Sony already stated that they are leaving used games for developers/puplishers to decide what to do with. You just take whatever is thrown at you, without speaking out when a company goes too far? If everyone did that, gaming would be completely ruined by now.
They haven't really stated anything besides that it can play used games (correct me if I'm wrong!). Obviosuly so can the XBONE but with a twist. The most idealistic for me personally would be if Sony indeed left it up to the publishers. It would makes things much easier and to determine which publishers are even worth bothering with in the first place. Optionality is the key here. I'm sick of getting DRM shoved down my throat at every opportunity.

After reading your post regarding Sony's statement, I did some research. And it would appear that you're right. The only statements from Sony on the subject of used games are that they will work on the PS4, and that they will do the right thing by both consumers and puplishers. Hopefully, that means doing it just like it is on the PS3.

Sony already stated that they are leaving all things regarding used games to the individual puplishers. In other words, they aren't enforcing any global DRM on the PS4. Unless of course they change their original statement.

My understanding is how Hyland put it.

Still, I wouldn't put much faith in anything so far. Sony may be obliged to put in similar DRM by the big publishers.

In regards to the USB wheel support mentioned a few posts back. No doubt MS could enable wheel support via USB but they likely will not do so. They could probably even control it to where only selected wheel would work by looking at an internal ID or something like that. They could use a USB adapter that receives the existing signal and transmits the new signal [may introduce a slight lag in controls]

Of course they could have left the connect type unchanged and we would not be talking about it here. We will juts have to wait and see what they do and what actually works.

Over the years I have been a big supporter of MS and have never liked Apple largely because MS systems and software were more open and more widely compatible and Apple seemed to take the big brother approach wanting to restrict and control everything but things seem to be changing in the last few years and not for the better in MS land.

German federal commissioner for privacy protection: "Xbox One is a monitor/surveillance device."

Spiegel Online
Berlin - The Federal Data Protection Commissioner Peter Schaar has announced the Microsoft Xbox game console One criticism. "Under the heading, game device 'Microsoft pushes a monitoring device in the market," Schaar told SPIEGEL. "The Xbox continuously records all sorts of personal information about me. Reaction rates, my learning or emotional states. The are then processed on an external server, and possibly even passed on to third parties. Whether they will ever be deleted, the person can not influence."

Translation may be slightly off, but you get the gist.

Microsoft: Xbox One at E3 will be games, games, games.

MS also need to focus on directly clarifying aspects of the Xbox One, their different and vague answers need to end. Hopefully the other 2 console manufacturers follow suit.

Microsoft disables YouTube comments following Xbox One reveal

Seems MS aren't happy with the negativity they themselves created. E3 will indeed be interesting.

A few posts late but...

Whoa, that's how they react to the negative feedback? By disabling people's freedom to comment on their product. That's what got people unhappy in the first place, taking away their freedom to choose, whether they want kinect on or off, and so on.

Mannn, dis gon b gud come E3.

The mic seems to be always on, even if the Xbox One is turned off (stand-by).

This way you can turn on the Xbox One just by yelling at it.

Did Microsoft actually say that this kind of data would be recorded and uploaded to their servers, or is this just speculation from people who are overly paranoid about Xbox One's always-on Kinect?
They said something like they want to know what the gamers personal preferences are.

I'll actually take back the hateful things I've said about MS and wait until E3 before I judge, but seriously - the surveillance thing is not cool

Not surprising since companies like Google and Facebook thrive off of selling your personal preferences and tendancies to marketers. Right now it's becoming more and more obvious that they're pinning all their hopes and profit strategy on getting this box in people's homes, not for the consumer, but for corporations.

"Look at this! It can literally read the emotions of your audience during the entire experience. The microphone keyword scanning software will highlight whenever one of the targe... consumers mention a product, complain, or praise. Due to our brilliant and patented lifestyle detection software, the Kinect will be able to, in concert with our cloud systems, deduce what time the consumer and their families are home and when it's best to attempt direct sales and other market strategies. If the consumer has opted to disconnect the system, the Kinect comes with a small clock battery that will allow it to still transmit audio to our servers as long as there's still an internet connection. We hope you consider us to be part of your sales resources as this relies much less on direct human interaction than our competitors and we aim to include in as many houses as we can this holiday season due to our aggressively low pricing strategy. Our loss-leader is your opportunity to get to know your customers in a way only dreamed about prior. Thank you"

Yes, I made that up.

Microsoft answers the question of Xbox One region locks
“Similar to the movie and music industry, games must meet country-specific regulatory guidelines before they are cleared for sale,” A rep from Microsoft confirmed to Digital Trends. “We will continue to work with our partners to follow these guidelines with Xbox One.”

No surprise, I assume.

Edit: ''Country-specific regulatory guidelines'' makes me wonder if it's about region-lock at all. Perhaps a misunderstanding from the author of the article?

I was hoping that MS or Fanatec would release some info related to the CSR wheels and XBox One but am starting to think that we will not really know anything now until E3.

