"Peaks In" Man, this place is empty. I guess I'll wait for a bit till everyone starts coming back. Meantime, The GTPJGTC looks troubled and FGT has gone silent. "Grabs a Coke from the cooler"

Re: GTPJGTC and FGT
Yeah, I get what you mean.:nervous: One of the things thats happened in the GTPJGTC is that eatsviper4lunch hasn't logged onto GTPlanet in quite a while so that has me wondering what happened with him. I hope he's OK.

And the thing about FGT is you need to complete either all of the game and/or you have to win the FGT car in a certain series. But it probably takes a good deal of skill and luck to accomplish. And I dunno how many GTP members have the FGT car in their garage. If so, either they don't know about the series, or they do, but choose not to enter. I've been by the FGT topics time and again and I thought they looked interesting. Too bad I don't have that car in my garage.:indiff:

And ERacer, that was an interestiong article you posted in this thread a while ago. Makes me wonder if the same thing happens with a pro gamer from Japan.:)

Hey Neil, how goes it with the wife and the new household.?You think you have the capabilities to host a smaller-scaled UKGTP in your garage anytime soon?:D

Edit: My bad... Asked a silly question and found the answer myself...

Is there a way to delete your own post?
There is no way you can delete you own post.

Excellent idea mate!

Just two small problems with that idea......
1 I'd need to pipe electric to the garage.
2 I'd need a garage.

Hey Neil, how goes it with the wife and the new household.?

All's well at the Casa del Harland, except that the Mrs is sleeping very light at the moment and is complaining about my snoring.

She went out and bought me this gismo that I strap onto my arm, and it listens for snoring sounds. When it hears 3 in a certain time, it bloody well electrocutes me!:scared:
Just a little jolt, for 5 seconds. Very like a TENS machine, or one of those muscle tone machines (that only work properly on those of us that are already the right weight and have good muscle tone already, lucky gits!:grumpy:)
But it's designed to just wake you up a little, so you stop snoring. BUT if it gets triggered 15 times in under 60 mins, it gives you a slightly stronger, different wave pattern jolt, and this one lasts for 25 seconds! :ill:

That one makes you move and roll over, and so re-sets your sleep pattern.

Either, I had set it too strong myself, or the wife got up in the night for a Pibroch ( Let's see if there's another 80's prog-rock fan out there?) and turned it up on me for a laugh....

But I feel like I hardly slept last night, so I'm off early to bed!
(Ha early? I hear you say?, well it is for me:sly:)

Night all,
Neil

Well Ferrari fans, on the way home from my vacation in Italy, I had the distinct pleasure of driving back via a little town called Maranello :D

While I didn't (and probably couldn't) visit the factory itself (I had another 6 hours of driving ahead of me, so in a bit of a rush), I did visit the Ferrari Museum down the road. The first floor is dedicated to Formula 1, with cars ranging from the 1951 F1 car with 165bhp, through Niki Lauda and Alain Prost's cars, through to the 2002 and 2004 championship-winning babies. F1 engines from the past 20 years were scattered throughout, along with several F1 trophies on display.

Upstairs was a range of Ferraris from the Dino through the 308 GTS, to an F50 and an Enzo. They also had marketing material from over 50 years of racing.

Just thought I'd share that with you lot. My pictures didn't come out terribly well for some reason (must be the special lighting designed to force you into buying the official merchandise ;) ), but I'm happy to post a couple if anyone is interested.

Later all 👍

Question: Was the trip back home from the vacation before or after the Italian Grand Prix in Monza? Also, were you in attendance at said race?:sly: If you're a Ferrari fan, my sympathies are with you after what I saw at the race seeing the McLarens go 1-2. It's sort of like going to a home football game and watching your team lose to it's main rival.:guilty:

Oh yeah, I believe I remember that members of the McLaren are scheduled to appear at a hearing later on today(the 13th)regarding [SEARCH]Stepneygate[/SEARCH]. If they get implicated and are disqualified, it'll put a major damper on this years F1 season no matter who takes the drivers and constructors titles.

It was on the Saturday of qualifying, and unfortunately I did not attend the race (the price of GP tickets in Europe is stupidly high, and after spending a lot of money on my vacation I decided to miss it this year). So basically I drove past Milan/Monza a couple hours after the qualy :(

I'm a big fan of the Ferrari brand and heritage, but in F1 my loyalties tend more toward drivers rather than teams. I was (and still am) an enormous Schumacher fan, but since he left I found myself floundering a little for who to support. Kimi's good but never seems able to make it happen, Massa's come a long way but just doesn't inspire me, and Alonso is a bit too cocky for my liking. Then Hamilton came along... :) (I know, I know, they'll strip me of my Ferrari t-shirt :P ) There are few other drivers in the mid-pack teams I like, but when it comes to the championship, I'd like to see Lewis take it in his debut season 👍 That kid's got chops

I was the very greatful recipient of a very generous wedding gift, from a very good friend.

