Well, that doesn't matter anymore because the Xbox is no longer meant to be just for gaming, or at least it doesn't to Microsoft, I think.

^

Don't troll. I clearly said what xbox problems are.

I'm not trolling. You said it's his OPINION that Xbox has enough games then swiftly said it's a FACT that it has very few games to justify it's purchase. Do you honestly not see the issue there?

In case you do, Xbox 360 has plenty of exclusive games

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_exclusives_(seventh_generation)#Xbox_360

Whether they make it worth buying the console is down to OPINION, not FACT, as you claim.

That's what I don't really get about this, they say that it's an "all in one" box and that they want people to watch TV through the Xbox but at the end of the day it's jut a pass-through device enabling people to control it with Kinect.

As I said earlier I know for a fact if it was to work with my Virgin V+ HD box it would not be as fast and smooth as the demonstration with whichever US service they demoed it with.

This is probably a very long term bid from MS, think of it as a foot in the door. A few years later MS may co develop a proper all in one entertainment box that's the same for most countries. Certainly the kinect would be very useful built into TVs and cable/satellite boxes.

MS has been since day one hoping to capture that living room space, its a very important area to them and long term goal.

Perhaps it can be unified but I think its too fickle and ever changing that its best left to be a free market and competitive.

Another thing is how people spend their time going forwards. My impression is many under 30s don't watch barely any TV, don't have cable/sat, some watch the odd program via internet, hence all the ads now on youtube for every video, companies now know where we're at. Anyways, it presents a big problem to the status quo as its really pointing to be more fragmented and diverse.

Former EA CEO: Gamers will learn to love always-on DRM

John Riccitello
Gamers will want, and learn to love, the good parts of consoles being more connected to our digital lives than was possible with the machines launched eight years ago. Some gamers fear the new consoles could be more about a DRM-walled garden than about enabling new types of connected gameplay. More about squashing second-sale (used games) than allowing us to play the games we own at our friends houses, in dorms or at home, without having to bring the disk with us. I don’t believe consoles managed as walled-gardens will succeed longer term.

That list has many kinect games so if you include them, there obviously there are many games. But it is a fact, that is the weakest thing about xbox.

No that's not a fact no matter how many times you say it is. Unless they've redefined the meaning of the word and nobody told me.

Damn my favourite racing franchise has ditched my wheel and gone to a Sky broadcasting box.
You could knock me over with a feather, I would never have guessed.

I wonder how that TV integration will actually work.

Would be nice to be able to hook my sat box to it and change channels via voice command but I have a hard time believing this will actually work. Maybe if I buy a new $500 sat box to go with the new $500 wheel they expect me to buy.

Maybe then after I get all this new equipment I can say CBS and it will change to TBS ;)

What do you mean ditched your wheel?

Surely the Fanatec wheels that work on the xbox 360 work on the Xbox One?

Either you're mistaken or MS have dropped XiD and haven't gone to HiD but something else entirely.

There are several solutions to those paranoid about the camera.

1) turn the Kinect around/on it's back when your not using it, it will still pick up your voice.
2) put a piece of electric tape, a box, a dvd case, or something in front of the camera
3)unplug it from the xbox

I don't understand all the fuss about the camera. I've had kinect for since it came out and I haven't found any incriminating videos of me on the web. I've had girls over that felt wierd about it, so all of the above will solve the problem.

The old game pads don't work apparently. I thought the wheel would be in the same boat.
Thomas hasn't clarified either so I'm thinking its a no go. I'd be happy to be wrong.

I agree. If the wheels where gonna work on the x1 I believe Thomas would be on all the fourms saying such. I think his silence speaks volumes.

Considering there's Forza branded Fanatec wheels and Forza being a flagship first party game and launch title, would seem bizarre for them to drop support. I know we're a small group of people who own the wheels but still.

If there's some other techincal reason that couldn't be overcome due to the way the OS handles or some wifi change, that's going to be devasting unless its simply a change to HiD but I heard Xbox is keeping XiD. Maybe down to wifi change then?

Well I haven't followed the wheel threads lately but I guess the dedicated guys and Thomas are on the case.

I don't even want to think about my Turbo S not working with the new console

Perhaps the MS design team didn't consider the wheel situation and just went all new, hopefully something can be added or redesigned.

it's not like its some distant support, T10 showed up to last E3 with Fanatec rigs I think. You would think T10 will want to again have decent wheel rigs at E3 or wherever for Forza 5 and T10 would be onto this being a first party launch title and testing the game with Fanatec wheels.

I hope this is not some plan to re-sell the wheels

Microsoft: 'Only Xbox One controllers, accessories will work with the new console.

Joystiq
Xbox One was designed from the ground up with entirely new technology to deliver a new generation of experiences for both games and entertainment For example, the Wireless Controller will connect to the console using high speed data transfer to enable higher fidelity headset audio and future controller add-on experiences that are not possible with Xbox 360 wireless technology. Additionally, the all-new Kinect sensor's ability to locate the wireless controller is dependent on new technology. In order for Xbox One to deliver robust, meaningful gaming scenarios for all users across all experiences, only Xbox One controllers and accessories will work with the new console.

