It is a gold based coating to reduce EM emissions from inside the cockpit, while also absorbing EM emissions directed at the plane. It is more or less a stealthy coating.

What Venom said, but it has been done for some time now. The Prowler for example

F-16s too, for example the shot down Jordanian one:

Problem was, it is or was easily scratched and that gave visibility problems at night.

Wow. I never expected them to use gold in the cockpits. Very interesting. Thanks for the replies.

Formerly HB-JJJ with PrivatAir, however it had its registration changed right before delivery to the airline and flown straight from Seattle for storage her in VCV. Rumors around suggest PrivatAir no longer wants it and is looking for a new owner. Amazing how even brand new Dreamliners (not even 6 months old at the time) find their way to the desert.

B-2 Spirit FTW.

Also, is that YAL-1? That protrusion on the nose is very interesting. I don't see the targeting pod above the cabin, though.

The Mid Atlantic Air Museum has announced the airshow roster for WW2 Weekend this June!

Awesome!!

I missed the MAAM show this past year but I plan on attending this year.

Some years back they had a Ju-87 Stuka.

I'd love to see the Collings Foundation's 'White 3 pop up in an airshow somewhere in the northeast, but according to Rob Collins it's going to stay in the southwest for the foreseeable future.

I've been going the past 6 or 7 years, and I wouldn't miss it. I remember that Stuka too, though it was a scaled down replica unfortunately. Still very cool!

As for the 262, that would be awesome to see one flying!

F-35s "in the wild" (i.e. not doing fly-byes at an air show.)

Doing stuff at Tyndall today. These were on approach, still about seven miles out. They would touch-n-go, then appear again after about 20 minutes after running off somewhere over the gulf.

You want old film? I gots old film! I was thinking I'd posted this here already, but I'm not finding it.

This was shot by my dad on 8mm, no sound. it's a public demonstration of artillery, rockets, and napalm (!!!!) done sometime in 1959 at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. F-100s and an F-104 are seen, there's a launch of an Honest John missile.

It's possible I was in attendance, but not likely - I was two at the time.

Such pretty fireworks...

This year marks the 100th year of U.S. Coast Guard aviation, and much like the Navy did in 2011, this monumental anniversary will be marked by a series of retro paint schemes applied to some of their aircraft. The first in that series is this MH-60T painted just like HH-34 Seahorse, R-5 Dragonfly and HH-19 Chickasaw helicopters during the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s.
