Burnout

Here's a picture I took recently.. I wish the sky hadn't been so overexposed. :guilty:
The overexposed sky is PERFECT for this shot for some reason. The high contrast and the blurred backdrop is just awesome

It's always difficult to get the light balance right in photos with backlight.
Either that or, in order to get the background with less light, you would have to sacrifice the flowers; they would come out too dark instead.

I agree with emad, though. I think it looks nice.

Goomba, have you tried cropping the picture, taking out a bit of the lower part? I think it would look even better. 👍

Burnout, awesome pic. As said, the over-exposed sky makes it work 10x better 👍 .

Here is my first try with a film SLR camera. Most of the images came out very out of focus. :dunce: Out of the 24 exp. roll, these are the only 3 that I liked.

Don't be too harsh, now. :scared:

Aaannnddd, here is what I took last night with my digital camera. I went out to dinner with my mom and one of her friends and we got there early so we decided to take a little stroll on the boardwalk. :D

This is Jacksonville, Florida for ya. ;)

The last one is my favorite from last night, followed by the first.

The toronto Photography meetup group and the Toronto Urban Explorers groups are both meeting this weekend. Because of the cost, I can only pick one of the 2 meetings... both will make for AWESOME photo taking opportunities.

The photography group is going to a jazz festival for some shooting and the UE group is going to the Open Doors Festival. The open doors festival is where a LOT of historic buildings in downtown open their doors and allow the public to go exploring.

I can only pick one of the 2, and I'm torn between them... the UE group meets on saturday at 9:45am so I'll have to leave pretty early... the photographers will meet at 1.

Saturday has a 40% chance of scattered showers, but the photographers are on sunday and that'll be mostly indoors (also meaning I'll be stuck on mostly ISO200 or ISO400 film for my SLR)

The jazz festival has great music and of course, it'll be with photographers. The Open Doors thing on the other hand will let me see parts of Toronto that I've never seen before and many of the members have a good background in photography but aren't necessarily there specifically to shoot.

I can only pick one and I'm having a damn hard time deciding. Any suggestions?

Excellent shot Burnout 👍

I hope it's sunny out tomorrow because I accidentally grabbed 5 rolls of iso100 rather than 200 :irked:

Silly film kids :sly:
If I were you, I would go with the UE group and shoot some of Toronto. It's not everyday they open the hidden doors up of Toronto (i'm guessing, I don't live in T.O.). Jazz festivals/music festivals come and go, but I would still hate to miss such an event; Jazz is sex to my ear drums.

Burnout, I would have to say that is my favourite picture i've yet to see from my experience hanging around in the photography thread. It's got it all; Composition, the movement of the eye, and the gradual darkness which is matched with that crazy deep blue 👍

I'm going with UE for certain now... but the jazz festival is... jazz!!

Main problem is that there's a 40% chance of rain tomorrow - that makes iso100 an even worse choice. I just hope my bro's tripod will fit into my backpack or else i'll be kinda screwed for the day

BTW, nothing wrong with film. It's superior in almost every way. The best shots I've ever taken were on film because it forced me to think before clicking. After all, each exposure costs time and money and you don't want to just waste them ;)

Not to turn anything into like a debate, but.. :sly:

1. No there isn't... I love film because of all the parts moving when you press the button, so on so fourth. Almost seems like you're more of the camera. Somewhat.
2. It's supperior in about every.. Well. It's not, actually. Not at all.
3. How does this have anything to do with it being a film camera or not? Isn't that completely upto the users, if he/she decides to "think" before shooting or not?
4. Good photos take time; the more work you put into a photo, the better it's going to come out. Again, however, this doesn't have anything to do with Film vs Digital, but rather another 'forced into thinking' type deal.

I'm thinkin' you feel the way you do because the digital camera you have is more of a P&S than an enthusiest camera.. I think if you got something like a Drebel you'd be disagreeing with yourself.

BTW, not trying to be offensive. Just providing discussion. 👍

- Just being a smartass in the above, no offense to you film photographers :D
I shoot both SLR with film and DSLR. I can see ups and downs of both fields, but i've alway been a bit of a geek so I stick to digital. I feel it provides me with more options to produce a final result, as a result of my experience in Photoshop. I still love my Pentax K1000, but I wish Digital SLRs were alot cheaper; so the average consumer could get one and get a chance to see what the're like first hand.

There is a Pentax SLR laying around somewhere.. I'll have to look for that.

Havent been to this thread in a while, I took some nice pictures while I was camping, I'll have to put them up :)

Here is one I took a while ago.

I can't imagine too much of a difference. I just have some Tiffen filter laying around I got for free from a shop when they thought they'd never sell it. Of course, used. But it works fine for what I do.

Figured I'd poke my head in here anyhow. Probably more and more stuff will be online, as I hope to get a Canon D10 from someone in the photodepartment at school before summer is out.

Anyhow, any of my good stuff goes on my DevArt acccount, which can be found in my sig.
Latest piece is one of my facvs though.

You probably want to grab some Tiffens. I think they're the best bang for your buck.

I have and have tried a variety, including Tiffen, B+W, and Promaster. Promaster was by the cheapest in terms of both quality and cost. The filter itself seemed to be made of plastic, attracted dust easily, scratched even easier. I was simply unimpressed with the make of the filter as are many people on the DPReview boards. B+W cost me a pretty penny, but when you hold the filter, all you can say is,

"Whoa. Now thats how God wanted filters to be made."

The filter seems to be tres excellente, but your going to pay for it.

Tiffen is between the two. It feels like it offers the same quality as the B+W, but not the sort of jaw-dropping aweness. And will probably be my choice in the future.
