Well what a race. Firstly it was such a shame that Veloci got the DC in lap 1. Connection issues again hampered the start of proceedings, and even with a restart there was no guarantee that these issues would not come back, and as we were already delayed, the race continued. 15 starters, and 13 finishers wasnt as bad as last time, so a little improvement.

Anyway, Monza provided us with an awesome evening of racing from start to finish. If anyone has any moments they want recorded in the video, please let me know by Tuesday. But for now the moment belongs to the top 3. Champagne time again guys, and dont drink too much of it @jammyrex 👍:mischievous:

We're using the Esprit turbo HC '87 which isn't a V8 (That's the next car), it's a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder if I remember correctly.

You're probably right, but it does have the parabolic torque curve of a V8, and no top end power.

Here is a base tune that should hopefully get you around the track without trying to kill you too much. It is what I have onj my car right now and will change throughout the two weeks.

Suspension:
80/99
7.10/7.80
3/3
4/5
2/4
0.0/0.0
0.05/0.10

Brakes:
8/4

Transmission: (shift at ~7000 rpm)
*Set final drive to 5.500 (all the way right)
*Set max speed to 112 mph (all the way left)
*then set:
1st: 3.325
2nd: 2.368
3rd: 1.783
4th: 1.398
5th: 1.117
Final: 2.500

LSD:
15/10/19

Aero:

Ok guys... I've finally started to come down to earth after my maiden victory in the Sunday Cup! I was on the ultimate high for quite a while there!

Gosh, the feeling of pride and achievement at having battled, competed and ultimately won a race against such a top quality field full of dedicated, extremely skillful racers gives me such a buzz and real happiness!

I love racing, I love cars, and this does mean so much to me! I don't normally get to practice with you guys to quite the same extent or as much as I want to, and the mileage on my car was the lowest of the finishers (with the exception of Socal), so to do this without perhaps having as much track time as I would like is just brilliant. Obviously it helps knowing the Monza track already, enabling me to hit the ground running compared to some of the other tracks we race on. But I did feel quite confident, that I could be a dark horse for a podium position, but to get a win as my first podium is incredible!

I don't expect to repeat this performance at other tracks we go to that I don't know, but to take ONE win in this series of high quality racers is one I will take gladly and cherish right now!

A big shout out must go to Ade, who puts so much effort into running this series, and bringing such a helpful, friendly and funny bunch of guys together... Makes me really proud and honored to be involved.

OK, I should go on to say something about the race...

I qualified in a solid 4th position, and got a good getaway to put my car into 2nd position after the first chicane. Had a nice battle with Soka over the first couple of laps, with a bit of passing and re-passing, but all good, close racing. Then additional pressure came from behind from the ever competitive Captain D and Theewar... I made a decisive move on lap 4 to pass Soka... Then Captain D was my main adversary over the next few laps, with some good, close and fair racing. Then, Theewar and Weescotsman get into the mix and the pressure is intense! But, on lap 8 is where I managed make a break for it, to get the gap to the pack that I was looking for in order to break the tow...

So, I got the gap, and the guys behind are battling amongst themselves!

Then I notice that Theewar is in 2nd place and for many laps before the pitstop the gap shortened, then increased having stuck a few decent laps in the 2:05's, and I had a reasonably healthy (but by no means secure) lead of about 6 seconds...

Then we have the pitstop, Lap 21... Mine is going smoothly (for a change, joy of Joys I actually get to choose my tyres this time!) , but then, Oh No!! I get held up by weescotsman coming into his pit box, my car spluttering as it comes to a near halt. As we exit the pits, Theewar looks to have halved the gap from when we entered the pits!!

Distracted by this, I miss my braking point into the first corner and slam into the wall, enabling theewar to get within a second!

But, I managed to hold my nerve, peg the gap and then extend it bit by bit! And when lap 28 comes around, I'm taking things really carefully, trying to stay off the kerbs and bring the car home safely as I lap the last position driver before the line!

Yes!!! I cross the line in joy and amazement that I manage to take this win after all the pressure I had!

