I hate FIFA, hate UEFA, I hate Platini and I hate Blatter.

I now really want England to win this tournament as a big 🤬 you to all of them.

Yeah. With an offside pass, leading up to a penalty given for nothing, with a goal where the ball doesn't pass the line.

A few of my thoughts on euro 2012 at the moment..

1) This has been a fantastic tournament so far..there wasnt a single 0-0 in the group stage..and theres been surprises like holland crashing out with zero points and greece and czech rep. making it through after not playing well in theyre first games (the czechs espicailly!)

2) Why are everyone saying that england have exceded sxpectations when they WERE expected to make it past the group stage??

3) I wonder if angela merkel will be at the germany-greece game!?:P

I don't think many people expected us to win the group. New manager a few weeks prior to the tournament, a couple key players being injured etc.

Probably not, since Merkel and various others are presumably still boycotting the games due to the Yulia Tymoshenko affair...

True, although as it turns out, they've got a very tough route to the final no matter how they qualified.

I don't think England have actually played or been any better than in previous tournaments where they've been sent packing, but they do have a fairly decent core of players who, on their day, can play very well - although for me, Steven Gerrard is the key player.

I don't think England will beat Italy, though - and, even if they do, and do on to play Germany, I think Germany would win that at a canter.

But never let it be said that we Scots are a bunch of xenophobic England haters... I want to see England win, and if they can beat Italy, Germany and Spain in doing so, then they'd be deserved champions. But, as a realist, I doubt very much that it will happen. Still, it might just be worth a £5 bet ;)

Well, the problem with Holland are the big ego's at the moment. There are actually 4 players who think they are more important than the other 19. And those are van Persie, Robben, Sneijder, van der Vaart. It wasn't a team, which is a problem. They didn't work for each other. Van Persie had a great season at Arsenal, Huntelaar had a great season at Schalke 04. Huntelaar couldn't accept he was bench sitter and van Persie didn't want to play next to him. Robben was only busy with playing on his own, running with eye-caps on and shooting in the second ring of the stadiums. Huntelaar seemed to piss off people in the hotel, and they told him to stop or he would be thrown out of the hotel. Also it seems that Heitinga leaked stuff to his wife, about trainings and stuff, she is part of a show in Holland. And making van Bommel captain was a big mistake too.

I honestly think that they should make Sneijder the captain, just because of his status. He won the most prizes, compared to the other Dutch players, and the players who don't accept that should leave the squad, also his attitude is how a captain should act towards the press etc. It's time for a change.

And in comparison to 2 years ago, and as tradition, they were disagreeing and fighting with each other. It turns out that van der Vaart was closing to being kicked out of the squad.
Huntelaar told the group several times that he should be the main striker. Not van Persie.

Yeay, just like always.

I really don't rate France, apart from Benzema, Nasri an the somewhat overrated Ribery they don't really have any world class players. Newcastle players and Chelsea benchwarmers mixed in with a few decent players.

England also had no Rooney for 2 games. :sly:

Also, Rooney wasn't exactly on fire was he, on that Ukraine game?

In fact, he looked out of match practice and pretty average. I don't think he's highly rated for playing at the moment.

I don't follow football at all, but I got the impression that he should be far better than he was, to judge by the impression of his capabilities from supporters.

Personally, other teams have played better than England so I am not rating England's chances that highly.

Agreed. Front page of the Sun - Rooney's hair gel. It's quite phenomenal how highly rated he is.

... Really? I don't buy or read that rag at all and that's pretty shocking if they were talking about that.

Shows that his abilities were pretty poor then.

You can't really argue with Rooneys club form, he is a brilliant player. He just doesn't do it for England much. There's quite a few players in the England squad who play well for their clubs but not so much for country. As long as he keeps playing well for UTD, the media will big him up for International games. I'd love for him to score every game for us, but it's not likely.

Some stats..

According to the stats from Prozone statistics England have been the second most effective team at Euro 2012 when it comes to time in possession per goal. Roy Hodgson's side have scored a goal every 17.15 minutes, second only to Portugal.

I think england CAN beat italy, as whilst italy have a good team they are nothing special and havnt set the tournament alight..neither have england i admit but i really think england can go through..

Hey i think the czechs have got a good chance tonight as well!..everyone tipping the portuguese but the czechs have got a good team as well..could be close tonight!

Czech Rep. v Portugal.

Cech will probably have another shocker tonight. Portugal should run riot to be honest. 0-3, possibly with a Ronaldo hat-trick depending on all different kinds of factors. But I bet you he'll be there for at least one.

I'm also with C-Zeta, i think Group A was the poorest of all the groups, and don't expect either team from it to progress.

That's the thing with players like Rooney.

With clubs, they do play extremely well.

But with the International games, something seems to be missing. He just looks ordinary at times, rather than the lightening fast players that people know he can be or whatever.

I don't know if it is because they cannot gel with different players in the England team or they are used to the backups that they get from their own club players but it kinda highlights that they aren't really that great if they cannot change their style to suit the team and take advantage of it.

I just hope its not about money

I just wonder if they are like journeymen of football, selling their services for the highest bidder but not for pride. It kinda seems like that sometimes when they don't quite show their club form.

For example, Ronaldo from Portugal missed quite a few chances of goals, but at least he was actively making them and making good plays and so on.

However, I will say that International football can be a harder game as the players can be playing alongside players that they may not know as well and against teams that may have a lot of talent and high workrate to tire them out.

Which reminds me, a commentator was telling the viewer to expect the players to conserve their energy as they would get tired legs. That struck me as odd, these guys are professional players. They are PAID (highly) to keep running and have extreme endurance and be able to run the other team ragged. And while controlling a small ball with the aim of getting it in the goal.

Just struck me as odd.

Great save by cech! most exciting thing thats happened in this game so far!!

I'm so rooting for the Czech today. I just don't like Ronaldo and the rest of his team, at all. I'm quite pleased with how the game's been coming along so far.

I'm also backing the Czechs again. Never been a fan of Portugal, and the Czechs are a team that I've wanted to do well in this tournament, plus I feel they can win this match.

Penalty claim by Portugal. My call is it isn't a penalty because he slipped.
Ronaldo hit the post.
