Only watched the first episode but it was a lot different that what I was expecting.

Yeah, I thought Clannad was going to be over the top lame-o girly, too. And it kind of was, but so much more, it just kept me watching until I got over my fear of moe and embraced my inner otaku. Have been recommending it ever since.

@ Cano, been harvesting and taking stuff to market for 3 weeks now finally, which means very long days and weeks... so I'm still only on episode 39, 11 left to watch. Enjoying it, but saving it for when I'm not brain dead tired. I can watch Bleach and Naruto and FIA GT1+GT3 in the mean time, doesn't matter if I forget wtf happened.

If by that you mean churn out dozens of avatars, you're correct. 👍
I could very easily find 3 cool images and make an avatar of this style. In this case though, I sacrificed variety and cool backgrounds because I thought it'd be funny to have Gendo and Misato overlap Shinji.
...and double-posting is bad.

What do you think? Think of it this way, the style sits at 100px in both axis, but premos get more pixels.
The weird shapes allow each image to be more unique: The top panel is best suited for horizontally arrange images, the bottom left is for vertically arrange images, and the bottom right is for images that have a central focal point. The sample used slightly illustrates that.

With Photoshop, sure. I can't make avatars like the one you posted above earlier without an inordinate migraine.

Just tried my hand at that new style, AOS. Currently my profile pic.
Two problems: I made the lines too thin for scaling down to 120px, and I need to reduce the offset of the drop shadow I added or get rid of it completely. Reduces the size of the panels too much for 120px as it is right now.
I'll correct them later though. I've gotta start getting ready to stand watch in a couple minutes.