Thanks guys, what a race, so happy to get my name as a winner of a Sunday Cup event!!! :-)

First congratulations to Jammy and the podium! Fantastic to hold that speed!
My experiences of racing at Monza are lonely laps on endless straights, losing seconds after seconds and by the time I reach the finishing line you other guys already done with the showers and sharing champagne with the cheering fans and groupies…
This time it was different! This time I could hold pace, do efforts to pull away and make a gap or close a gap. I had good fights all through the race! Some fights were going on with a distance – I had a gap to Ade, who chased me for a couple of laps and I knew he was I a little bit faster than me and other fights were high intensive when a group of racers waiting for the others to make advantage of a tiny mistake. Just love it!
And the fact that Ade and I had company on many laps was just brilliant, because my father watched the race via Twitch!
One factor to my personal success was a mistake on my side. Two weeks ago I set up the specs for the car and thanks to Warren – thanks man! – I had a suspension set up to work on. Here I did the mistake, I powered the car to 157 bhp. So all through the practice sessions I was 10 bhp short. Just by accident last night I checked the regulations for the race and got noticed about my mistake.
Soon it’s time to park Europa and get busy Down Under, but first I will sip on this race for a while. :)

Congrats!👍 to Jammy for the win and to the rest on the podium for their performance, especially to weescotman who timed such a perfect run to the finish line to take 3rd place! I managed on my part to take pole for the race, but was disappointed that Veloci couldn't get a good connection. The race started and I found myself a bit nervous as I was looking in the mirrors that Jammy had the pace right away. My fears came to life as he made his move on the inside on the first chicane. I tried to make our lives easier by lifting from the throttle to avoid any incident and in order to give us a chance to battle it out, but noticed that I had lifted my foot too much. Cpt D was already behind me and with enough pace to pass me before reaching the first right hander. At that time I thought I couldn't do anything about it but to watch him go through and try to pick it up on the next corners. And then.. nightmare struck. Theewar who was behind Cpt D, decided to make a move on the inside on the same right hander with me already committed to the corner. I wasn't aware of theewar's exact position at the time and the only thing that gave me the impression of his whereabouts was the feeling of my right rear wheel loosing it completely! I was in the sand before a second went by. I don't know whether it's a race incident or causing a collision, this is something for the race officials to decide. And I wasn't fazed at all because I was determined to put in a few good laps for race day sake.
So I gathered my pieces, found myself alone in the map way down to 14th, and pressed the pedal way down to the metal.
After a couple of laps though, another incident. On the run down to parabolica I saw Canary trying to get back on track after what seemed to be a wide run entering the corner. I decided not to change my line as I was on a flyer, but unfortunately our paths met. I think Canary tried to avoid the collision at the last moment and changed direction, but I did too to the same direction he had chosen.:banghead: I crashed into the back of his car and came to a near stop. It took me a while to digest it and couldn't get my car going again because I was pressing the throttle so hard, that the back end of my car couldn't find traction. It was like I wanted to start doing donuts or something. Anyway..

The fortunate thing about my race was that I had the chance to race with every single person on the grid, with the exception of Ade, whose car was looking in the opposite direction when I passed by. There were some great battles going on along the track and I thoroughly enjoyed the close racing, even a bump or two. I can't wait to try the next car for the next edition of the Sunday Cup!

Sounds like we all had an 'Excellent Adventure' coupled with a 'Bogus Journey' in equal measure!

Well done 'Gelatenous Fruit Preserve Dinosaur Lord'!

What's next? Oh yeah! The 2nd of 3 beautiful heritage soaked Lotus mid-engined race inspired poised sports/super cars, replaced by PD's arse marbles interpretation of how MRs handle.

Throw in the fact that we're now heading to a mental Toohey's drinking ochers idea of a track, that is festooned with downhill, high speed and off camber corners and straights ready to sting you like an angry platypus!

Saying this, I haven't driven it yet so.....tell me otherwise you top boys already locking it down.

But I do expect over accentuated off throttle rotation off the bat, that, I personally will have to tune the hell out of for confidence.
Sure a couple of races ago one of the newer lads asked about ballast.

Myself.....I CAN'T BL**DY WAIT!

Nice write up, I enjoy reading other people's views on the race!

I must say thanks for giving me room when I made my move at the chicane, and that had been the case over the first four laps when moves were made, they were clean :)

I was sorry to see that you had spun, but what an awesome drive thatvyou put in to storm back through the field!

OK racers, the results are in. Took a bit longer than usual as there were some things that needed looking at. All done now though.

SokaGT leaving the track. Looked at this one, and it comes down to a racing incident. Early in the race the front pack were very tight. Lots of swapping places going on. Jammy got past Soka through the second chicane, and Capt Gary also had the room to pass. Going into Lesmo 1 Theewar had the racing line, although Soka was slightly ahead, but taking a wider line. As Soka tried to make the turn, he came in front of Theewar, and there was a slight glance to the left front of Theewar, which disturbed Sokas car. The result was a trip to the sand for Soka. No one was to blame here, so it goes down to a racing incident.

Awesome racing all round though. After struggling in some of the practice sessions, I qualified 9th on he grid. Great start to the race with everyone making turn 1. as the next few laps progressed, I was caught up in some super close racing with Cobani and GC Gary. A little later on Goodwolf joined the party, and it was real close for several laps. Then disaster struck, as I became another victim to the Lesmo. Slight miss judgement sent me into the wall, and I rejoined well down the field. The next chapter of my race was spent catching back up, and I spent several laps hunting down Rosen. Later on Sholesy joined us, and on the last lap, I was surprised to see GC Gary, who had run a flawless race up until that point. Cracking night, and cracking racers.

