You think that if people are good game designers, they magically end up being given tons of money to be out there making their own games?

The world doesn't work like that. I could be the world's greatest game designer, and it might take years for me to work my way into the industry. If I'm unlucky, I might never get my break.
No, I don't think that sort of thing happens. If however someone is serious about making a better version, then that would be the path to take. They might not get a lot of money straight off (seriously, where did I ever say or imply lots of money could be had?) but if they truly believed in doing this, then it would be better than just bitching about it on various forums and they'd be following their dream, as well as trying to make a difference. Money was never a part of that.

You implied it in that if someone was to make any sort of game that could seriously address the flaws in Gran Turismo, it would need a serious budget. pCARS is on the borderline of this, they have a lot of the functionality to compete but they don't have the sheer amount of content. And even that has cost them upwards of $5 million dollars, if I recall correctly. That's a lot of money to be making a game that's not even competing directly with the Gran Turismo philosophy.

...but if they truly believed in doing this, then it would be better than just bitching about it on various forums and they'd be following their dream, as well as trying to make a difference. Money was never a part of that.

Because of the type of game Gran Turismo is, money is totally a part. I could write a design document for a perfect Gran Turismo-type game tomorrow, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be able to make that game, or any other game. (Not that I actually could write such a document, but for the sake of argument...)

It's all well and good to be the greatest driver in the world, but without money and support and a good portion of luck (and a hell of a lot of hard work) it's simply not possible to become a top flight professional racing driver. What would have happened to Jann Mardenborough if he had never got his break through GT Academy? Maybe his racing talent would have been showcased in some other way and someone would have given him a drive, but more likely he'd still be doing whatever it was he did before GTA.

Like everyone on here, I've had my fair share of ideas on how an improved Gran Turismo might look. I don't bother writing them down because it takes more than that to actually action them. It's one thing to be able to have great ideas, and it's another to actually make them happen, and the two skills are not necessarily linked.

Which is pretty much the point I was making...
It's not hurting anyone or anything to be disappointed that there was no update so I think you should leave them alone about it.
Personally, I am fed up of people mistaking a maintenance with an update - letting them ramble on uncorrected just gives the impression to any outsiders reading the forum that there are some pretty stupid people around playing this game.

EDIT: well, that how I'd see it if I were a guest viewer.

Yes, the forums would be so much more fun if we had a couple dozen, "its probably just maintenance so I'm not going to set myself up for disappointed because I'm so smart" posts instead.

But @MeanElf we used to get some updates in maintenances before, remember GT5?

Think Forester XT meant GT6 had 2 major maintenances but to no visible effect as a result, then PD added the new seasonals. Also did mention what had they missed gathering someone must've told them something had happen without the full details.

Hey there's meant to be a massive update coming anyway.

I can't believe there wasn't an update that came with the maintenance...omg...my life is ending...I didn't get all the things I wanted from the beginning of the game that I was promised. *sob* I expected each and every one of them to be part of the scheduled maintenance. I have no understanding of how something done server side which doesn't require a download could possibly be anything but an update to the software stored and run on my PS3. How could PD do this to us? What kind of animals run the show over there?

That's it PD and Sony I'm playing only Nintendo 64 games from now on! take that!

With that philosophy you can give me $100 and I'll make you some false promises for it?

It's been nine months since release and the most interesting features promised in the game have yet to arrive, it's past the point where the people complaining can be mocked and/or written off as melodramatic.

Bringing in supposedly major community features so long after release strikes me as utterly stupid, surely PD know by now that >80% of the people that purchased the game around launch will have stopped playing it?

Yeah I'm not disagreeing with that at all. I just find it funny that people keep getting all bent out of shape every time there's scheduled maintenance and we don't get some crazy big update after it's done because the servers were offline for however long it took.

I'm speculating that whenever it is that we get the next update the server maintenance (whatever it was that they did for several hours spread over 2 days) will be put to use. It was most likely related to the course maker or some other large addition to the game that would require a rollout of a new version of server software to handle the changes.

We know we're getting the Vision GT Toyota FT-1 thing in Sept. We have Zahara in the code (at least in name in the database as far as anyone can tell.) We had some massive 2G update last time around and didn't get a whole lot to show for it other than some HD video...It seems like something big is on the horizon.

We are also coming up to Christmas time. GT6 is one of the last big money grabbers for the PS3 era of games. Sony/PD are not fools and they will probably try to make a push so the last quarter of the year can include some GT6 purchases.

