Moving away from the F-35 for a moment, some shots from the aforementioned air show.
1. Greg Ward and his MX2, and all-carbon-fiber aircraft with a 350HP Lycoming. Roll rate of 400 degrees per second! I like this shot for its sharpness, with a 1/160 shutter speed through a 450mm-equivalent lens (300 on a crop sensor.) I will admit my keeper rate at this shutter speed was not very high!
2. Inverted flat spin
3. Somewhere in here he seems to have forgotten which direction he's supposed to point the nose...
4. Kent Peach in his Interstate Cadet. This is his comedy act, he enters the airfield as an untrained pilot who built his airplane while in prison, violating the restricted airspace. The announcer makes a show of trying to teach him the controls and land him safely. In this pass he touches the wingtip to the runway, breaking a bag of powder and making a lot of "smoke." notice the missing aileron, which "fell off" earlier in the act.
5. Later in the day he does another act, landing on this motor home as it drives down the runway. On this day, he had a crosswind of 15 to 20 knots!!! I can't believe he even tried it, much less did it! The wheels are in indents in the platform, and the motor home driver trips a locking device, then stops the motor home with the airplane parked on top.
6. A P-51C restored as a "Red Tail" flown by the Tuskegee Airmen.
6. There was also a P-51D. this one has a second seat and oversize canopy so it can sell rides when not on the airshow circuit.
7. The Commemorative Air Force had their Tora! Tora! Tora! show here, a recreation (sort of) of the Pearl Harbor attack.
8. Lots of pyrotechnics in the show
9. A "Kate" torpedo bomber
10. A P-40 successfully scrambles to tackle the attackers!
11.
12. F-22
13. Looking at him through his own heat haze
14. Flat pass at over 700 miles per hour, barely subsonic
15. The Thunderbirds were the military team
16.
18. A little pull...
18. The solo mirror passes
19.
