To grind or not to grind, that is the question

I get the whole progression thing, and enjoy it to a certain degree. The thing is, most of my game play now is in online mode. There just isn't time to play enough to generate the resources to afford putting 5 different cars a week on the grid. If all I was doing was the offline, single player stuff, then grind I would, to get the cars I want to drive and use for other single player stuff. Back in GT5, I started a year late. If not for the Bspec grinder widget to bolster the offline stuff I did, I'd never have been able to get spun up in the online series that I did do. Those tools are not available in GT6, so, off to the glitch I went.

I miss the good old days where you could only win the high value cars driving hard 90 lap / 200 & 300 mile endurance races. That felt less like grinding, made the endurance races much more attractive (who does 4 hours endurance races for 200.000 credits?) and rewarding. GT1&2 had it right.

Typically, there are races that I like to go back and race with something that will be more challenging or even see what kind of times I get comparing different cars. After a while, I notice that I'm about to limit out on credits and need to buy a car. If there is a certain high dollar car that I want, I use "ginding" to learn a track better. In Gt5 I used the seasonal race #4 A-spec around the Nurburgring for cash as it would pay out 1m with sign in upgrade. To begin with I had trouble beating the BMW Mclaren F1 GTR with a race car. Eventually I was beating him with street cars. What started out as a way to get credits eventually became my own enjoyable challenge to see what street cars I could win with. I was having so much fun that it actually became a bother to have to stop racing and go buy more cars.

Man this is 2014 not 1999. How in the world can you find enjoyment running the same race over and over and over, to win imaginary dollars just so you can buy a car you really want so you can drive it? Wouldn't it make more sense to be able to get that car and just enjoy driving it, without all the grinding?
What does 1999 have to do with anything, GT5 was released in 2010 & really grinding is the quickest & easiest way to obtain 20mil cars. But if you want to go to the GT store & outlay $70 of real money X3 for your 20 odd mil don't let me stop you. Happy grinding.

You should not have to race on one track for hours and hours just to get a few of credits this is not what you call fun or you will be spending a few weeks in rehab but there is a solution to all of this is to increase the prize money on all racing events or lower all of the expensive cars to around 6 or 7 million credits which is better thing to do and this will make players very happy and bring back the fun in the game.

Point that you missed is, there should be more than just two options to acquire cars. Grinding might have been fine in 1999 but this is 2014 and having to still grind indicates a lack of advancement in basic game design and a disconnect with a large chunk of the fanbase that wants nothing to do with grinding. Yes some still enjoy it, or more likely just tolerate it, but many don't.

People can enjoy redoing races in 2014 just as much when we enjoyed doing it in GT1 back in 1999.
Back in 99 there was no log in bonus, no seasonal events. You had to re do races.
I must have done the Sunday Cup a 1000 times just because it was fun to try out all the cars ( just over 100 I think).

I reckon money is real easy in GT6, I have 40 million credits and have only repeated a few races. ( still 3 S events to finish) no way you could call it grinding. I have over 120 cars and have spent 2 million in parts and service to get the trophy, and also wasted money on driving gear to get that trophy.

If you win 5 3 lap races you can get 2 million which takes 30 minutes and the races are a blast. You can even take short cuts to win if that fis your thing.

How can redoing 5 laps of Bathurst in a SS Commodore be called grinding ?

if you hate grinding, get the GameGenie for ps3, and unlock all the money, buy all the cars and you can just really enjoying driving online and offline.

I enjoy driving - And I guess have fallen lucky that the best races - (Tyre and Fuel depletion and last more than 3 laps) also happen to pay well. I've gone from a nice amount of cash building up to the S Licence - I think I blew 2 million on a Bentley for the Mini-duro 24 minute races. My fun at Willow Springs has fattened my pile of kazulas to 44 million. (I am Smaug)

I get a bit of a grump when I repeat lower races... as the payout is ... lower. And just to rub it in, these races are not as much fun as the ones where I have to keep an eye on my fuel and hope my tyres don't buy the farm.

I'm not in any rush to Buy cars... I still want to drive the ones I've bought a bit more than 50 miles before I get bored and get a fresh car. And GT6 has every car available right away - so long as you have the funds.

GT5 had the used car lottery of short windows to buy a few - rare cars. And that would drain me of credits - got to buy them now, or they may not return for 1600 days! GT6 not having a used car area has taken any need to buy up every car now.

The only races I've run that I didn't want to do, were to get the Gold Plated Bucket trophy or some stars to move to different levels.

Do not waste your life with grinding in GT6. Grinding in GT6 is for 35 year olds who are jobless. The target audience of Polyphony GT6 makers. Tsk tsk. LOL :)

Point is, not everyone enjoys grinding. Many people don't enjoy offline to begin with, and those that do, are constantly posting about wanting more and more different events. As I said, it isn't 1999, it's a different world, a different player, online is beckoning and consumers demand more and varied content from everything.

