I'm not even big on Soccer, I just don't like Portugal or Italy. If you say Spain is like that too, I can easily take your word for it.... but since I knew about Portgual's notorious ways before this, I'd still rather Spain win between the two teams.

When soccer players fake an injury, what's the thing they usually do? Plop onto the ground. That's diving in a nutshell..... or grass in this case.

In this game Spain steals a penalty that obviously the ref didnt see (cant find the video on youtube) Portugal gets a free kick and some defence stops the ball from hiting his face with his arms in the barrier... Oh yeah the ref was so good that he even gave a yellow card by intuation . Meaning he wasnt even watching and gave a yellow card 👎 (another dive by Spain).

This Euro is fake since the beginning. Spain is getting lots of help.

Remember what Platinni said: The final will be Spain vs Germany. The president of UEFA said that. I have nothing more to add.

Italy will never win today.

Ronaldo is the worst player there is and Messi is the best with no dives and all fair play 👎:

Dont get me wrong, Messi is a great player but not exactly what people say. Hes also a one of the best divers i have seen, cheater and provocative.

Messi/Spain/Barcelona?!

No thanks

How did this become about Messi?

Portugal is out, and that's it, diving or no diving.
And don't turn this into a conspiracy now, the referees haven't exactly been the best through out this tournament.

I'm betting Germany will win, but i'm hoping Italy go through.

We know Spain dive as well, just Portugal are the worst for it. Everyone dives, except Germany.

Don't see how they can fix penalties.

Busquets was the one who used his arms to "protect" his face kinda, most referees don't give penalties for this. Some referees do some don't. I think you have it about Fábio Coentrão who been given the yellow card? If that's the case it's the right decision from the referee, he made a gesture towards a Spanish player, which shouldn't be tolerated whatsoever. I won't explain what the gesture means

Fábio Coentrão's gesture:

This person should be replaced as soon as possible:

You guys are almost funny when ranting about Portugal. The truth is people only see what they want to see. Did you even saw the same game that i did? Spain players dont dive and didnt dive in this game huh?!

Apparently the truth is that people only read what they want to read.

Both sets of players are a little easily felled, but the Portuguese players are getting ridiculous. The referee, early on, was pandering to them too much and giving non-existant free kicks against the Spanish. He's now being over the top and doling out the cards he should have given earlier on to prevent this.

Incidentally, the last time I checked Messi played for Argentina and they didn't qualify for Euro 2012, by virtue of not being in Europe.

I think someone might be a tad annoyed their country was knocked out. Oh dear.

I didn't see the whole match, but from what I saw and from what I read on here Spain deserved to go through. And only 1 guy disagrees.....who is from Portugal.

As for diving every single team does it these days, sadly its become as much of a part of football as scoring goals. Some teams do it more than others, and last night Portugal did do it a lot. And also all the way through the tournament, particularly Nani.
That coupled with the sheer arrogance and vanity of a couple of their players means a lot of people don't like them.

It's crazy how much English (and Dutch) fans constantly hate on Portugal.
:sly::sly::sly:

Every reason that people who hate football hate football for is embodied by this Portuguese team - and no single player moreso than Ronaldo.

Except maybe Pepe.

Actually that would be Barcelona and majority of Spain is filled with Barcelona. You only need to watch Busquets play for a bit to see diving antics.

Rondaldo, when younger, used to dive like a ballerina. He doesn't do that anymore because he hated being called out on it. If he goes down for club or country you can be assured that 99% of the time it's because he got clipped or hit. I loved how at the bar I was at one of the Spanish fans was going crazy the first time CRON got fouled bad in the game and called it a huge dive. Then the replay showed clear as day contact :dopey:
Typical hate on one of the world's best players who just so happens to be an attractive guy slayin women like it's his job. lol

Portugal couldn't play their game, they never got the chance to take control and only had a few big chances at scoring. Postiga was surely missed in my book because Hugo Almeida is good for a tougher side like Germany. Portugal mostly played to counter Spain's/Barcelona's possession and tic tac passing game. Which for me sucked. I mean Spain didn't start Fabregras nor Pedro, didn't play Torres, didn't play Llorente and was almost like they were planning to win just 1-0 or go to PKs. Hate this Barca tic tac possession game though... Still, some chances by both sides, no better team won. It went to PKs and PKs for me is a coin toss.
Either Spain or Portugal was my choice who'd win the Euro. Now it's all about Spain if I were putting my money on someone but to be honest I don't really care who wins now.

btw Varela is a winger, not a striker. He's always playing LW and RW for my Porto

Well obviously you were watching the wrong game, because Ronaldo went down so many times last night it was like he was trying to qualify for the Olympics. I actually went into watching the game under the impression he had (mostly) curbed his theatrics, but it's actually gotten worse, and it was there for everyone to see.

