We now have a Tourist Trophy forum, this thread should be moved there.

A dedicated forum listed in the GT section- thankyou once again kind moderators! It’s my view that the high visibility of the TT forum will begin to attract new members seeking info on PD’s latest, and that we can look forward to a thriving TT community within GTP.

Edit:
For those who remember the wait for GT4- discussion of the Tomahawk is banned.

I just quickly log onto GTP to kill a few minutes before CSI comes on, and I see this???? OMGWTF!!!!!!11

Sorry, but I think I've wet myself. This game is going to be awsome, especially if they more or less just port GT4 tracks into Tourist Trophy (NURBURGRING!!!!!)

I also especially hope the have a 1st person view, where you basically view from the rider's perspective. 200mph would look way too awsome from this perspective!

My excitement about this game is very very high, but its also highly variable depending on how many bikes are on track... Thats gonna be the clincher for me, there has to be more than 6 for it to feel cool, considering the fast pace that bikes can change positions during a race compared to cars.

I wouldn't count on more than 6 riders for the PS2; it's a pretty old system, and it's already being pushed to it's limits. The PS3 on the other hand should be able to handle at least 6 or 7 times the number of riders with no problems, assuming an equal level of graphical complexity. This is just an educated guess, obviously.

And besides, if the AI is on the same level as GT4, I certainly wouldn't want to be riding around with a large number of them!

For the sake of mankind, they better include the actual Tourist Trophy track, the Isle of Man...

I'll second that motion.

My own lap record for the I.O.M. TT circuit is about 2hour 32minutes
- in a Ford Orion diesel (not even TD!) - i'm sure i could have shaved a few 'tenths' off this time if i didn't have my grand parents in the car ;)

Nice one cracker. I don't think I'd ever be able to take relatives round - I'd get too much badgering about how dangerous it is. ;)

After playing the TT Superbike game it would be great to have the TT track. TTS isn't all that hot on GFX or SFX. The track is about spot on, and the trackside detail is accurate, if a little sparse. But the engine noises for most of the bikes sounds like it's been done on an 80s synthesizer.

wow, just noticed this thread today. definately cant wait for this even tho im not much into bike games, this one looks like a lot of fun.

Also, if you think a 9R is a lardy old bus you might want to look for the vid that shows one being ridden around a euro city centre, in rush hour. Sliding up to traffic lights, wheelies, filtering through gaps that look smaller than the bike. Excellent vid. :sly:
Yeh I know the vid its fun to watch. But i think the streets aren't very clean because he is sliding to easy.
I found the video on my hdd its 22mb in size. I've uploaded it so feel free to dl.
Here is the link. Site is in german. You've got to wait a few seconds and then use the upper link.

That vid is pretty crazy, the gaps he gets through and all the sliding even at speed while leaning into corners wow!

T5-R
wonder if they'll ever fall off the bikes... :sly:

i was just asking myself the same question, sure is the 1st thing i'll try if i buy the game lol
wouldn't surprise me tho if you can just go on after hitting the wall or an opponent
since there's no damage in gt4 either...

and I found this too somewhere:

The final game will include bikes from Japan and Europe, as well as classic bikes from the 80s. The game will, however, remain in the modern day with 70% of the included bikes from the 90s to present day. So far only two of the tracks to feature in the game have been revealed: Tsukuba and Fuji Raceway. Although these tracks are in Gran Turismo, the game will feature lots of tracks not seen in the GT series.

The game's controls will be immediately familiar to anyone who has played Gran Turismo, with the Dual Shock's analogue face buttons being used to control the throttle and break. Unlike in Gran Turismo, an on-screen display will be available to show you exactly how hard you are pressing the buttons. For those that want to play the game with extreme realism there'll also be an advanced driving set-up where you must also control your rider's position on the bike, allowing him to achieve top speed.

I've been totally blind for this thread, but now it just popped into my eyes and what I see? Good lord I gotta get the game! I don't like bikes that much, they don't have the crucial two more wheels in my opinion, but this seems like :ill:  MAD!!! The main reason why I want the game is that, well first of all, it's made by PD. Then second, it's like GT4, only it's on two wheels. And if they included Nürburgring... that would be something. And the Isle of Man too... Oh gosh... Then I have one bike wish (I know, there's an own thread for these but I don't want to post a post cause of this): MV Augusta F4 1000 Tamburini. That bike might be the only bike I'd buy ever in my life... and it's fast!

Well the Tamburini is a great bike, and when we're talking of bikes in that price class i would like to see the Ducati Desmoseidici, 200 HP would rock on the isle of man. But a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 K5 would be enough.

pages and pages i missed....

ok so i am behind here but i still have a question.

first up. looks friggin fan-bloody-tabulous :)

now bout the physics. I havent actually ridden a motorbike myself but I am a vaid mountain biker and I know from my 2 wheeled pursuit that steering is not just turning the handlebars. a considerable amount of steering involves leaning the bike into corners.
how are they going to fit that into the game? I dont know if they will personally and it will detract from the realism.
so tho its a pretty game, i'll probably not buy it... unless the above problem has been adressed already in a previous post that is. :)

I don't think it's been brought up - good point though.

To ride a motorbike around a corner at anything but low speed you use a technique called "countersteering". Even if you ride a bike and are now thinking "no I don't!" you still use it. Trust me. I believe the same can be done on mountain bikes / pedal cycles given enough speed, although I've never consciously done it myself.

