people "worried" about Bernie shouldn't worry, because unlike Trump he won't have a bird-brained political party blindly following his every command.
You got that right! The establishment wing of that other bird-brained party hates him so much they will do anything and everything possible to deny him the nomination. Obama, the Clintons, Kerry, Biden even Warren will sabotage him at every turn.

First Iowa results are expected within the hour.

Edit:
Very early on Sanders, Warren and Buttigieg are looking viable. Others, not yet.

Then again, didn't the Republican party dislike Trump before he got elected? This will be interesting to watch.

Again, probably very true. Usually the spoil of delegates taken in Iowa are taken by the top two. Tonight, it may be up to five!

Edit;
Returns are late, due to large turnout and extensive "quality control" measures taken on the ballots.
From a very early perspective, Biden looks to be in trouble. It was hoped he would eke out a narrow win in order to blunt the Bernie bandwagon. But no.
Iowa is an excellent exercise in democracy.

Hmmm, interesting timing considering none of the pre-anointed ones are leading at the moment.

I mean, what is the actual content of the second post? Dues she answer threw question on a negative or positive or is that Sirota fellow just trying to stir the pot?

Superbowl ad: *gruff voice* Others talked about criminal justice reform, Donald Trump got it done, and this black woman get freed from a life sentence in prison because of it.

I couldn't be bothered looking the facts up. I figured it was just Trump being Trump, you know getting things "done". It's similar to the wall.

I was thinking about that immigration policy as I saw it.

Trump wins Iowa caucus.

The Democrat Iowa caucus is an Absolute joke, the party used an app for each leader of each area to tally votes and the app failed so now they lost everything.

Combine this with the Des Moines Tracker Poll fail and the whole process has looked like a circus.

Maybe they are just trying to stop Bernie.

Morning has come and still no results!

Biden's campaign put it this way,

"The app that was intended to relay Caucus results to the Party failed; the Party’s back-up telephonic reporting system likewise has failed. Now, we understand that Caucus Chairs are attempting to — and, in many cases, failing to — report results telephonically to the Party. These acute failures are occurring statewide," Dana Remus, Biden's general counsel, said in the letter.

Biden needed very badly to win. But it was thought he was not even getting to the 15% cutoff for viability for delegates in certain precincts. Biden stands to be revealed as the big loser. So now his campaign wants to suppress the results.

Biden's campaign sent the Iowa Democratic Party a letter complaining about “considerable flaws” in the caucus reporting system. It called for “full explanations and relevant information regarding the methods of quality control you are employing, and an opportunity to respond, before any official results are released.”

Now it gets even crazier.
A tech firm linked to Clinton created the app. This app will be used again in Nevada.

It's almost like the Democrats are trying to purposely screw Sanders out of winning, they'd never do that....oh wait, they did just that in 2016. The Democrats are really shooting themselves in the foot on this one.

Wasn't it Buttigieg?

Just heard on the radio they should have results this afternoon/evening.
They have to do it the old fashioned way and count the paper backups by hand.

Yes, and I think Biden was also linked, with Mayor Pete, to the funding of the app.

With making a fiasco of the Iowa Caucus, the app potentially benefitted Biden and Buttegieg, masking their losses, and damaged the hated Sanders by blunting his momentum and opportunity to gloat at a televised victory speech last night.

Speculation. Once the results are tallied they'll be broadcast. New Hampshire isn't for a week so that's plenty of time for people to hear the news. By all accounts, Bernie went in with a hefty lead and most likely won by the same margin if not more. The live broadcast reports suggested the same.

I choose not to believe this is some sort of conspiracy, although the Democratic Party has sabotaged Bernie before. It's probably just a case of added complexity and gross incompetence by...somebody, I don't know.

Anyone ever notice how Bernie's hands are never in the cookie jar when things go wrong? It's almost like he doesn't meddle. He doesn't try to unfairly gain an advantage. It's almost like he's not a total knob, and might be the type of person we actually want in charge.

I agree. Bernie is a cool guy and he'd be a nothing-gets-done president - just want we or at least I really want. He's been in the Congress a thousand times as long as Warren, and yet Bernie has accomplished exactly zero, IMO.

OK. Here's the thing: the Iowa caucus has an old fashioned, town-hally vibe. I watched as the participants raised & lowered their hands to be counted - all very low-tech & straightforward. Then ... they introduce into the process, quite unnecessarily, an AP ... & the whole thing collapses into chaos.

I may be an olde worlde type ... but why in the hell do they need an ap for something so simple? This reminds of the way Millennials & (especially) iGeners use cell phones. 30 minutes of texting backwards & forwards to establish something that could be achieved with a two minute phone call.

Agreed...

although there is the other problem, where (old) people refuse to use the efficiency of texting and insist on a time-wasting phone call.

You mean like when your Mom calls to see how you're doing & wastes your time when you could be creating your 26,259th post on GTPlanet? :sly:

Except for his position on just about everything political, he seems cool.

I'm pretty much of the same mind with Sanders. I don't like his political stances, but as a person, he seems alright and I genuinely don't think you'd hear any kind of scandal with him. If it was him vs. Trump, I'd be more tolerant of Sanders for four years since the likelihood of him pushing anything crazy through would be slim to none. He'd just talk a lot and get people excited for things that would never happen. He'd probably not go to war either, so that's a plus too.

With 62% of the vote counted, Buttigieg is winning Iowa with a small lead over Sanders.. Biden a distant 4th.
