So, I was thinking earlier that I need to secure a fightstick and/or an extra controller for the system, since I'm sure I will be the only one in my circle with this system for the first stretch of the new year, and I'm going to place that order with Amazon shortly.

Hopefully supplies don't dry up there, since I don't do the GameStop in person thing anymore.

I always thought that paying for online was either a little scam to get money or to cover online cost.

The latter. Providing such big services like Xbox Live or PSN do cost a lot of money. And you get what you pay for. Xbox Live was always the more stable service, with less downtime and more functionallity (Cross-Game-Chat). Since Sony started PSN+ and invested more into their network, they catched up with Microsoft. Both services are good now and I personally are fine with paying 4-5 bucks a month for the one I use.

I find the payment for Xbox Live over the top; $10 a month and $70 a year. PSN+ I must admit is reasonable.

You can get cheapest PS+ from Asian store like HK PSN - at less than US 30$ a year, better variety of game on offer - Japanese games, PS2, NeoGeo, PS1, Dreamcast classics titles, cheaper PSN games to boot. The best investment :D

Are they AUS $ prices? Because PS+ costs the same according to google. So why is that more reasonable?

Well it is $80 a year Australian but seriously, I thought PSN+ would be $7 a month for Australian.

This is the other major reason I am leaning toward the X1. True matchmaking. Or at least their version of true matchmaking. Halo 2 was the pure innovative of true matchmaking on consoles. So far all these years later Halo is still the only game to perfect this. With that said, it sounds like X1 is heading in the same direction for all games.

Matchmaking on Xbox One with Smart Match

At E3 we shared details on how Smart Match that is coming to Xbox One. I thought you’d like to hear more about Xbox One’s Smart Match how it will will work:

Smart Match finds the perfect players for the perfect game
Smart Match on Xbox One is matchmaking evolved. It’s smarter, faster and optimized to help you play with exactly the people you want, when you want. The advanced party system goes way beyond the beacons of Xbox 360, which was limited to people you already knew. Helping you discover and connect easily with players is now central to the experience. In addition, for the first time ever, games will be able to share player stats with Xbox Live and each other; to learn, evolve, and provide gamers with the best possible matchmaking available. The results? Titles have the ability to match you with other players based on reputation (which we will be talking more about in a post tomorrow), skill, language, age, and even your specific gameplay style. You won’t find yourself in way over your head but you’ll always have a good challenge.

Smart Match frees up your time
With Smart Match, you can do whatever you want while Xbox One finds your perfect match. This means that less popular multiplayer modes and maps that have traditionally taken a long time to find players suddenly become playable. Because Snap mode is a core feature of Xbox One that lets you do two things at once, you no longer have to wait in lobbies while Xbox Live is matchmaking for you. One friend can even set up matches for your whole party. While Xbox Live is matchmaking, you’re untethered and free to do what you want, like watch TV or check out your favorite website or apps while waiting for your next game. If you’re playing digital games, you can even play one game while Smart Match prepares a second. This freedom to break out of waiting in lobbies and do whatever you want is what separates Xbox One from systems that don’t have a way to instantly switch between tasks.

Smart Match lets you know when your game is ready
After you or a party member inputs the criteria for your perfect game, do something more fun than waiting; it’s up to you. Play another game. Find some new DLC. Jump on Reddit. Update your movie queue. Play some music. Skype with your friends. Like. Comment. Retweet. Take yourself as many touch points away from the matchmaking process as you can and you still don’t need to worry about finding your way back. Once Xbox One is done finding your perfect match, it will prompt you with a simple toast—no matter where you are or what you’re doing—so you can jump straight into playing

From what I remember from the Xbox marketplace, you can also get Dreamcast and original Sega games, older xbox games, and I could have sworn there was something else.

Dont know if this was mentioned but you have the option with Xbox Live for the "Family Plan"...this gives 4 gold accounts for $100 for a year...I am the Primary holder and have two other friends on my account with me and my son....Im hoping they keep the plan for the One

Bad idea unless you happen to live in an Asian territory (excluding japan). While the games are region free, dlc most likely won't be.

Say you have an American living in america who takes your advice and buys ps+ from HK. He won't be able to use that ps plus on his NA account, so he'd have to make an hk region account. As his games are NA region, dlc bought on the hk store won't work with it. Now he could always buy dlc from the us store, but as his ps+ account is an HK region account, it's highly unlikely that he'll be able to play online on his US account.

The games may be region free, but the stores will probably stay the same.