What happens is that to turn left you push the left handlebar away from you and pull on the right handlebar. It may sound wrong, but that's why it's called "countersteering". The harder you push the faster the bike will lean over. To pick it back up again you do the opposite. Whether this is done consciously or unconsciously it's how bikes go round corners above walking pace. There will be many articles on why this is the case - I'm not going to rehash them here.

How this will translate to a game controller I don't know. The controller would have to model the rotation of the handlebars and be sensitive to the amount of effort the player is using. When riding a bike it doesn't feel like the bars are rotating much at all (to me).

The closest thing to this I've used is those Sega Manx TT arcades with the sit-on leaning bikes. To turn left you lean to the left, which makes you push on the left bar and pull on the right. However, the force you put in is due to you leaning, whereas it seems to be the other way round in real life. You push and then you lean because of it.

I have no idea how they would translate that to a game, so I'm assuming it'll be the standard analogue method of "the further you push the stick the further the rider will lean".

hmmm

GT4 with bikes ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍

hmmm

wait dont all bike games suck? 👎

hmmm

it'll give me a chance to get educated with bikes and learn to apreceiate them 👍

hmmm

but how will we be able to convert our skills to two wheels....... :indiff:

hmmm

first person views suck on bikes games coz there too hard to control...and with gt handling thrown in........... :nervous:

hmmm

however if they use the same tracks we know and love............ :sly:

hmmm

but then it would be a cheap cash in and not much fun.... :grumpy:

hmmm

as for no. of bikes on at one time - 8max 👎

💡 simple - dont but the game - your bound to be dissapointed, however it dont matter what i beleive coz we are all gonna buy the game - even me :sly:

Well what should i say, i will buy it if it will be released in europe. I don't care how they will convert the controlling, it's their job to do that. But if no one will buy the game, it will be the first and last "Gran Turismo with Bikes" and this would be a pity. So i'll support them to make a second that will be better and so on.

I'll at least give it a chance and probably buy it. And I'll learn more about bikes. This can't be a bad game if they include nurburgring. So I hope they release it in NA

I´m pretty sure this will be released worldwide. Sony know this game has a lot of potential to become a great series, just like Gran Turismo did.

Prior to GT2 I didn’t have a car licence. Bikes were my exclusive form of transport, as I was of the opinion that cars were uninspiring commuting machines. As I played GT2, I began to gain an interest in four wheels. I sold one of my beloved bikes (ZZR 600), went for my car licence and purchased my first car. If I had access to GT for bikes back in the old days, I would have missed out on discovering and investigating the world of cars. Be wary of TT- you might just find yourself selling off a car…:D

There's a few good bikes games actually. SBK2000 & 2001 and GP500 for the PC are the 3 that stand out above the rest.
Onbike view does NOT suck in every bike game. In the SBK series it was actually very well done.
Regarding how counterseteering will work with the controller and in the game....I hope they don't try to put it in. It might just be a bit too 'over the top' seeing as how we don't have an actual bike to lean after the countersteering input is done. But, we do use countersteering when we are controlling our 1/5 scale RC bikes so I guess I could get used to it on the DS2 after a bit. ( A quick bit of countersteering to tip it in then standard steering comes into play along with the right wrist. :)
I hope they get the feeling of weight of the bike and rider good. When shifting quickly from right to left or left to right in a chicane...if it flips back and forth like the motogp series (ps2 or xbox versions) I will be bummed.
The gyroscopic effect of the wheels naturally want to keep a bike upright and it is a concious effort to get it to turn, not just turning the wheel and slamming on the brakes, then mash the gas out of the corner.
A lot of car racers have a hard time with bikes until they've kept at it for a while just because it takes a totally differnet approach to every corner. you actually have to plan further ahead.
I hope the sensitivity of the DS2, or the lack thereof, won't make the high horsepower bikes just spin up the rear. Anybody know of a PS2 controller with triggers instead of buttons?

Blah blah blah...I hopes it good...and fun 👍

good points there 👍

yeah i know what u mean 'bout the bikes quiickly changing direction (as in moto gp2)

it looks terrible in reply and is unrealistic- i dont think a superbike could handle being thrown left and right quickly somehow, you'll would prob fall off

- which raises another question - will the rider be able to fall off the bikes? or will there be damage modelling in this game? it would be a good game to experiment with damage before the likes of gt5.

im not convinced this game will be a hit not atall.

generally speaking people who r used to 4 wheel games r crap at 2 wheels - me included- it would be nice to have a crack at it though

- however i think damage needs to be addressed- as its one thing to hit a wall with 4 wheels and stop- but quite another matter with just two. It just seems like one of the many cheap cash in games from whateverhisnameis-san before the wake of his main game- still worth a shot eh?

Now if you tell me this people are all playing in Lan mode I would be really happy.

4 bikes on track, but I hope there´s more.

Good news here:
"Gran Turismo doesn't deal with wipeouts and crashes, but Tourist Trophy sure does. It's easy to make your bike lean too far and flip out, with the game switching to a third-person perspective as your bike and biker tumble into the barriers."
here:
"The game will include over 80 bikes from domestic and international bike makers. Over thirty-five courses will make the cut, "
and interesting things here I cna't wait to test:
"Tourist Trophy World's Form Editor allow you to make fine adjustments to eight areas of your form, including seat position, knee angle, underarm angle and waist offset. Form adjustments aren't just for show, as the game simulates your rider's center of gravity, changing the feel of the race based on your form."
