The positives, you say?

  • 219 cars showcasing a level of detail never seen before in a videogame, each taking 6 months' worth of man hours to perfect.
  • Over 27 unique tracks with over 70 layouts, each taking 2 years' worth of man hours to perfect, including the Top Gear Test Track.
  • Handling dynamics completely unrivalled on home consoles.
  • A huge range of racing disciplines, including NASCAR, WRC, karting and F1.
  • Real-time deformation damage model.
  • Dynamic dirt accumulation on cars.
  • Dynamic weather and time of day cycles, showcasing rain, snow, humidity, air pressure and moving, volumetric clouds that cast shadows on the ground dynamically.
  • Customisation including engine and chassis overhauls, as well as the opportunity to tune engine notes.
  • Track generation tool.
  • Online track days for up to 32 players (16 players racing and 16 players spectating).
  • Head-tracking with the PlayStation Eye camera.
  • Many real-world racing drivers, including the Stig, some running driving schools in-game.
  • 18 mega-pixel Photo Mode incorporating unique locations with the ability to walk around and drive your vehicle.
  • 1080p HD replay uploads to YouTube.
  • True 1080p at 60fps.
  • Hugely in-depth "B-Spec mode" where the player takes on the role of crew chief.
  • The ability to take your vehicles round "stunt arenas".

That's just what I can recall from the top of my head right now. There's sure to be yet more incredible stuff to come. ;)

I am really glad PD spent 5 years perfecting this masterpiece

After the disappointment I still have after all the recent info, these are some of the reasons GT5 is still a first day buy for me and given that I still play Prologue with all its limitations on a regular basis after a few years, I'm sure GT5 (or at least a selection of its content) will provide me plenty of fun over the next coming years starting only about 10 days from now (still can't believe it).

Haven't played GT4 for a long while and looking out to drive along the Nürburgring, Le Sarthe, Laguna Seca and all previous real life and fantasy tracks (when included) again, only this time some of the familiar tracks with day/night and weather.
Of the new tracks I'm especially looking forward to Special Stage Route 7, Cape Ring, Madrid, Rome and ofcourse Monza.
I'm very keen to try the Course Creator and the randomly created rally-stages relying on a talking navigator.
The customization aspects too, especially the Paint-shop and bodykits, etc.
And maybe there are some other aspects I'm forgetting right now.

Now about the cars, to be honest, I'm only looking forward to the Premium cars (cockpit view being the main reason but also visual damage to a lesser degree) and below I've made a list of those I'm particularly looking out for in alphabetical order (there are more, for example most race and rallycars, including NASCAR and the ones I liked from Prologue finally able to drive on other tracks).

Funny you said that. I'm just about to watch the movie.
I have been watching the Anime series since yesterday.

Wow, only started? Pretty good series, I wish they'd have the manga up to date. Anyways, maybe in GT6 we'll see a C1 type of track (I know SSR5 is loosely based on it, but I mean a real scale version of the C1.)

Also, can't wait to see what car will become the King of the Wangan in GT5.

This is the C1 loop. Unfortunately SSR5 looks nothing like it, except, very loosely, its scenery. Tokyo R246 track also shown in the image:

SSR7 is way more similar to the Wangansen (Shuto Expressway 'B') near Yokohama than SSR5 is to the C1 loop.

Well, I know it isn't a scaled version of it. But it's easy to tell it's loosely based on it (The only reason I say it's easy is because SSR7 is based on the Wangan.) But that's the reason I hope they do add a C1 track. That'd be amazing.

I don't care how you spin it (op), GT5 is a disappointment.

As far as I'm concerned the big positive for me is, "IT BEATS HAVING TO PLAY GT5 PROLOUGE!" so it's all a big plus. Now if you would rather play something else? Than feel free to do so. :dopey:

Honestly if they would have simply updated the graphics and added an online mode to GT4 for the PS3 I would have been all over it.

Isn't that what PD just did and then some????? So what if there are some missing cars and tracks. You can't say GT4 is better 'cuz it dosen't have a lot of features we want that GT5 is giving us.