An LG 26" HD-ready LCD TV/monitor!

Which is now in pride of place on my work/play station desk.

The Weekly Race Series (WRS) is running a tribute race this week honoring rally racing's greatest; Colin McRae. I'm going to take part in this and thought I'd simply let you all know of this tribute race.

Hey guysII on Friday moments after it's rellease I was able to set up a Japanese PS3 account and download GT5 Prologue. Only 1 course,Suzuka and 5 cars but there are 16 cars in the grid and cockpit view. The HD graphics are great.I will report in more detail when I am at a computer ,right now I am using thePS3 browser which is very slow without a keyboard.

Edit: Just went and bought a keyboard for the PS3 so I can type faster, anyway if any of you have a PS3 there are instructions here at GTP showing how to setup a Japanese PS3 account, takes about 40 minutes because everything is in Japanese but it's sure worth it to get any demos or games released in Japan but not in Europe and N.America

Anyway although small GT5 Prologue is quite nice, there's a few short moviie races in it that shows Daytona Speedway and Fuji, but the coolest thing is the in-cockpit view, you have a rear view and side mirror and the slightest wheel input moves your onscreen wheel. The 16 car grid is also great, you always start in 8th. place and it's only a 2 lap race for each of the few cars you have. There are several cars that are locked but I can't figure out how to unlock them (my Japanese is a bit rusty) The physics seem much more advanced then GT4, sort of like going from GT3 to GT4 and of course the HD quality is fantastic, also the engine notes are much refined.

Right now I am using the PS3 browser which is very slow without a keyboard.
I wonder if you are having to use the remote to type the words you want. And how fast is the browser in comparison to your computer?

I did use the remote for just a few posts but it's very slow so I got a cheap keyboard otherwise just this message would take 30 minutes. The browser isn't as fast as a PC but worksl fine , faster then dial-up used to be, but that's not saying much is it?

That has to be difficult. I use my keyboard for typing and remote for playing, but when one is used for the other unit's purpose, It is very akward and slow

For the time being, I guess not.

Neil

Comfortably numb is my favorite place to be!! It's an art form to acheive but after many years of practice I visit most every day. You're up awfully late Neil, practicing for the middle of the night bottle?

Oct. 30: Hey Neil I hear the Postman coming :):):)

Hello,

I'm back to say, well, that I'm back and to apologize for the long silence. I recently went through a perfect storm of a personal nature. I had to leave GT for a brief while as I regrouped and refocused on the change in my life and the ensuing new priorities which consumed all my time and energy. I'm not too proud to admit that it left me drained and depressed. I didn't care to put on my helmet and jump into my cockpit. The storm has, I think, a silver lining; the residual effects have made me stronger and more resolute.

So, I'm very sorry I was silent for so long. It looks like I missed a few great races. But, I'm back and ready to get back on track. Hope to see you all there. 👍

ERacer

Good to see ya back ER, several regulars, myself included took a sabatical for several months for assorted reasons, mine was a car accident which left my left arm and hand useless for 9 weeks and I'm left handed, JR got into a gang fight it seems and at his mature age the only fight he should be having is a fight in his head over holding it or wearing Depends:) It's nice to see us all come back to the fold where we are appreciated for what we are, old guys with nothing better to do. Although Neil got married, plus got his wife pregnant and never missed a day here at GTP...Now that's dedication. If nothing else Neil you'll be remembered for that :):)

EDIT: Neil and any other bike guys what do you think of a 1978 Honda CB750F. My brother-in-law and I just bought one in MINT condition ( no dents, scratches torn seat or pitted chrome) with 15,000 original miles for two grand. A great cafe bike and the DOC really makes this bike. Don't know exactly what we're gonna do with it but at it's age and mileage it was a good deal, it's already bottomed out on price years ago so it should do nothing but appreciate.

Thanks for the kind words, Andy. Very good to see you back too. I guess weekend warriors like us suffer our bumps and bruises, but it's not long before we're back behind the wheel racing. 👍 Congrats on finding that bike!

Phil

Anyone planning on ordering GT5P from Japan for the Dec 13th release date? I'm surely going to either at Play Asia or one of the others, it's about $50.00 plus shipping.
