Don't give me your... pointless semantics!
That's illegal discussion, my friend...
except for Crunchyroll.
Video quality has improved impressively over the years too, and other areas in which anime has imrpoved a ton is in continuity and arguments, but that can also be said for TV in general.
I think I should rewatch Lucky Star to pick up on the other references i've missed and quite possibly add more response pics![]()
I differ. The quality of ANIMATION has changed and improved a lot, yes. But art? come on. We are still seeing the same formula after 40 years: big eyes, spiky hair, blocky robots, shiny stuff. Think about it. There are only a handful of anime productions that break this seemingly standard industry rule. It has evolved, and a lot, of course. But it's the very same. Watch Astroboy and Metropolis and tell me something about it.
....
But I think that, stylistically, we are watching the same. And no, it's not a complaint.
Oh god.... bring back the lolis! Pleeeease, I need the lolis...![]()
AOSTo relate that to Anime, I dislike older shows because the art is aged and colours are faded compared to what we see now... but I've watched all of NGE, and I lived with it...
I seriously hope you guys aren't basing your viewing choices simply on "whether it looks all shiny, modern and pretty". Just because something looks dated doesn't mean it isn't worth your time, and vice versa with modern shows. That would be like saying "This film is in black and white/art isn't on a good canvas or has faded/song doesn't have good modern recording values, therefore it has no merit creatively or artistically." You aren't really suggesting that, are you?slybuggaYeah for mostly the same reasons, I don't like watching old anime. Only a select few for nostalgia purposes, but I just like the newer stuff since the quality and art style has improved.
Don't blame it on the moonlight,dice1998I blame it on the full moon 👎
I've already watched EVA and Initial D so your argument is completely in aid now![]()
Cano means plot here, more or less. In Spanish argumento is used to mean something closer to what for us is only meant in the legal usage of argument, i.e., a coherent story with clear motivations, etc., not a squabble or fight like we normally mean when we use the word arugment. [/language lesson]
Well, yes and no. I think one of the main problems is that Japanese business has this thing where anything radically different is usually frowned upon as being bad, and "the older generation always know what's right". This means that a lot of the head staff, directors and sponsors don't like change. People bought this last year, and the year before etc so it serves to reason that they will buy it again this year. One doesn't strive to bring change. One doesn't show off. One doesn't know better than seniors.
I think we might be moving away from the "blocky robots" (see: TTGL, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, etc), but most of the generic anime keeps to the style that is popular of the times. There are golden examples out there of releases bucking the trends (Tatami Galaxy comes to mind), but most cliches born from cost cutting and time saving techniques exist even today despite advances in animation techniques and technology and things.
I'm not really sure what you're implying with the Astro Boy and Metropolis reference... they're both done by the same author with his signature style.
We are still looking at the same things 40 years hence. Some things have evolved, but essentially, it's the very same. For whatever reasons.
I did read the conversation, I was just adding my point of view so we could get some actual discussion in instead of photo/video dumps or other stuff.
What did you think of them?
