I Just watched Biden's speech. Republicans are going to have to come up with a new narrative, I don't think senile will work for them anymore.

He did stamer and slur abit, but no more than Trump.

Sleepy Joe still fits though.

One of the more astonishing things about this election and the presidential term preceding it is that it has led to people on this forum, and I'm sure others in reality, who are conviction voters who vote for third-party and minor candidates and encourage others to do so, to become single topic voters, even if only temporarily.

It really says something for someone to go from a conviction third-party to, at least for this cycle, making a huge personal concession because stopping Trump and voting for only the second-worst candidate is more important than voting for someone whom you actually support and believe in.

Let's hope Biden is boring and unexceptional in office otherwise those conviction voters may have to put their principles on hold a second time.

God the GOP convention really was a train wreck with their speakers. Like that's that best you could come up with?

They're runnin' out of bodies to parade in front of the cameras.
Maybe they're not putting the effort in because they figure Trump is doing their job for them. It's a shame disaffected Republicans make a better case for voting for them than many on their own party. I hope they don’t screw this up through low effort and internal squabbling.

Were it up to me I'd consider inviting Rep. Steve King to talk about immigration issues. I've heard he's looking for a job recently. :D

[EDIT]Oh man, even I'm finding it hard to watch this one with a straight face. Those Bushies must've been laughing their pants off when they put this together:

I know he's suffered a lot of tragedy in his life but I can’t help thinking what'll happen when the anti-Trump Repubs turn against him. Hopefully Trump'll be history by then.

When this first started, I thought it was a joke.

You guys know that the GOP convention is next week, this past week was the dems.

Let them have their Biden moment. Just sit back and laugh man.

I'm trying to interpret this comment. You make it sound like a bunch of people here love Biden. I think there might be a few, but most here don't (this is just my take on the general sentiment). And I think most people in the country don't love Biden. I think a lot of people hate Trump though. And for the most part, if they're having a moment, that's the moment.

"Oh my gawd, it's somebody besides Trump. Please tell me this trainwreck is coming to an end."

The moment looks like that for the most part.

I agree that a vote for Biden, for many people, is going to be a vote against Trump. However, I think you're underselling Biden somewhat. Do people "love" him, the way some people "love" Trump? No. But a lot of people who know Biden seem to like him a lot, including Lindsey Graham:

I think most people in the US, including some leading Republicans, see Biden as a "caretaker President", someone who will take away the bitter taste of the Trump era & allow the possibility of some kind of consensus building in US politics.

I think we're saying roughly the same thing, just focusing on different parts of it.

What?! I was just making a joke about them slipping up and calling it the GOP debates...

Why do the simplest of jokes have to be so over thought?

Hell Joey even said it was a typo!

Good lord...

ohhhhhhh-i-get-it-now

Totally did not get that joke. I get it now though, thanks for explaining. Seriously I was nowhere near understanding that.

Edit:

For those that still don't understand (and I suspect there are a few of you), he's using "biden moment" like "senior moment".

I don't suspect that's the case. It's a legitimate gotcha and his meaning seemed pretty clear to anyone who's been following all the "Biden is senile" memes on this thread. For some reason I read "GOP" as "DNC" and responded as such, I suspect everyone else who responded did the same thing as we all know the Republican convention hasn't happened yet. Although I can see why my suggesting they hire a GOP senator to speak made people think the opposite.

I read GOP as GOP & wondered what the hell point Joey was making ... some nuanced libertarian argument.

I also understood ryzno was making a joke about Biden's supposed senility. Biden is not senile. He makes occasional gaffes & lapses in judgement, but in general he is perfectly coherent - far more so than Trump. I think he will destroy Trump in the debates. Hillary destroyed Trump in the debates, but that didn't stop Trump from squeaking to victory in the election. The timing was perfect for Trump to win (narrowly) the last election. In the same way, the timing is perfect for Biden to win this November. Moderates & independents are sick of Trump & the chaos & division he brings to the country. I anticipate that Biden will win all the swing states & possibly even a few Republican leaning states like NC, Arizona & Texas.

I think most people in the US, including some leading Republicans, see Biden as a "caretaker President", someone who will take away the bitter taste of the Trump era & allow the possibility of some kind of consensus building in US politics.

So most people are actually people who tend to forget that the Demopublicans can't work together for even a day.

I wasn't making any argument, I was commenting on how poor the speaker lineup is for the GOP convention. I mistyped for whatever reason, probably a song or something on in the background and I typed "was" instead of "is".

I mean the lineup is pretty terrible. Besides all the congresspeople, it's also featuring that smirking kid and that Missouri couple that doesn't know jack about firearm safety or firearm laws. All it's missing it Ted Nugent.

Ok. So everybody is wrong. The mistype was "was" instead of "is", rather than GOP instead of DNC.

I have no idea what the line up is for the GOP convention, but realistically speaking who could the GOP put up there who is pro-Trump enough to be acceptable to Trump ... & who isn't a sycophant or an idiot? There's no way back from this until the GOP dumps Trump & there will be some hard tines ahead for the GOP after that happens.

A variety of Republicans offer their opinions on the way forward:

Nick Sandmann will be there to serve as proof the media is against conservatives, and the Missouri couple will be touting something about 2A & how the do-nothing Democrats want to keep people from protecting their property. Or so I'm guessing.

What a rorschach test. I assumed you meant "is" in the first place. I think.

I'm expecting the GOP convention to be a massive group cry session. Such victims.

Anti-corruption and Pro-2A is the exact opposite of Trump. Some of her stances on things make sense, but supporting Trump goes against things she says she supposedly stands for, so really she's probably just another blowhard politician...like all the other politicians out there.

Also, why can't she spell Maryland correctly? Her Twitter says Mary Land.
