me getting bored of it before the summer. I used my tv's 2d to 3d conversion, and that looked amazing, just as good as a dedicated game.

I have fallen in love. Annoyed that I have to go to my grandparents tommorow so won't be able to play.

I just can't find someone to talk to for buying the house in Whiterun

It's been mentioned before but I didn't have enough money then.

You have to complete the quest where you confront your first dragon. Then the Jarl's assistant will allow you to buy Breezehome.

EDIT: Now that I passed Level 30 things started to get really challenging. Draugr Deathlords replaced most of the Scroungers, Bandits mostly replaced by Plunderers & Marauders.

Ah, didn't bother to check at the castle :dunce:

Fail :P

Finished The Thieves Guild Questline. Review: Another fun quest, but surprisingly not as fun as Dark Brotherhood to me IMO. Feels a bit generic to me, to be honest. But it is you to figure that out.

I think I'm gonna take the key to the Nightingales. Usually some people would keep it until they unlocked every chest in the game, and then redeem its birthplace. But I have tons of lock picks on me. And plus, I figured out most of the lock's sweet spots w/o having no perks.

Killing Mercer was pretty easy as well. Died on my first try since he suddenly became invisible. On my second try though I blew him away with Unrelenting Force and just sliced n' diced him in the water with my 54 Damage (dual-wield)! He didn't even had a chance to strike me!

I'm at 31 myself also, not having to much trouble just yet bar a section last night with about 5-6 bandit marauders all stacked up in a room it took me a 3rd attempt to work out which way to kill them undetected and I had to slap on some higher damage arrows to get one shots with sneak attacks. I want to keep up consistent one shot sneaks, so I'm may work on some archery boost armor or some smithing equipment to boost the base damage even more.

Thieves guild stuff below:
I found Mercer a doddle to, I could see him even when he was invisible so kept pumping arrows in to him and he never managed to damage me.

I returned the Skeleton key almost immediately, definately worth doing due to one of the potential rewards to choose which makes sneaking a doddle and to be fair lockpicking isn't that hard you can just stack up lockpicks, I currently have 100+.

I saw the guild as a precursor to the Dark Brotherhood, which I'm now ready to begin, I really enjoyed sneaking around the guards in the houses and getting a perfect no kills theft and the dungeons you were sent to were good to. The story was a bit generic I agree, but was good enough for me. Being a thief in general is very addicting, I got some thugs sent after me (who arrived in the middle of a dragon battle!).

I'm seeing a real dark turn for my character, I tried to do things in the least invasive way possible but then I ended up plundering quite regularly. Overall I will end up coming back to the good side, or at least I plan to.
