Would love to see Magnussen get a drive, but I feel McLaren would be against a deal with Vandoorne. I'm hoping that putting him in Super Formula will pay off for a 2017 seat...

Magnussen and Ocon maybe if they replaced both?

Anti-pope. He trawled Twitter about this time last year, lobbying to be recognised as the worst driver of all time. It was pretty embarrassing.

I thought it was rather awesome...he can take a joke after a season like that.

Lotus say that they see no reason to revisit the contracts; it appears that Ghosn was asked leading questions or simply told journalists what they wanted to hear.

Still, it wouldn't surprise me to see either or both drivers dropped for 2017 (if not sooner) as they will want to put their own drivers in the seats.

While he said that, he also said that everything will be confirmed in january so we'll see. Personnaly as a work team I would try to get rid of Maldonado asap.

I'd get rid of Palmer. Maldonado mighy be a liability, but he's got experience.

Teddy Yip Jr. is in the process of evaluating the possibilities of reviving the Theodore Racing Concern name:

Theodore as we know it might have been out of Formula 1 for thirty-odd years, but the brand is apparently big in Asia and Yip has a lot of recent experience running open-wheel teams; he's behind the Status Grand Prix efforts in GP2 and GP3, and he has had some tie-up with Prema Powerteam in the Macau Grand Prix in recent years.

You'd get rid of Palmer if he was a triple world champion though
Fortunately, that's never going to be a problem.

Or Vergne. Or if they're going to wait until 2017, Vaxiviere or Gasly (with bit of work).

Anyway, Indonesian media reporting positive noises about Rio Haryanto.

I wouldn't count too much with Vergne as he's already a Citroen/DS Virgin driver for Formula E. Maybe it's my biased towards that series but I wouldn't think he would leave from a podium capable team to midfield runners that Renault will probably be in 2016.

Surely any driver would take a midfield F1 seat over any Formula-E seat?

That's way to subjective of an issue to say any driver.

Maybe if we were talking about F1 in its glory days, where a mid pack team actually stood a reasonable chance of podiums or even winning a GP, that statement might be a little more accurate.

But with the state of F1 today, I don't think its a cut and dry decision.

What looks better on a resume? Winning in FE, or struggling for points in F1. Where does your personal brand recieve more media coverage; as a front runner in FE, or a mid packer in F1? As a driver, do you want to add your name to the long list of F1 mid pack drivers who's career has gone no where? Do you want to join a sport that is struggling more than it ever has (and has been basically written off until 2020 by a lot of people), or join an up and coming sport?

I still think F1 is the toughest motorsport to win at, but if you have zero chance of winning, I'm not sure the whole "get an F1 seat because it's F1" really holds as much weight as it used to.

I've never seen a Gulf F1 mockup that looks good. It just doesn't work on the shape of the cars. It needs to be a thick block of orange in the middle and swathes of the blue either side. With a thin F1 cockpit, just looks wrong.

No.

I mean that last one looks ok but it's not the classic gulf design. It's trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Will Buxton is saying it's not 100% confirmed for Harayanto, and that there's no confirmation the letter is real as of now. Also that Harayanto may not be qualified for a Superlicense.

Rio Haryanto only has 20 points but he should qualify as he already had a license in 2012 as test driver. So he should fit this criteria:

  • Have accumulated at least 40 points during the three-year period preceding his application
  • Have been granted a superlicence (excluding free practice only superlicence) in any of the previous three seasons.
  • Have been granted a superlicence prior to the previous 3 seasons (excluding free practice only superlicence). In this case, the driver must be judged by the FIA to have recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability in single-seater formula cars.
  • Have finished first in the FIA Formula E Championship of the previous year.

So it would come down to that second part, which I guess he would pass as he'd done decently in lower formula the last three years.
