To grind or not to grind, that is the question

Grinding or testing...testing while grinding...grinding while testing:
1. Grinding - running races over and over to get them credits.
2. Testing - tuning a new/readjusted car on the test track with no interference.
3. Testing while grinding - tuning + testing + opponents + credits.
4. Grinding while testing - running races over and over + tweaking a tune + opponents + credits.

...this has worked for me through the series...

Well after i completed the game i usually grind to buy rhe cars that i want and then tunning, racing 4 fun...

A lot of good points have been made in this thread, however I disagree with the sentiment that once a race has been gold that it is time to move on. These races are enjoyable to do again, this is not grinding but enjoying the driving of the cars available.

This would only hold true *IF* the AI in this Beta release was not broken :-(

How can anyone here actually say they enjoy doing any of the races in the offline game when the AI cars just change line and just try to smash you off the track all the time? Or slow down to allow you to catch up?

The AI in GT 5 was many magnitudes better. And the races I used to love repeating were the ones where when you turned the PP down on your car to win more money and the real challenge was to see how far you could go and still beat the AI.

Sorry but no one will convince me there is anything enjoyable about redoing any of the races in this game :-(

I haven't even mentioned how there are no penalties and you can cheat as much as you want either. Nah! The "Real driving simulator" is badly broken in this Beta incarnation and the whole joke of game is just a pathetic arcade fiasco :-(

The only slight entertainment I have found with the grinding now is by how much I can cheat in the RB standard challenge and win by. Like how early can I ricochet to the lead and by how much I can cut corners by to win by the biggest margin possible. Like Mt Fuji and GP-F I am first at first corner. Silverstone all the corners I can cut and my biggest winning margin is about 36secs.

My only regret is that I didn't do the money glitch before it was patched :-( I had this (ridiculous - in hindsight) notion at the time that I would do the game legitimately and not cheat to get my Platinum (which only took a week except Autobarmy)

Grinding is not fun, this game is enjoyable offline and only barely tolerable online.

*IF* the GT5 servers were not being shut down I would be suggesting to all my colleagues that we return to GT5.

Thanks to the money glitch, by which I got most cars I want, so I don't do pure grinding.

I do repeat several events I like, but with different cars. I test and tune them before the races, and it seems I spend very much of the time in free running.

Prolly like most I grind or redo races to gain more credits to buy more cars...for me I like buying and upgrading different cars then tuning them then using them to redo races or simply run lap after lap to learn tracks or time attacks...it is a driving game so it kinda makes sense that you have to run races multiple times to earn...

Totally agree, I find it very strange that people moan and complain about driving in a driving game. In fact it's so totally bizarre that it could be a joke on Family Guy or American Dad.

First, the AI is not good, we all know that, PD knows that but it is not as bad as you are making out. I have run races that I have lost and they were very difficult races and the leading AI did NOT stop and wait for me to catch up, just don't expect a challenge if you pick the best car available. This has always been the case with GT, pick the best car available and its and easy win, pick a lower spec car and it can be quite difficult. GT1 to GT6 have always been like this and I expect GT7 to be the same also.

If the AI was so bad then surely no-one would have struggled with the shifter karts.

Also, I have never been rammed off road by the AI, I try to race as clean as possible and never has the AI deliberately smashed into me, if this happens to you I suggest that it was a bad manoeuvre by you and you did not give the other car the space you should have, or tried overtaking on a corner that you shouldn't have.

Lastly, if cheating and taking shortcuts are the only thing that you enjoy then I suspect that a driving game just is not for you. Why not try to master the track and car instead of taking off road shortcuts?

I am thinking of going back to GT5 even if it shuts down in may.

Hmmmm, I was actually thinking that. At least it's more stable and ride height/camber physics are sound so more parameters to work with suspension tuning.

Back to topic, to find the right amount of challenge is to go with cars one less category, one less tyre and about 50PP less. Like GT300 on InterA race it with stock Yellowbird on SS tyres. I felt the challenge to be just right, I won it with 0.045s margin after spun 3 times:P

There is a significant difference between "Driving" and "Grinding". I will credit you with the intelligence to make this very poignant differentiation.

Oh but it really is ;-)

The two races that spring to mind that show how bad the deliberate ramming by the AI are the GT40 race at The Ring and the NASCAR race at Daytona night time. Every time I was in the lead the AI car(s) would catch up and just smash me off the track. Fact: this also happened to numerous other people here as well.

If the AI was so bad then surely no-one would have struggled with the shifter karts.?

Again bad AI and the only Shifter Kart I struggled with was the indoor stadium GT Track.

Come on now? I really think you are stretching the truth here. Also I have had the AI ram me while I am on a straight minding my own business! e.g NASCAR and GT40 Race

Lastly, if cheating and taking shortcuts are the only thing that you enjoy then I suspect that a driving game just is not for you. Why not try to master the track and car instead of taking off road shortcuts?
I have, that's the problem I am trying to explain to you.

 I've been doing the similar things. My new favorites are 15-lap Brands Hatch and 10-lap Ascari :D

Cars like Elise in the battle with GT racers in Brands Hatch, cars like Fiat 500 in the battle with super/hyper cars in Ascari are so much fun. 👍

I enjoy winning using the best lines and beating the AI when I can, and I do feel the accomplishment. But there are a few races that just don't work for me. On those I pick the best car I can find to give myself the best chance at winning. If that's not enough, as it is with some races I have yet to gold, I will find any way I can to win . . . until I get frustrated and give up for the day.

I do grind a little, but usually switch cars using Route X. Lately I have been using the RB standard event and actually golded the championship for the first time. I golded 3 of the 5 races, earned second on one and was 10th on another. The race I came in second I made one mistake that cost me the win. On the one in 10th place I kept making mistakes that I couldn't recover from. I won by only 20 points over the second place AI driver.

I have been driving for fun at Laguna Seca. Picking a different car (that I could potentially buy in real life) and taking a few laps to see which car is the most fun. So the cars don't cost much and I'm not tuning any of them.

In GT5 once I had all the cars I had any interest in (1300+ with many repeats) I stopped driving. Mostly due to having to set up the driving controller in the living room at the time. Now I have a second system in my office that remains set up. Now it's much easier to turn the system on and run a race or two to keep the 200% bonus and turn it back off. Leaving any challenges for the weekend when I have more time.

:)

I want to race for fun while earning *decent* credits at the same time, but I don't think this is possible in GT6. As far as I know, the most generous payouts are with the Red Bull Challenge events which force you to use the Red Bull cars and no others (not that you could ever beat the fan cars with anything else). Other events which do let you enter different cars can be more fun, but they don't pay very much. So I can't use different cars for fun and variety while still earning decent credits. So I understand and agree with the term "grinding" for credits.

Grinding for cash when I need it quickly because I am inspired and want a certain car right away, I do the RedBull Jr series. it takes a short amount of time and I make over a million credits.

I purchase a number of cars to customize so I can be grinding with them just re-running races and enjoying them in video replay and taking photos for photomode.

Finally if I want to tune cars and see how quick I can be, I challenge myself by running against quicker class cars. While I am racing and getting the car to a perfect state of tune, I am winning credits and adding to my bank account.

Three different ways to make cash that are entertaining to me and take away the boring repetition associated to grinding.

There's no question for me, I've officially retired from grinding!
Yeah, me too. Though I have been busy testing out the LMPs on the 24min races - I guess that is grinding, but getting something worthwhile out of it thats more than 500,000-600,000Cr.👍 (Stock Deltawing on RHs anyone?!)