However, while it isn't explicitly said, Microsoft's statement seems to indicate the Xbox One won't support any Xbox 360 accessories. When asked on Twitter if the new system supports Xbox 360 headsets, Xbox Support reiterated the statement we received, saying, "Only Xbox One accessories will work with Xbox One, which helps us deliver better headset audio and other benefits.

With the exception of the PS Move, the PS4, I believe is in the same boat.

Well consolation for me is I'm primarily a pc gamer.

I know of some guys on fm.net who are solely xbox 360 players who spent a lot of money just for Forza. I feel really sorry for the guys who spent hard earned money just to get the only decent wheel plus the accessories, all becasue they love Forza.

Man, this just gets better and better.

- Online every 24 hours. Basically always online then.
- Expensive second hand games. Up to 10% cheaper.
- Less RAM for games. Because 3GB for running 3 OS.
- Emphasis on tv, sports, football over games.
- Over hyped Call of Duty. "whoaaa, amazing"

Looks like their target audience is the average American household, where you have the dad who loves everything sports/football, everybody who loves tv and their kids who love Call of Duty. Other than that, probably fans of Microsoft/Xbox brand.

I Hope Sony doesn't go down the same route for dealing with second hand games and DRM. And provide support for at least the G27 wheel. :scared:

Yeah, so far I think PS4 has the advantage in the console wars.
I was on IGN and see they are having a vote on which console is better.

And remember 4>1 ;)

Conference did not interest me, I enjoy playing games and that isn't really what the Xbox One seems to be about. I know they said E3 will be all about games but I bet it won't like always. I really enjoy COD (especially zombies) but I won't buy it just for that. Anyways see what happens...

From what I have read they changed from RF to WiFi Direct and that is why the existing wireless controllers will not work. If that be the case then Fanatec wheel would not work either unless they either get a hardware change or the XBoxOne allows them to connect Via USB or possibly provide a special USB adapter for the RF signal receiver

Looks like there may not be a used game fee, "but (Xbox One) will mandate regular checks to verify the authenticity of games."

Only active duty military may be exempt from such regular checks

This is truly astonishing. I purchase content, but then I have to let the developers of the content "check in on me" every 24 hours to make sure Im not up to anything.

So we're now all considered possible thieves. Thats how you create people like this.

Im holding out hope they will eventually change this strategy. I want to buy Xbox One and Forza 5. I really do. But I have to take the high ground here. Cant accept this.

Also Sony would be utterly stupid to adopt a similar used game or DRM strategy when they're looking like the good guy in all of this, earned or not

Most of the games on that Xbox 360 list aren't Kinect games and as a gaming system it was comparably strong to PS3. That's fact, not opinion.

The tragedy is that MS are throwing away the fanbase they built up with such a strong previous console by borking the One with DRM and inbuilt surveillance tech.

I'm sorry, but some people really need to grow up. Oh noes! DRM and Kinect and TV, oh my!

lions-tigers-bears.jpg

If you want an Xbone, live with it. DRM is here, and will be here for the PS4 as well (they just haven't announced it yet). Kinect, you can actually switch the camera off if you don't want it on, it just has to be plugged in. Why don't you just take it off the top of the TV, or turn it around to face the wall? I'm not bothered by it at all. TV? If you don't want it, don't use it. It just give people the ability to use the console as a Smart TV without having to buy one.

Old controllers not working is an issue, but I'm sure Fanatec will find a solution, because if MS ever expect to sell any of the Forza branded wheels, they will have to be supported. Maybe the reason why Thomas from Fanatec can't say anything about it is because they are governed by NDAs. SMS are governed by NDAs about the Wii-U, and the damn console has been released!

This thread just seems to be going round and round in circles, 'I'm not buying this console because it has TV/DRM/Kinect always on (which it doesn't)/Online always on (which it doesn't)/my house is on fire/wibble' annoys me. If you're not going to buy it, why do you feel the need to tell us why we shouldn't buy one?

Can you provide a source for the PS4 having DRM?

If not then its a may not a will.

In regard to the Kinect camera from what I have read to date it has to be plugged in and you can't switch it off or mute it, if you have a source for MS saying otherwise that would be great (honestly - because that's a major issue for me).

Whatever the solution is for Fanatec its not going to be free for owners of current wheels, and right now its stopping at least one person buying a wheel form them.

Its also entirely possible that MS has moved to another wheel provider (as Sony did moving from Logitec to Thrustmaster), which could also explain Fanatec being silent on the issue, as acknowledging that would kill all 360 wheel sales overnight.

Its a discussion forum, that means (as long as the AUP is followed) people from both sides get to have a say. That I can assure you is not going to change.

Sony already stated that they are leaving used games for developers/puplishers to decide what to do with. You just take whatever is thrown at you, without speaking out when a company goes too far? If everyone did that, gaming would be completely ruined by now.

One key point that separates the PS4 from the Xbox One is game installation. You have to install the entire game to the Xbox One hard drive from the disc. After that the game will run from the HDD without the need of the disc. Obviously thats going to cause problems if there isn't strict pass codes and online DRM.

As far as we know, PS4 games do not have to be completely installed on the HDD. That means the games have to play off of the disc, so DRM isnt a necessary requirement
