love the hdmi in and out

can connect my dish cable box and it will control the tv, dish box and a/v receiver

it will turn on and off everything with 1 verbal command

as an entertainment system, not just games. xbox one > ps4
UPS just dropped off my One, interested in how you can control your av receiver from the One?

I do love the HDMI thing, its pretty cool how its basically like a Harmony remote and you can jump in and out with voice commands. If PS4 did all this it would be the perfect package.

I suppose its doing much of this using HDMI CEC which is known to be an unstandardised system. Could there be AV things it won't play nice with?

go through the setup and you will see

i got it, went home, plugged it all in, went through the setup then slept. havent had time to mess with it or even play a game.

i know it can turn the av receiver on and off, not sure how to control the volume yet.

not sure how it all works, maybe it programs the controller like a universal remote.

if i say "xbox turn on" or something like that, my tv, av receiver and cable box all turn on. same when you say "Xbox turn off"

That's actually pretty awesome. Right now I have to turn on 360 with controller, turn on tv with another controller, and turn on receiver with another controller.

Even more of a pain when I have to turn my PS3 on just for blu ray movies. To be able to do everyone on the X1 like that would be really nice.

You have to operate all of 3 controllers/remotes!?!?!? OHH THE HORROR!
Surely you can't be this lazy... It just can't be possible.

Technology. Move with it.
Or do whatever works for your living room setup and is comfortable/convenient for you...?

For instance, I almost always play 360 with the play & charge adapter because no one is liable to step in front of me with our living room arrangement, and mucking about with battery power for a sedentary activity, where I'm ~4 feet from the console at most, is pretty silly. Wired controllers? What a concept! :dopey:

I know about the proper wired 360 controller, too; I might get one if my USB Logitech ever dies so I can finally use a gamepad on those short-sighted indie PC games that only support the 360 controller for non-keyboard input...

After my first couple of hours with the One, I have to say I am very impressed with the voice controls and the seamless integration with my DirecTV and A/V receivers, adj. volume, change channels, start apps, pause/fast forward, and one voice command to turn all equipment on or off - slick.
My copy of FM5 didn't get here yet so downloaded a couple limited use games, one being Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason - couldn't believe how responsive and accurate the Kinect could pick up very small movements.
It will take a little while until all the voice commands become second nature but what I massive improvement over the first generation.
So far so good...

Using that arguement as an excuse for being lazy
Oh, you can't write a letter instead of typing it out? Lazy. That's how poorly thought out your argument is.

Has nothing to do with being lazy. Technology is developed to make things in life easier to access. I have a remote from Logitech that controls all my TV/Audio setups. It's not lazy, it's just an easier form of control.

Cough cough - Lazy - cough.

Make sure to keep your tv remote handy anyway. I heard that if your TV is already on and you say "Xbox on", it will turn your tv off.

I think it was highlighted when someone here was watching the XbOne presentation on their 360 and at the command "Xbox off" the Kinnect switched off their 360...or something like that.

After playing around with it last night, I really like it. The home screen is nice and I really like using the voice commands to operate everything. I think Forza is much better than the reviews too, which is always a plus.

DVD?

Wii U uses a 25GB disc from Panasonic, its a bluray disc and drive but doesn't play DVD or Blurays. Regardless, I'm on about the mechanical drive.
Yeah sorry, I forgot that it had a completely different one as the original Wii.

Well that is what i was talking earlier. This begins a list of problems for this rushed into market game console. With coming weeks and moths we will see what other serious problems Xbox has.
Both systems sell 1 million units in the first 24 hrs, both have a handful of defect reports, in a nutshell both have had a very successful launch.

So far I am very pleased with the One, can't hear the thing running and very little heat produced.

You did not get it. It was a joke. The game is Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy for PC and it made Chewbacca's voice.

I fiddled a bit with an X1 (also did the PS4 HDMI input thing).

At launch, the X1 is better equipped than the PS4, but is laggy, and glitchy. FM5 played like a dream but there were several nuances that threw me off because of the hardware. The first problem is voice recognition, I live in a Spanish speaking country and the thing sucks at taking Spanish commands recognitions, it did better when it was set to English, but once we started using it on Spanish it wouldn't recognize commands, or simply misinterpreted them.

Everything is done with the "xbox, do this/that", and it does in the way when you are talking about the xbox, people who were on the demo unit were pretty confused because they said "xbox this, xbox that" and it became a mess because it would switch out the game, launch explorer, launch skype, open guides, open notifications. The tech is amazing, but is not ... practical, neither reasonable, PS4 have limited voice commands, but the whole interface fluid better without the eye thing, or the voice recognition thing.

Software wise, the X1 has better downright better exclusive games (dead rising and FM5 were awesome), but it has more things that get in the way of gameplay like notifications and such. I found no point to the whole integrated TV thing either, is cool to have guides and all, but is something set-up boxes already do (in this case Direct TV) and is rather blotting the whole game experience thing. There are already smart TVs that have similar but better functionality, and the price for the thing locally is just outrageous (650 USD because kinect).

I can see that is designed for the American market, I don't regret getting the PS4 instead of this, but is a total shame that the X1 has better software for it (at least at launch).

War thunder is due to the 29th, when I would have something to play on PS4 (might get KZ shadowfall once I get the yearly PSN+), however as of now I would have much more fun with the X1, even if it has a more problematic UI and hardware.

Xbox One TV Integration Broken For UK & Europe: Sky 50Hz Stutter
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/xbox-50hz-201311233468.htm

Just to try and stop confusion. EU HDTVs support 50/60hz. The problem is broadcasts in the EU are 50hz. Your xbox will output 60hz which is not a problem while gaming but the new xbox is doing both TV andf gaming so your 50hz broadcast will get shown at 60hz which will cause judder. If you connect your cable/sat/freeview box directly to your TV, the 50hz broadcast will be shown at 50hz by your EU HDTV so everything is in sync.
