The Metal ThreadMusic

Never understood why they didn't turn the Big 4 into the Big 5...

Because Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax were the only thrash bands to ever make it into the mainstream in their prime. That doesn't make the the 4 best, just the 4 most successful, by a fairly wide margin.

Dave Mustaine always argued that Exodus should be included, but they never got as big. They were just the pioneers.

Thrash fans regardless still know who they are. I see people with Exodus shirts on all the time.

What really angers me are people who wear band shirts who don't even listen to their music...

Finally found some old pictures of one of the first few lineups of my old band playing on stage. I'll post them here soon, this was in 2008, roughly about a year, year 1/2 after we started up. I looked really really young hahahaha. Had a few Marshall half stacks behind us, single bass drums (upgraded double bass a year later) and a bunch more amps we didn't bother pulling out because we didn't need them in such a small venue plus we had an overhead PA so it wasn't a big deal.

I know Anthrax, Exodus and MW, not the other two, but sounds like it's gonna be a sick show. 👍 Lucky!

Ended up missing that show because I got hurt during the Clutch show. Its now been 4 weeks and 2 days and my arm is still sore from Orange Goblin/Clutch, I may go see a doctor if it doesn't continue healing (its been slow progress). Which has limited weight lifting immensely which sucks.

As for thrash, Exodus, Testament and Overkill will IMO forever be the better of the early US thrash bands.

As for Metal in general... Here's what I've been listening to recently...

Sludge

Thrash/Black

Really getting a lot out of my system today.

Dave Lombardo from Slayer performing Raining Blood with a Mariachi band.

Definitely a must watch.

And them doing Rainbow in the Dark by Dio.

Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden

Many more including Crazy Train, Ace of Spades, Breaking the Law etc.

Also this guy covers Fade to Black on an electric violin.

I listen to hardcore most of the times, like stick to your guns, terror, trapped under ice but i never stopped listening to old heavy metal, maiden, helloween, gun's, motley crue, skid row. I like those bands since i am 5

I don't think this warrants it's own thread, so posting this here:

http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/05/08/uk-usa-singer-arrest-idUKBRE94701120130508

(Reuters) - Tim Lambesis, lead singer for the heavy metal band As I Lay Dying, was arrested in California on Tuesday on charges that he sought the help of an undercover detective to have his estranged wife killed, police said.

Lambesis was taken into custody in Oceanside, near San Diego, said San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell.

Police had previously learned Lambesis was looking for someone to carry out the killing, Caldwell said.

"The information came to us late last week. We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy," she said.

Caldwell said the ongoing investigation prevented her from disclosing any details about why Lambesis might have wanted to have his wife killed or how police first learned about what they described as his murder plan.

Lambesis' wife, Meggan, filed papers in San Diego Superior Court in September 2012 seeking a dissolution of marriage, according to an online court database.

A representative for the As I Lay Dying's record label, Metal Blade, could not immediately be reached for comment and it was unclear if Lambesis had an attorney. No one answered the door at the singer's home in Del Mar, 20 miles north of San Diego, and neighbours declined to talk about him.

Crazy news, especially when you consider that As I Lay Dying is supposedly a "Christian" band. Really, the only modern metalcore band that I actually like more than a few songs from.

Tim has pleaded not guilty and has stated that some scum bag set him up. Exact words.

I like Huntress. I like to watch them, I mean. Because boobs.

If they made more music videos and were an instrumental band, they'd be perfect.

Whatever, I don't like metalcore, it sucks IMO. & I could care less about "As I lay crying".

Austrian Death Machine on the other hand...

Also some metal from my home country.. :D

Dave Mustaine in Metallica. Rare to see a photo of this clarity that early and ESPECIALLY still with Metallica.

Can't say I have. I'll have to look them up sometime.

Listening to this ATM. More of that really unknown/underrated stuff I love!

I don't get why everyone loves Jill Janus so much. She is way to thin and her arms look anorexic. I actually like her vocals.. I saw them live as a opening act for 3 Inches of Blood. They were alright, it was a in a small bar and their act was in between a punk band called 'Hookers' and 3 Inches of Blood both were awesome with a rowdy crowd and I was in the middle of it all. I got bored during the Huntress set, everyone was standing around so I got some fresh air.

Hookers are a real fun band though, I met some guys who are friends with one of the members and we were all drinking in the back corner. Mega fun, lots of chaotic moshing around and way to many beers.

They are pretty new (2000's-2012 etc) and they sound like a lot of the late '80s heavy metal with a hint of modernness. I don't care for newer bands so they have to be really good if I know of them.

The songs that got me into them were called "Metal is Forever" and "Strike".

I shall look those up. 👍

I'm listening to this right now, pretty much early metal, not the same "Death" that invented Death metal, this is from '74!

Just found out this band, dont know if anyone here has heard of them? Called Reapter. They sound IDENTICAL to Metallica. Look up some of their other stuff, its almost as if it is Metallica

Wow, lol. It's obvious where they got their inspiration at least. Too bad it's late Metallica and not RTL metallica.

Been listening to a lot of Hammerfall lately. Pretty good.

About the Reapter stuff it had a Metallica type of distortion to the guitars and the singer was pretty similar but the tone was slightly off in that respect. The layout of the song wasn't really Metallica-ish to me though.

Found another new band that I love called Torche. New to me, I mean.

Also, a song called Scorched Earth Policy.

And a band called Scorched Earth Policy.

^ Torche are awesome, very different. They've been super active for the past two years and I saw them open for Corrosion of Conformity. They are much heavier live then one might think.

Warbeast is kind of cool as well, a product of Phil Anselmo's Housecore Record's and hes been advertising the hell out of them. Well I shouldn't say advertising but everywhere he goes they seem to follow. Saw them open for Down.

Very, very old photo of very very early Metallica. McGovney, Mustaine, Ulrich and Hetfield.