Eventhough Im a bit angry about the car list (Im just disappointed about the fact that there isn`t any suprise except the F10 and that there are only so few Maseratis, Lambos, Rufs and old race cars), Im really looking forward to this game.
Im a huge fan of street circuits like London in GT5P, so Im fine with the track list. I can`t judge the physics without playing the game, but I really liked the GT Academy time trial demo. Weather sounds nice, but I don`t think that GT5`s dynamic weather and track condition system will be good as F1 2010`s. Visual damage is pretty poor, lets hope that they got mechanical damage right.

And yeah...

McLaren MP4-12C vs Ferrari 458 Italia at TGTT... :)
Reason enough to buy this game.

I think you miss understood my meaning there. Let me try to clearify. The comment was in no way meant as a knock on GT5 if anything it was a compliment to GT4. My point was that I would gladly buy the game it all they did was update the graphics on GT4 and add an online. For that matter I would have bought it even with just better graphics.

They have given us much more and I can't wait to get behind the wheel in GT5. I am dissapointed that some of the tracks I really liked frm GT4 did not make it in but that is ok. There is plenty there to keep me busy for quite a while.

OK no one so far has mentioned this BIG NEGATIVE which can cost u a lot of money.

This gt5 will make your ps3 run to its max! so guess what? What happens if i want to do the 24 hour race?

How will my ps3 survive?

I have played gt5p for like 5 hours straight b4 and around my ps3, i feel a lot of heat.

Anyone with suggestions?

According to this article, we most likely will be able to save during endurance races.

While I have not experimented that much with the PS3 most electronic devices reach thier operating tempature pretty quickly when in use and after a short while most are as hot as they are going to get. In most cases the heating up and cooling down is more likely to cause a problem than the constantly warm temp.

Again I have not paid much attention to the PS3 and this is more of a general statement. It is not uncommon for an electronic device which runs 24/7 to live more hours before failure than one that goes through the on/off cycle several times a day. Especially if the on time is often short.

Edit: This is not to say that you should leave your PS3 on all the time but in most cases if you have it on and plan to use it again in 20 minutes it is better to just leave it on rather than letting it cool down and heat up again in such a short period of time.

I must admit when I saw the track list and to a degree the car list I was a little disapointed.

Then I thought, You fool GT5P kept you going for over 12 months and that only had 70 odd cars and a quater of the tracks, no licences, no missions, no weather, no day/night, no Nordscheife etc.......

I hav'nt even got into racing with you guys (a little of the captain slow if I'm honest :guilty:) I like the 450pp challenges and rank in the top 100 most of the time but I don't think I can live with you lot in the 750PP though.:nervous: Theres something I have to look forward to. A**e handed to me on a plate I think. :)

It will be amazing to finally put THE disk in the PS3, after all thats why Sony invented the PS3 isn't it? :dopey: Its the only reason I own one.:)

cant wait for the 10 gig download the anticipation gonna make me go nuts its gonna be a good thanksgiving!

Thats it, I'm officialy hiding here for the next 9 days, the level of idiocy out there in GTPlanet has gone past "village idiot" level and is rapidly aproaching "I have one brain cell" and please don't let any of them wander in here......what was the PS3 will melt all about? ..... I'm off to lie down and mutter to myself about all the new members cloging up my beloved GTP with shouts of "down with Kaz"

Keep it posertive guys, games finaly about to land and it's going to be great, simples.

+1:tup:

This. Quality people not quantity. I'd rather have 200+ exceptionally detailed car renderings than 1000+ average ones. Also it's not as if the standard ones will be *that* bad anyway.

The rest of the game features will make for the variety. The cars will come but quality takes a bit of time.

Looking forward myself to driving round the 'Ring in a Ferrari. And for the first time ever a Ferrari around the Rome circuit. Just having some Ferrari's in a full GT for the first time in the series is fantastic!

Taking part in 16 player races is also going be absolutely fantastic.... also be interesting to see what community features they have built into the game - and what options are available for creating races etc for online games....