You have to have HK account to buy HK PS+, for me it works as I often buy disc games from online store Asian/R3 version - cheaper than getting US/EU version. This way you can use HK PS+ to enjoy discounts on DLC, and the Asian PS+ discounted DLC game can be played on all accounts on the PS3 - I have more than 25 PSN + Digital Download games including Ferrari TRE, NASCAR 2011, FIFA 13 ( most are Asian version ) - all can be played with my US and EU accounts without any issues. Only limitation of regional stores are the DLC - easily circumvented by sticking to one disc game region, if willing to do so. I bought all my DLC from Asian store using credit card - no issue. I am currently playing Asian FIFA 13 that I bought for less than US $10 on my US account :D I played online matches with people around the world.

PS+ free games or bought ones are accessible by all accounts on the PS3 used to purchase. For me, the main attraction of HK PS+ is free games and discounts on many R3 games I have. DLC is never a concern for me, I can buy any region ( US/EU/Asia-HK + JP ) DLC with credit card and prepaid vouchers :D

Of course, if you buy PS4 and wanted to access online play cheaply without worry, HK PS+ is the way to go, as all accounts in the PS4 will be able to go online play. You can always buy your specific region DLC on the appropriate store. If you plan to buy mostly R3 games on PS4, this will be even better :) and there's nothing to stop you, R3 games are cheaper and PS4 is region free. There are online store that sells R3 games cheaply and can ship worldwide as well as taking preorder.

A gamer should never be bound to buy only his native region games, that is just not smart :) as PS3 and PS4 are region free, DLC can be bought on their respective region - if you have credit card or access to buy prepaid PSN cards, this is non issue :) My advice about HK PS+ is for those who look for cheaper benefits of free games, better titles selection - old classics not available on US or EU stores and discounted PSN titles.

I'm well aware of that seeing as I live in japan, however, the savings aren't necessarily worth it when you consider the cost of shipping and the hassle to buy credit for a foreign store. You end up relying on websites for psn credit and they always take a cut.

As for importing games, There are also shipping charges to consider. I've bought from a couple of online retailers before and you have two choices. Wait 2-3 weeks (which I'm too impatient to do) or pay through the nose for shipping. For example, I order two US games from play Asia and ended up paying $10 for shipping.

And as for the "all accounts on a ps4 will be able to play online as long as one has plus" argument, expect that to be region locked too.

You can always use credit card for other region stores like I do, I only use prepaid for couple of times when I bought from local store near my home. I bought all imports from an online store that happens to be within the city I lived in, and the prices are only marginally more expensive - sometimes cheaper - for example - I bought R3 Mass Effect Trilogy and R1 Mortal Kombat Komplete Ed for US $60 including shipping :)

Please read my edited post above, getting HK PS+ may not be worth it for certain people, it's all depend on conditions and preferences. If I have PS4, I would definitely make use of HK PS+ just to get online play access. Region lock will only be for DLC - again not an issue for me, all games installed within the PS4 accounts will be able to go online play as long as one account has PS+ regardless which region - at least that's how I read it from several articles online.

Do you have a link? All articles I've read on the subject made no mention of regional limitations whatsoever. However, as the stores are currently separate, it seems logical that that would continue. I'd be happy if I was wrong, but I can't see them allowing it.

The current PS3 PS+ carries over to PS4, currently on PS3, all accounts from any region can access PS+ free games or bought contents, I don't see how PS4 will limit online access to just one PS+ account as Sony stated that one PS+ subscription works on all platforms ( PS3, PS4 and PS VITA ) as long it has one account that has PS+ in it. All trophies from PS3 account will also carry over to PS4.

Do I have to pay to play online with PS4?

Yes. To game online on most games, you will need to buy a PlayStation Plus subscription ($50 a year). Social features like having PSN friends, streaming services like Netflix and most Free-to-Play games like PlanetSide 2 will not require you to pay for PS+ however. Other little things like asynchronous online gameplay will be free. You also only need one PS+ account on a PS4 for all the users to play online.

All users means no region limit :D

One membership, three devices

PlayStation®Plus members can carry their membership over to their PS4™ system, and continue to use it with their activated PS3™ and PS Vita systems, at no additional cost.

PS+ FAQ

Will Playstation Plus carry over to Playstation 4?

Yes. You will only need one PS+ account, and that will work on your PS3/PS4 and PS Vita. You will benefit from all the features on all the machines.

If I have multiple accounts on PS4, will I need multiple subscriptions?

No, Sony has confirmed one PSPlus subscription will work for all accounts on a single PS4.

