You can leave it as OwensRacing if you want, it's his idea originally. Or you can put ASRA if you want. Either way, I'm excited to see who's name gets listed on the Triple Crown! Quite prestigious! :)

Welcome Gman07, you've been added to the list. We almost have enough to make a full grid already, now we just need a network to host the practice races on! :)

Yep, we've got 16 now so we should have at least a full grid. We are accepting as many people that want to register though, we will use the week of Qualifying to determine who makes it into the big race on the 22nd. We are discussing way to still provide racing for those who don't qualify in the top 14 for the big race. One possibility is have an Indy Lights race the day before the 500, maybe a 100 lapper or something. But this will depend on how many people register. We want everybody to have a shot at some fun racing at the original "Speedway" though. 👍

Your going to have to MAKE SURE each quali room is open lobby because the grip diff between open and private makes a significant time diff. Even on an oval....

I suggest having no power limit/ weight limit since everybody's using the same car. It then favors those who can take car of their car with engine rebuild, chasis refurbish, etc.

Hard to say without being able to see what lap times are with online physics, but I'm expecting about 2-2.5 hours. With offline physics my lap times are a little under 40 seconds which is pretty much the exact lap times the real cars run. The real race takes about 2.5 hours. Before figuring in pitstops my calculations for our race is 2.2 hours. We're figuring approx 4 pitstops will be necessary for the race and those will add a few minutes so we should be right around 2.5 hours or a little under.

My shoulders are healthy and after about 40-50 laps of practice they start getting sore, so I'm afraid your bum shoulder might not fare too well. :(
The race is almost 3 weeks away though, so hopefully you'll have plenty of time to rehab? :)

Brandon

That's what I was afraid of, after 18 months my rehab has gone as far as it's going to go. Surgery is an option now but the bottom line is I'll have to pass on this which is a shame , I would have loved to have tried this.

Good luck everyone, I'll try to get in to the room to watch the race, it should be amazing.

I think we're planning on running all practice sessions, qualifying sessions and races in private lobbies. For qualifying especially, Owens and I will both be very busy organizing who goes out on track for their qualifying session and what order they will go, as well as recording lap times and figuring averages. If we do this in a public room we will spend most of our time booting out the Randoms that decide to show up and drive backwards on the track. As long as all sessions and races are run in the same style of lobby then the lap times will be consistent.

Brandon

Can i ask, will any of the qualifying sessions be European time friendly?

Good point, we will be sure to accommodate that. My work schedule probably wouldn't allow me to hold an earlier session for the European time zone but I believe Owens schedule through the week might be more flexible. We may end up having a day that holds to qualifying sessions, one earlier for the European crowd and one later for the North American crowd.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. 👍

Full damage, no penalties, no caution flags, 1 parade lap, end of race timer will be set to 180 seconds.

Will there be a "protest period" afterwards where if during the race somebody hit me or impedes me (lets say a lapped car is racing me hard) will I be able to protest....?

Rich, you bring up a good point, albeit a tricky one. I'm discussing with Owens how we will handle this, but here are my thoughts:

This isn't really a "league" and we won't be awarding any Championship points so we wouldn't be able to impose much of a penalty. The top 3 finishers do receive an award (tbd) so if one of those drivers are found to be guilty of unsavory driving then we would revoke the award and it would be given to the next highest finisher.

Also, I don't know that GT5 will save the whole replay of a 200 lap race so I'm not sure we would have any way to review or verify a protest. Obviously we expect everybody to be on their best behavior when on track and if many complaints are received about a driver they will get a warning and possibly be banned from future ASRA events.

A possible solution: since we plan on doing many races of this nature in the future, perhaps we could award points that would go towards an ASRA Reputation System and we could deduct points for bad driving or multiple complaints. After a few races everyone would have a solid idea of who the best drivers are based on their Reputation Points. We could award points for every finishing position and then divide it by the total number of ASRA events participated in. So say a driver participates in 3 races and earns 25pts, 20pts and 15pts - that driver would have 20 ASRA Rep Points.

Does that make any sense, or sound like a good idea?

Man. I am excited for this race!!!! We just need our PSN so we can start testing strategies. . . Curious how beneficial that draft will be relative to mpg. ;)

Put me down as interested in taking part in this race. :)

Sounds like great fun...even if ya don't make the field.

Sadly for me, I've only got crappy verizon DSL...so it's VERY possible that I could be 'POOF' - offline.

On softs it would be a huge diff, on HARDS I'm not so sure everybody will stay together more than a couple laps, its very skid dish in the private lounge.

We haven't been able to test the tires online yet, so the required compound might very well change. With offline physics I feel virtually no difference between the softs and hards but I know that will probably change online. I think we want to try to keep the field fairly close, so if soft tires are better for that we may switch to those.

Brandon

I got the chance to run tire testing before psn went down. While the Hards do get greasy at the end of their life. They're manageable. They also keep the driver on his toes, with the simplicity of an oval. I think anything less then hard racing tires will be too easy and boring if you will.

Keep it at hards. It's not that fun if you're not able to get away from anyone in the race, and it will show who can drive the oval properly, instead of sticking behind the guy in front.:grumpy:

Anyone been doing any practice off-line?
I know its a bit different when its online but just to get some idea of what lap times i need to get too.
I'm doing 38.5xx's mainly. Getting the odd 38.4xx now and again.

I've not entered this event but I'm thinking about it.

I could do 38.7/38.8 laps yesterday no problem with just increasing gears to 261 MPH and no other changes.

Today I tried again and I can't get lower than 39.1 !! No difference in settings at all.

I tried a 50 lap practice race and ran out of fuel near the end of the back straight on lap 37. This was going to be my in lap anyway. My worst (Hard) tyre at that point was the right rear which was at 50%. The AI unlapped itself twice during this stop.

The lead AI car pitted two laps after me, none of the other cars pitted at all. That must have been the slipstream at work.

Wouldnt mind being the safety/pace car for this, I've got a yellow Z06 ready if the need be.