If MS had only said, "Yeah, it monitors all the stuff going on in the room, but there's a button in some sub-menu 14 levels down to turn it off if you want".

Everyone would be happy. The evil corporation isn't monitoring us!

I'd also put any money that almost no one would bother switching it off. You'd get the techy guys and the tin foil hat crowd, but your average Joe probably wouldn't bother.

MS get what they want (data), AND avoid the terrible publicity that they're getting now.

MS are fools.

My opinion on this is if they were going to work M$, Turn 10 or Fanatec one would be all over the sim racing fourms saying you have nothing to worry about your wheels will work fine. With not one of them saying a word I dont think its lookin to good. I dont see M$ making special provisions for wheel users. Its just not a big enough share of the pie for them. That leaves Turn 10 and Fanatecs hands pretty much tied as far as the old wheels go.

I still have to question the whole "Kinect is always watching/listening" thing. Surely, they could allocate a button on the controller to turn the system on (ala PS3) which would then turn kinect on? I realize that they want everything to be convenient and don't want to force someone to use a game controller to watch tv, but one button press wouldn't be so bad, would it?

Edit: And apparently, the Xbox one will be region locked. That's the final nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned.

Can't complain about how it's done on the PS3. Press any PS button and it starts, simple. I'd prefer that over yelling at kinect anyway.

And what if you or somebody else unintentionally says something? Like: yeah I'm gonna watch TV upstairs! *switches from super hyper important online game to TV mode -> angry gamer rant*
Fail I guess.

This Sky Virgin deal is not to do with home fibre access which will still be done through BT Openreach regarding Sky but for backhaul capacity needs. I think this was probably due to buying O2 Broadband service. Otherwise it would probably get too congested if they didn't do something about it.

It Sky using Virgins network to link its core network with actual customers, that is what the backhaul is in this case. As such it has rather a lot to do with home access, as without it Sky would not be able to reach the same size market. That the EU didn't force Virgin to open up its network (as they did with BT) means that Sky do have little option but to work with Virgin in this case, well its that or they build their own network.

I couldn`t care less if a gaming console supports this or that tv network. M$ should have announced an advanced tv box that allows playing games as well. They lost focus on gaming. Sad but true IMAO.

No it is not. It is Sky increasing its backhaul capacity with use of Virgin Media's High Capacity Services to stop congestion problems like this: Link

Lol. :sly:

I am really amused by the rage against the Xbox One. Even in the GameSpot Battle the Xbox One gets hammered badly. People and even the Media are jumping on rumours and vague information. Everybody hates the Xbox, but nobody understands how much attention Microsoft gets with this bad media.

"The Xbox One is not for gamers anymore.."
"Xbox Go home.."

After E3 it will definetly change a lot. When people see the new games.

Do you all think that Microsoft wont let you trade in your used games? That they want to spy every move you make? What you do in your living room? I have never heard so much nonsense. That every phone call and text you send get filtered and probably saved wont stop anybody to still use their phone...

If those rumours where true, Microsoft would have cleared it already.

It was just a console anouncement. Just the hardware. Everybody was expecting them to show all their games at this point. Some lousy weeks before E3. Really...

I almost feel bad for Microsoft.
They're taking so much crap right now, but like I said, I'll wait until E3 to make my final decision.

Odd that it doesn't mention backhaul at all in that piece, or that the definition of a network backhaul (which I linked to) doesn't meet that either.

However its a moot point, the fact remains that either way Sky have no choice but to work with Virgin.

The UK's broadband infrastructure is effectively owned by two organisations, BT (which has to open it up to other companies) and Virgin (who don't), both of whom are inverting around 2.5 billion a piece in upgrades and new connections. If Sky want capacity and access to UK consumers of broadband then they need to work with both, as such my original statement that Sky have to work with Virgin stands.

Sure they will let you trade your games in, but only to their aproved places and at the price M$ see fit, not the market.

Yes M$ want to spy on you. Look at the patents they have filed for with the x1.

What I do in my livingroom is my business. Thats the whole point of this debate.

My cellphone does what I expect it to do send info I tell it to. The x1 seems to send whatever info it (or M$) see fit.

By all means go ahead and put one in your house. I just aint puttin one in mine.

Leave out the M$ nonsense please. Its MS and Sony, not M$ and $ony.

You may also (for balance) want to check out the number of patents that Sony have filed over the years in very similar areas.

Right now the X1 is off the table for me and if Sony pull a similar thing with the PS4, well then my guitar fund gets some money it wasn't expecting this year.

You will probably find it not odd, if you understand more about it.

There was probably other companies they could have worked with but Virgin Media one most likely was the best deal.

Sky's access to UK customers for Broadband is still dependent on BT Exchanges they have unbundled.

Yes Sony have filed some similiar patents, but as of yet Sony havent tried to put a camera and mic in my house. Then tell me I need to leave it plugged in and let it connect to the net atleast once a day. When Sony does Ill be here yelling the same thing.

Yes Ive also read the interview where MS say you can unplug the camera (not mic), but also mention that most of x1's features will be disable. Who knows what that means.
