I mean Pacific Rim struggled to work here because the general public viewed it as a terrible live-action Transformers rip-off with Godzilla before it opened.

And Pacific Rim isn't even anime (But feels much like a mecha anime).
No.
Pacific Rim struggled for a different reason.
To put it simply.
The robots are fat and fat isn't cool.

I know, I know; that doesn't sound right but hear me out.
Pacific rim robots (per previews) don't even look as fast as OG gundams. Forget NGE robots, I'm talking ground pounders to the max.
People don't want that, looking at a slow, massive robot punch a really big animal makes the average person ask what happened to Nukes.
Seriously, Del Torro dropped the ball when he thought the old mecha movie style would work simply because CGI is better.
He should have focused on art style.
Make the monsters super ugly and don't show them at all (cloverfield hype).
Make the robots NGE badarse, don't let them move unless its straight kungfu.
Finally, and most importantly, Pacific Rim came out in a summer where I was forced to go see Superman.
I genuinely enjoyed superman, no regrets.
But when it came time to see a movie, have a few drinks, eat sushi, and hang out with my little brother, Superman was the choice, not pacific rim.
btw, I love what you all are doing with cos-play pics and not double/triple posting.
Can't wait to see this thread hit the post limit if there is one. I mean, 48,556.

Awesome! 10 years and kicking.
