My selection of Eva 1.11 is based on my love of Eva. I'm not trying to pick the best anime to win over newcomers. Indeed, many of the options you guys have mentioned would be better for that. But not everyone in my class are complete anime virgins. About half have at least one or two that they like, even if it is stuff like DBZ, Bleach and Naruto. I want to expose them to something a little bit more... interesting. :sly:

I would totally show EoE to them, except for the fact that it just wouldn't work at all to try and show it to people who've never even heard of Neon Genesis Evangelion. :P

And I'd love to show 'em 2.22, but without them having seen 1.11 so they know what the hell all this Eva business is about? Nah... So 1.11 it is.

The people in my class with an aversion to anime might not be completely won over by it, true. But I think it stands a good chance of at least getting them to reconsider, assuming they don't drift off into la la land during the movie.

Ideally, their interest will be piqued enough for them to want to see 2.22, which will be where the real magic might happen.

^^ It depends more on the cultural differences between regions, take for example the western cartoons and animated series and its beginnings, evolution and current status, its more childish and marketing orientated, while eastern tendencies(not only Japan, also in the middle east and eastern European countries)tent to be more deep and serious with its subject(for example Lithuanian and Russian cartoons criticising the capitalist model as political propaganda).

Another big deal is the origins, animated media started in the US,in the early 30's which make them a strong point of political propaganda, often making parodies of the Axis forces, while axis did the same thing but they were more serious on its subject matter.

I think that after WWII the tendencies between east and west split up,and from that point both views of cartoons were significantly divided,so it more of cultural change and sub-cultural subjection towards the subject.
(Damn Alter-Ego,I need to restrain him sometimes :sly: )

I guess that I have to find Akira,a lot of people talk about but I cant find time to search it and see it,I guess its worth a look.

I really don't know how people still think cartoons are for kids when there are shows like Family Guy, American Dad, and South Park, to name a few. You can't just generalise like that...

Agreed. Saying anime is for children would be like saying movies, TV or books are for children. Absolutely absurd.

But people get exposed to the likes of Pokemon and Dragonball Z and jump to the conclusion that all anime must be for kids. Then any anime exposure afterwards is immediately dismissed before they give it any real consideration.

Not saying that Pokemon and Dragonball Z are horrible shows. But it's unfortunate that stuff like this tends to be most American's initial contact with anime, and that a lot of 'em jump to the same dumb conclusion from it.

Well, you could always show Batman: Gotham Dark Knight...which was created by Anime producers. If anything, try to find something of interest that the person likes. Not all animes are about magical high school girls that talk about their drama everyday, there is something that you could compare.

The thing is that the douchenozzle in my class has an aversion to anything animated, not just anime. So in that sense, Batman wouldn't be better off than anything else.

I think Evangelion stands a reasonable chance at getting his attention, if only just because of all the religious symbolism. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a heated religious debate somehow sparked because of it. He's very much an athiest and there's another guy in my class who's a devout Christian, and they tend to get into a lot of debates on various matters.

NGE has to do with the Old testament rather than the new... (IMO)

What argument is there in NGE? lol

I'm not saying they'll get into an argument about NGE. But the presense of religious symbolism alone could be enough to trigger a random religious debate about something.

The Tree of life? How each Angel and Evagelion are actually poised as humans and humans are angels? Adam's first wife Lilith? and how each Evangelion unit actually owns a soul of Asuka and Shinji's mothers soul
Yay should just watch Dead and Rebirth then EoE.

You know there's going to be bloodshed when one of them displays hate for 1.11 :sly:

Hate 1.11? Impossible!

Nah. I think the people who've got open minds when it comes to anime will like it, and the people who don't won't. :P

The problems is that many things were changed on 1.11(compared to the series),in fact the reboot as a whole(that might not please fans),However I really like the new version of the operation "yashima",it is fantastic, specially its animation.

Don't forget Asuka's name change.

That too, although I liked the original designs a bit more(brown hair)makes more sense for a German character, also the "Soryu" last name.

Then wait for my response in that case.

edit: Who said they were watching Money of Soul and Possibility Control? Because I started it too.... no reason to be exact.

2nd edit (because this place is sooo dead): hey nk4e, what did you like about Itsuki (Haruhi) that made you want a pic of him as your avatar?

I am actually enjoying the reboot of NGE. It's my favorite anime and I was worried they would completely destroy it but they've been doing a pretty good job so far. Like you, Operation Yashima really stands out for me. Some things I don't like are Asuka's name change and the small change in her personality from the original series. Also Kaji has a much smaller role this time around.

Overall though these movies have been pretty cool and I can't wait for the next one.

I like Asuka's original design but I like her final design much much more. I love the red hair. It really compliments her attitude. It's another thing about these Rebuild movies is her hair is more brown. Not too upset though because the shade of her hair is never consistent (much like the EVA's size lol), even by the animation team.

Been watching Gundam Zeta for the past few days, up to episode 18/50, and so far, solid, classic Gundam. This show is from 1985 and the production qualities remind me a lot of Saint Seiya. All hand animation, and only basic synthesizer sound effects and music. But even so, enjoyable (though fairly typical and predictable as a Gundam) story and characters.

Thought GOSICK 23 left me wanting a conclusion.. i feel it's rushed....

How exactly is Kujo going to save Victorique....I'm waiting for some unrealistic miracle for the finale....

I think I need to seek mental help.

I just watched 1.11 because I'm so excited to watch it tomorrow. And depending on certain circumstances, I may watch it again with another friend on Sunday.

And naturally, now I gotta watch 2.22 again. Sheesh... If Eva weren't so damn awesome, this would be a serious problem. :P

I may be a little tiny bit biased, but I really think 1.11 will go over well tomorrow. Especially Operation Yashima. All the talk about voltages and fire control solutions gets me horny, and I'm sure it will appeal to my classmates too, since we're all Fire Controlmen for the US Navy. Our fire control solutions have more to do with a ship's six degrees of freedom and less to do with the Earth's rotation and magnetic field, but the principle is the same: hit the ****ing target.

And non one watches Seitokai no Ichizon, seriously, not that K-On is bad,but Seitokai is so good and so underrated that makes me cry.

Anyway,My favourite:

six degrees of freedom

That's a lot of degrees of freedom. What exactly are they? You have the freedom to decide: how much thrust/initial acceleration; weight of projectile, angle of elevation; direction; and what else?