The DCs again were unfortunate, but DC points have been awarded.

Now for the results.

Now its time to change the ride again. Esprit time is here guys. I am planning on the first runs on Thursday evening, before the first official practices this weekend.

The official Lotus facebook page gave us another great race review today. We got a lot of likes and shares again.

Lotus FB.PNG

I have also been busy capturing the race highlights on video.

So now its time to move to our third Lotus for the next race at Bathurst. The Esprit Turbo HC is a totally different beast than the last 2 cars. First official practice will be on Friday night. Saturday is 500pp club, and I may run some laps after we have finished. On Sunday I would like to run some races with pit stops, so we can see if there are any pit issues we should be aware of come race day. I would also like to run some slow laps to work out the track boundaries, so Sunday would be a good time to do this aswell. Anyway, its Esprit time so put your helmets on and get ready for some white knuckles.

Wow what a great Lotus Cars Facebook page write up! :)

Also loving the video Ade! 👍👍👍 Only goes up to Lap 8 though?

Well, just ran a few impromptu laps to try out the new car. The learning curve just went through the roof. This car is a beast, and Bathurst is possibly going to be the most challenging Sunday Cup race to date. Practice is definitely going to be a key factor for this race. I will run some more laps tomorrow, and then Friday will be the first official practice session.

Hmm. Not sure what happened there. Maybe the capture card switched off? Will have a look tonight to see whare the rest of it went.

Any joy with retrieving the rest of the video Ade? Would be nice to have the whole thing for completeness ideally :).... and also to have it on video me crossing the line first of course, as it will be a rare occasion !! ;) :D

Gosh, I'm going to be up against it with practising for Bathurst, hopefully I can join you for my first attempt on Sunday!

Unfortunately not. It only recorded 12 minutes, so the card must have switched off during the capture. Il try and do a part 2 over the weekend if I get time.

Great part one vid Ade. 👍

The race started well for me, running with Jammy and SoKa until Warren and Will joined in the fun. SoKa's unfortunate off left three of us to chase after Jammy until I spun out exiting the second chicane. (did you know, Warren loves chicanes :sly:) A quiet race for me after my deviation, and to rub salt inthe wound, I was passed in the pits too. Great race nonetheless.

Well done to Jammy for the win and Warren and Will for podiums.

Piccies!

Me Warren and Gary have done some, Erm kinda running on bathhurst. See the problem is someone decided to build a race track on top of a mountain, granted it's not the first or last time this will happen, but the could have used a steam roller to flatten it first, my god it's bumpy as hell, kerbs are a no no, practice like ade said will be key here learn the track run with other racers see how much space you don't have now, no run offs, just walls. Oh and be careful kids, the car wants to kill you, lol

Awesome pics Gary. After trying the Esprit Turbo last night, im sorry to see the Europa go. Never mind though, I did say that the progression through S4 would become more difficult and challenging with each car. I will be on again tonight from 8.30pm for a bit more testing, and taming.

Great work Gary. Looks Awesome mate. Looks like we will all have a brand new series at the end of SC. Onto Bathurst. Some more laps were run tonight, with 10 racers. We worked on set up, and learning the track. The Esprit is unforgiving here, but can be rewarding if you get it right. And that is going to be the trick here, getting it right. The track offers some serious high speed sections, but also some gut wrenching tight twisty mountain turns, which require a delicate foot, and a lot of patients. First official practice will be tomorrow night from 8.00pm.

Those of you who attended tonight will have realized that the car is relentless. The tune I have made for this car has been based on this ESPRIT, and this is why we are driving it at Bathurst. I know that the body shape is different, but both cars shared the same 2.2 four cylinder engine.

The first timed runs at Bathurst were interesting. The times tumbled as the evening went on. The circuit and car dont feel quite as alien as they did a few days ago. The trick here is definitely knowing when to get on the power, and how much power to apply. There are sections on this track where you can give the car a squirt of pedal, and it will grip and pull you through, but other parts where too much gas will will swiftly have you facing the wrong way. SokaGT was the fastest racer by the end of the first practice.

Tonight is GC Garys 500pp race at Brands Hatch, and Bathurst practice will resume when we have finished.

After the 500pp event last night, a few of us ran some laps at Bathurst. A few improvements for a couple of racers, and GC gary had his first timed runs in the Esprit. Tonights practicing will include some races with pit stops, so see if there are any pit related issues before next Sundays race. We will also do some slower runs to determine track boundaries. The lobby will be open from 8.00pm.