Again this is all speculation.

I am also going to mention that it totally sucks that we are 9 months into this and we still don't have the awesome stuff that made me pre-order the game over a year ago. If I had known that this was going to happen last July when I paid $70 or whatever it was I would have waited and just kept playing GT5. I didn't and I'm stuck with that decision and it's not like GT6 sucks it's just the broken promises that suck.

The last NASCR race I went to was in 1969. I use to be a big fan when they used "STOCK" cars. (No, I don't want to start a debate here.) I don't like NASCAR, carts, dirt tracks or drifting on GT. After getting the golds in Career Mode that's all I will see of them. BUT, there are those that are big fans and they should have their fun too. Everyone should be entertained and PD will try, as they should, to cover all of the bases to sell games.

OH! I have to whine about something; So, what was this big two day update we got? Three seasonals? WHOOPEE! Did I miss something?
My how fast we get distracted. The previous few post to mine were about AI cars and NASCAR. Upon reading what I had written, it sounded way to positive for the "Epic Whining and Crying" thread, so I added the comment about the maintenance as a joke. I didn't really care if it was maintenance or an update. I try to keep my post a little bit amusing.

I lost count on how many commented on this and missed the point of the first part. Even Gerarghini totally missed the fact that my post was a comment on his post just prior to mine. (Oh 🤬 did I just say "totally"? I'm way too old for that!)

I'm sorry I distracted everyone. Now can we chill and get back to the Whining and Crying.

NASCAR events in career mode wouldn't be so bad if the Ai weren't complete 🤬 that don't even care if you're there or not and ram into you with reckless abandon.

Granted, I have to agree that they do race dirty, but I prefer them racing dirty and annoy me, to the way they use to drive aka GT5. Now if only they could make the last place car competitive. Last gripe, not make cars back off when you past them. If I'm in a the 500 09' Abarth and I past a Supra to take 3rd place, there's no reason as to why my gap should widen nearly 21+secs from a car that's faster than me.

Very debatable. I think it egde closer to "it sucks" than "it doesnt suck". GT6 is boring so i'd say that qualifies as sucking, Of course this is one mans view (shared by way too many)

That what Career Mode is all about it starts of in Novice and as you become better at it you work your way up in class and that how you become better at it.

Going from the first race in novice mode to one of the S-Class races is a huge difference we know. I am saying that I like all of you started on novice and worked up to S-Class then I found out I am not good enough to complete S-Class or that Senna one at Brands Hatch with a 1.07 gold time (i got bronze YES!!!) I cannot do some of the seasonal races and I can't do the last race at Goodwood with the Redbull. I have tried numerous times and I know I will never do them as this level of game play is beyond me. I would like to complete them alas getting silver now is like getting gold with an easier time, that's not my point, my point is I won't the racing/handling/braking easier for me hence an easier option is required for people like me. I don't won't to spend hours and hours honing a perfect race line and braking line to find no matter what I do I still can't get gold it is boring. With an easier level option it is not a case of easier times it is a case of cars that don't fall off the track in every corner or go out of control as soon as the brake is applied.
It is a game after all enjoyment is the reason for playing it. Driving simulator it is not, if you think it is since when have karts had traction control and anti skid etc......

Driving in the rain is challenging at first, but you can catch on quickly. The S class challenges are fun because it makes you use strategy with tire selection and pit stops depending on conditions. As for karting and NASCAR, those shouldn't even be in the game. Unfortunately they are, as soon as I completed those levels I sold the cars and silly kiddy karts for whatever cash they were worth

I agree with you on karts. Nascar is some peoples dream racing not mine by any stretch of the imagination, I tried it I failed I tried again failed and gave up I just don't like it, some folk love it like I love the IA class of racing that's my enjoyment level hard (for me) but acheivable well some off them are achievable.
I can't handle cars in the rain period they just slide off unless I drive at an average of 15mph and that's pointless and I cannot see where I suppose to be going with all that spray from the cars in front which lasts until the first or second braking zone then the AI dissapear in to the distance like 4x4s with ferrari engines.
S-Class is beyond me I drive fast I brake I skid off or crash my brain cannot cope with the speed the cars go at I am usually half way past the braking zone when I realise I should be braking.
I am trying to remember a race I tried about a week ago I was doing fine in my Zonda then as soon as I got into first place it started raining" what a swizz, Zonda was sliding like Bambi on ice race over and last place or I quit it not sure tbh.

Do you think that real driving on wet is easy?