I don't think that's a given unless Sony specifically say so. They could be rightly assuming that a Playstation unit can only be in one region at a time, and so any users would have accounts in that region.

Which is not how it ends up working, I've got AU, JP, HK, and US accounts. But if you're a marketing guy, then maybe you just assume.

I guess we will just have to see when get our hands on PS4 :)

Exactly. I have a UK account (which is my main account) and a JP account. I'll probably create a NA account at some point too. It would be nice if I could buy plus for one of those accounts and play online with all of them but I can't see it happen. Most users don't have accounts split across multiple regions so Sony's silence on cross region plus access would imply that it won't be possible unless you have plus for each region. If one ps plus account was enough to enable online play on other region accounts, they'd probably mention that.

What was also rather telling was Sony's stance on region locking. They said that while it is possible to play games from other regions on your system, they recommend that you but games from your region. While I am glad that the system is region free, it seems like there will still be a hurdle or two on the online side of things.

Maybe have a PSN HK for PS+ for online gaming and have a UK or whatever account for downloading stuff (You can still download content without PSN+)?

Having multi region accounts on a PS3 or PS4 is not a hassle, I have US, EU, HK and JP accounts, all of them has credits in the wallet, I also have at least one disc game from each region, several Gundam games from JP, Heavy Rain and GTA IV from EU ( R2 ), MGS 4, GT5, etc from US, BFBC2, Mass Effect Trilogy, Uncharted Series from HK/Asia. I always buy from whichever region is the cheapest at the time :) I'm currently have HK PS+, all contents from PS+ works on all other accounts, so unless Sony change their policies on PS4 content sharing, it will still be the same.

I find it to be odd, if PS4 only needs 1 PS+ account to enable all users to play online, but imposing limits on region of the said users, while DLC, digital download and disc games installed from different region/store will be accessible on all accounts regardless of region - hence region free games where you can play any region PS4 games on any PS4 - just like in PS3.

Online play access across all users on a single PS4 is separate from DLC region locking scheme IMO - as all region free games have DLC purchase locked to each region they are released on, but accessible to be played offline + online on all accounts in one console. I have BFBC 2 Ultimate Edition Asian region with free Battlefield 1943 bonus and all the map pack, I can play all of them on all accounts ( JP, US, EU ) including buying account region ( HK )

Maybe have a PSN HK for PS+ for online gaming and have a UK or whatever account for downloading stuff (You can still download content without PSN+)?

That's what I would do if I have PS4, HK PS+ for gaining access to online play and whatever bonuses from HK store are basically added value, and the rest JP, US, EU accounts for every disc games/ download / DLC - whichever the cheapest :) I'm optimistic that other region accounts will be able to get online play, as I can use HK PS+ account to play other region games installed on the console anyway.

For example - US DriveClub with DLC bought from US store can still be played on HK account which have PS+, Sony won't lock out the content to single region account it was purchased - that would be dumb and very restrictive if they promote region free games as a selling point.

Turn 10: 'Xbox One cloud offers 600% more AI capability'

OXM.co.uk
Forza 5, in conclusion, is "a massive game, a quality game, an innovative game. At launch of the console. It's crazy hard. It's the hardest thing we've ever done. But it's exciting, we're having fun, but it's a huge challenge."

Turn 10 is particularly chuffed at being able to make use of Xbox One's cloud computing support for its much-sung Drivatar AI system, which trades out pre-scripted computer drivers for cloud-stored entities that learn from player behaviour. Greenawalt described the ability to offload such tasks to servers as a "tremendous opportunity".

"When you've got a learning neural network, more computing power is nothing but helpful. Because what you're able to do is process a lot more information, and you don't have to do it in realtime on the box. And that frees up more of the box to be doing graphics or audio or other computational areas."

"So we can now make our AI instead of just being 20%, 10% of the box's capability, we can make it 600% of the box's capability. Put it in the cloud and free up that 10% or 20% to make the graphics better - on a box that's already more powerful than we worked on before."

Does that mean drivatar would be 600% more harder to beat ? I don't think that would be fun. Or those 600% more will be used for more realistic drivatar that behaves like real people, blocking, weaving, shunting, slows down unexpectedly, you know, the usual human behavior driving online. I am worried about drivatar profiling from those aggressive and dirty drivers, we could see drivatar AI behaving erratically at random times.

Yup that was a huge mistake IMO. The $25.00 a year was so nice for many people. Hopefully they bring something like that back for the X1. But for now just keep an eye out for $34.00 a year deals for live.