Ryk

Yes, and two months into the game if you buy a couple of really fun to drive classic cars, cars everyone should have an opportunity to drive and have in their garage, you have nothing, zero, nada, zip in your bank account. How many people do you think have that kind of time to invest in a game just to be able to drive a couple of cars?

Fair enough I take your point. If you dust off your ps2 & see the vast amount of events in gt4 & compare that to gt5-6 there is a massive gulf. So why the lack of events? have the maxed out the ps3s capacity or just lazy who knows?
You mentioned there should be more than two ways to obtain cars. What is the third outside DLC, trading with a friend perhaps?

Trading is one way. A sandbox mode where all cars are available in your garage from the beginning and maybe you have to earn upgrades. More events with cars as prizes. Add in a difficulty slider to Offline Career Mode, add in a lap minimum to get another prize car and have prize cars for every event. The harder the event the better the car. Buy 1 get 1 Free sales... Anything to get cars into the garage quicker. Of course if someone wants a bigger challenge you should be able to toggle these things on and off if that's what you like to do.

PD wont bump up prize credit while they can still milk dlc credit money. once GT6 goes pass its peak then credit becomes more easily available - no more grinding will be needed. they were surely quick to patch up that money glitch while ignoring all the other minor glitches they seemed couldnt give a toss.

i only play GT6 to challenge myself against talented young ones on TT events. i figured this is far cheaper and faster way to enhance my driving skill than driving my real mivec mirage on real circuit that used to cost me so much money. TT events to me are not at all fun, its stressful than anything else because i have to always look for an extra tenth. compared to that, career mode is far more relaxing and enjoyable so grinding doesnt apply to me i guess. i do away with cars that are given to me as prize and now i have 19mil credits i have no idea how to spend.lol

Just asking does anyone know anyone who forked out real cash for in game credits? cause I really don't think PD thought this one through, I mean a DLC car is one thing if you can't obtain it in the game in its standard form.
But just 1hr of solid driving on the new Redbull event will net you close to 6 or 7mil cr with a full login bonus.

Sorry but I have to disagree with this, that would be the worst thing to ever happen and would put people like me off the GT series.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I believe that you have to earn things to appreciate them rather than having everything given to you on a plate. If everything was just given on a plate the game would get very boring very fast and a lot of people would not last longer than a couple of weeks before moving onto another game, and the GT series would die as a result.

One of the best things about the GT series is the longevity of the game. Every GT game I have had I used for long periods after the initial release date. Look at GT5 for example, been out for 3 years and people still play it and it still gets new seasonal events, this would simply not be the case if everything in the game was available for free at the beginning.

Also, if you like driving and have a love of cars then the actual driving of cars on a track is never grinding, it's enjoyable. This is a driving game and if you feel like driving is a chore and that entering a race is a grind then I really think that a driving game is perhaps not for you.

Yes. I know of a person that forked out $300 on release date for in game credits. That weekend, the credit glitch was discovered and he did that too. No, it wasn't me.

Driving isn't a chore. Driving the same car(s) in the same event over and over is.

But of course I have a perfect solution for your dilemma with sandbox mode. You fire up the game for the first time, eventually you get to a screen that says, "Do you want to play with sandbox mode YES/NO?" Pick one. Problem solved. You can play the old way, I can play my way. Everyone wins.

Options my friend, they make the game adaptable to anyone's personal preferences.

I like driving different cars and upgrading them. And to do that you will need credits. A lot of credits.

My total winnings are 28 million credits and I've spent 26 million just on upgrades, so you can imagine how much I've spent on cars[probably half billion].

Conclusion: If I hadn't done the glitch I'd need to grind the ever loving HELL out of the game.

Really don't care for your condescending statement here. I am 48 and yes, jobless. Its called disability, and nothing I can do about it as far as getting a job.

And yes, I grind, but not specifically for money. Its called practice, the money is just an added bonus. ;) Next time try not being so ignorant with your statements.

Phew, I'm betting that person was not a GT veteran.
Saying that a lot of games are doing it I play CSR racing on my phone & you can buy 25k cr for Aus $4. I do 2x 9sec runs in my porsche & net 32k cr!
Its just a trap for young/niave players

I played GT5 form day one until christmas 2013. Not concerned if I do not have every car after 2 months.

I have CD,s and do not

GTLeigh, I agree with you on a lot of your points, but you do say that you log in avery day, for your bonus. If there was no bonus present, you WOULD be short on cash, no? In which case, you would need to grind. I think the bonus is put in to lighten the grinding. And PD acknowledges, that it is there. The grind, i mean.

It depends , in my opinion on how you define grinding. To me grinding is winning the same race, in the same car over and over again simply to win credits.
My aim whenever a new version of GT is released is to win as many DIFFERENT races as possible in as many different cars as possible.I don't consider this to be grinding.

Yeah, a whopping 70 hours--about 45 minutes per day since the release.

Edit: It takes 73 hours to grind 500,000,000. The game has been out 85 days. That's 51:30 minutes per day. Of course, RedBull Standard did not join us until January.
