I would buy the new PSP just for GT mobile, I have a PSP so I would just keep that for playing my older games and get the new one just for GT :)

Yeah.. GO.. on teh GO media ;)

But they could always go full MAC name with PSiP .. haha

Just call it the Pii

To me Go! just sounds kinda lame and gimmicy, Its doesnt really sound like something which goes with Sony or Playstation branding.

Robin.

Hey guys.
Since its rumored to have PHONE function. You think it will work with AT&T or as pay by card subscribtion? Currently I won the AT&T GO phone (OR whatever the name is) I buy a card with minutes and use it like that. I hope the PSP GO will have same thing. I would like to use it as a phone, But I do not want to pay monthly fee, I just want to use the cards instead.

I doubt it will have phone at all. Sony Computer Entertainment is not tied to Sony Ericsson, and Ericsson has not been playing nice with Sony's overall synergy plans. If they have given in then it hasn't been mentioned.

If they do add phone I doubt that it will be an AT&T exclusive (but doesn't rule out a multi-provider phone) as Apple would not like having a direct competitor on the same system.

Also, adding phone will make it prohibitively expensive. Don't forget the iPhone originally ran at almost $600. They also would eliminate a potential consumer base as some people won't buy it until their current contract is up.

I honestly believe the phone is the last thing they will do.

If they do I have no clue about the pre-paid thing. Can you get the iPhone with that? Even if not then they could either have a non-phone version or you can get an unlocked phone.

They can have two models just like iPod touch and iPhone.. same thing with PSP GO and GO Phone.

That would be stupid too; why not just stick with the voice-messaging (ala' Skype or MSN Messenger), just put it on the other networks; like what the in-car hub's do in newer Chrysler vehicles. Plus, at least that way it remains a free service.

3.8in same resolution, Micro MS not MS Pro.

Its not a replacement or enhancement but if the price is right it will sell. Cell Phone tethering sounds good via blu tooth.

It seems like the stepping stones for PSP 2. Thats what I'm waiting for.

Looks like my expenditure plans will have to be altered. :)
This seems really good, I know its no major update, so that should mean a significant price drop, and the fact that its small means it'll be handier to carry around. Was I the only one who didnt like the PSP because it was a little big? And if the rumors are true about GT Mobile as a launch title and handy mobile phone and PS3 integration well this is starting to look like a must buy if its around €150-€180, much more and my wallet probably would say no. :indif:

Looking at that image, between the analogue stick and start/select, doesn't that look like a microphone hole?

Also something I am really hoping to be included that is unannounced is divx support. That would seal the deal for me.

So, with the new micro slot this is obviously not intended to make people give up their older PSP's, but it seems like they did everything possible to make it pricey.

Its not a replacement.
Still, it could be a sticking point for someone trying to decide between the Go and the 3000. I know that would be for me.

I'll buy it.

By the way
Whats biggest memory for MICRO card for this PSP GO? I bet after another half a year after release, PSP GO might have 32 gigs and so forth.

Also will it be more powerful over PSP3000?

Sure bit smaller screen, no thumb sticks, yeah looks more like MIC, also wont be comfortable to put your finger that deep to play some game. But I like it, very pocket design friendly, smaller and for the GO for Music and quality games, also movies. I like it.

M2 (card psp go uses) is definitely for sale up to 8gb, but I think Sandisk has released a 16gb one recently.

I am pretty sure I will end up with one. Adds two things that appeal to me.

1. Smaller - I have a PSP Phat and it is just too big to carry around
2. Inbuilt memory + Bluetooth - Might even tempt me to ditch buying another Ipod Nano. I use one at the moment instead of cd's for my car stereo and connecting the psp go via bluetooth would be perfect. Been waiting for a product that can let me finally completely abandon apple.

Also very much hoping for DivX support. That would seal the deal for me.

We don't know about its processing power yet. Maybe at E3.

Interesting to see its finally been leaked! Heres another pic. Doest look all that bad, its like the change Gameboy went through from the Advance to the SP.

Its also so clearly inspired by the Sony Mylo...

As for that PSP Go boxshot on the previous page, I certainly hope this doesnt mean that the PS3 slim is real! Either that or some guy is printing leaked images on boxes just to create a fuss.

The PSP GO will be a model available in addition to the PSP 3000, in essence creating a 'budget' version, I hope it doesnt mean less features though.

As for the memory slot, if its not Memory Stick Duo im going to be really annoyed. Firstly because the device is not so small that it need's M2 and secondly everyone who has bought many Duo card's for their old PSP's and other devices and wont be able to use them! That and M2 is very expensive.

I know I read somewhere that the PSP Go is meant to be a budget version of the PSP but has any official source said that it is going to be cheaper than the 3000? You would expect it should be in order to push people towards digital content but the 16gb drive has me thinking it would be an excuse to bump the price over the psp 3000.

The screen is smaller, the controls are in a worse location and the analogue stick appears to be in a worse position too. And it's a lot uglier than the original which was a beautiful machine. Brilliant.

It may prove to be a machine that works like a dream and has brilliant features, but first impressions are dissapointing to me. But then again I've never really liked many handhelds, none of them feel even slightly comfortable to hold to me.

I kinda agree but its the reality in todays world where things have to be smaller rather than ergonomic. The Gameboy Advance was the first to do the comfortable 'buttons on either side of the screen' thing and then the PSP design followed a similar idea which focused on ease of use.

Then Nintendo in my view ruined everything when they went to the SP because (like the original gameboy) its not natural to hold you hands at that kind of angle so close together and now Sony have done the same thing.

Basically I have always prefered horizontally aligned stuff to vertical stuff, especially when you have to hold it with both hands. As for the PSP Go's looks, it doesnt look too bad but I agree that the PSP's design was far more beautiful, especially the concept which was gorgeous.

SanDisk has made a 16GB M2 card, you can see it here. So with the onboard memory it's 32GB of space. Plus it does not look half bad. I'd rather download the games from the store anyways.

The thing is that not everyone wants to, or can, download games all the time, which it seems to be they are addressing by keeping the 3000 out and having UMDs still come out too..

After talking to some of my friends none seem to think it is a great move for a couple of reasons:
  • Smaller screen
  • Bluetooth adding cost
  • More expensive memory card format
  • Changing formats to not be easily accessible for people looking to switch from older PSP models.

The memory card thing will be what prevents me from ever upgrading until my 2000 dies, and even then I may buy an older model if they are still available because I do have money already put into the older format.

Add into that the fact that I have games on UMD and I will only switch to this out of pure necessity (older models no longer available). If they could find a way to convert for UMD owners that would be awesome, but I don't see that happening. I am not buying Patapon, Twisted Metal, Worms 2, or Star Wars Battlefront 2 again for $20+ each. Plus, my 2000 has an awesome Darth Vader image on the back.

Now, that is all just my personal thoughts. In this world where people often want the next newest thing I can see this selling, especially if they manage to target a more casual crowd. The bonus to that is that people who didn't feel the price for a PSP was worth it may find the used market to be large now.