No-one's targeting or 'hating' on Portugal, they are a good team, but yesterday was just ridiculous. Sure, Spain aren't exactly angels either, but they were nowhere near as bad.

It didn't matter which team went through anyway, I couldn't see any of them being able to beat Germany, especially judging by last night's performance.

Portugal almost beat Germany in the 1st group stage match. Given another go, I had full faith that Portugal would beat Germany, even if in the final.

Spain will win. Their tic tac Barca style tactic, will sadly win over Germany.

And no, I wasn't seeing theatrics all game long, just another Brit hatin on Portugal ;)

The only thing that's crazy is the Portuguese fans reluctance to admit that their team was outplayed for the entire duration of extra time and dived far more than Spain.

There is a reason why Portugal are generally disliked and that's their diving. Blind defence by the Portuguese fans doesn't help either. When England lost pretty much everyone agreed they were outplayed and Italy deserved to go through. I didn't see any English fans accuse anyone of "hatin" on them becasue they just accepted that England are worse than Italy.

The Brits were neutral, you weren't. Doesn't that say something ?

Spain and Portugal both are diving master teams.

But picking out Portugal is because of Ronaldo. And because of Horde.

Don't forget Nani and Pepe !

And those two.

If Portugal ever comes to the Netherlands to play a friendly game, I'll round up as many people as I can, and then everyone takes diving goggles and flippers with them!

I actually watched my first EURO game ever in full length yesterday with Spain and Portugal. I found it sort of funny that one Portuguese player completed a hat trick of sending a ball deep into the stands. I guess its just me though.

No, just football fans.

We only needed to watch Portugal for a bit last night. The referee caused some of it by pandering to them originally.

Bwahaha.

Last night there was a fun bit of shoulder to shoulder action between Ronaldo and... whomever, like there usually is with Ronaldo. Eventually Ronaldo fell over, being beaten at his own game and rolled onto his knees to look at the referee for the free kick.

Nothing happened. Ronaldo's response? To fall over onto his front like he'd died.

He's a disgrace. Moreso because he's so ludicrously talented - he doesn't need to play this stupid game of feigning injury.

Also:

Typical hate on one of the world's best players who just so happens to be an attractive guy slayin women like it's his job. lol

Yeah, he gets women because girls like a guy guaranteed to go down on them.

I saw that too. Although it wasn't just Ronaldo that was diving. Virtually every player on the pitch was diving. Also, when Ronaldo came to Man Utd, he didn't dive as much because Sir Alex doesn't tolerate it but as soon as he went to Madrid, he was back to his old ways. I think this is partly down to Real as they teach there players how to dive and not be seen.

I pointed out the facts for the reason that everyone said: "Spain was the better team and im glad they went throught."

Portugal played better and didnt let them play their game (tici taca) for the whole 90 min. Obviously after that we were not at the same level because physically we were weaker. The next 30 min they were better for sure. They lost 1 penalty and we lost 2. Spain was not the better team. Vicente del bosque and the spanish players (like the Portuguese team) stated those facts. Everybody knows that they were lucky because was luck that let them win at the penaltys yesterday.

You haters are funny . I knew you were a hater too Famine, but not at that point. You really love it.

Strangely those haters are the ones that always lose to Portugal. Dont be so frustated. I am not because i know my team was world class.

I don't know about that, he did dive a lot at United. It was Ramos who out muscled Ronlado and after that it seemed the Portuguese succumbed to the Spanish passing.

Fair enough, Portugal deserve credit for pressing the Spaniards and not sitting back. Don't see how Spain weren't the better team though ? Yes, penalties aren't really fair but they played better throughout the 120 minutes.

Also if Ronaldo hadn't been such a bell end and stepped up to take the 4th penalty, instead of a centre back, we might not be reading elaborate Messi conspiracies but rather joyous Portuguese fans saying how their team is the best in Europe.

Can't recall Wales ever losing to Portugal. :sly:

Too bad Portugal never wins anything.

I'll bet the first tournament after Ronaldo resigns for the Portugal squad, they win.

I didnt say that. You hate Ronaldo so much that you only are happy that Portugal went down for that reason only and dont see the facts. Vicent Del bosque and Paulo Bento stated that yesterday. We were a bit better in the 90 min, they were better in the next 30 and won in penaltys.

That said im very happy with my team.

Not really. Try reading back a few pages though:

Famine
The big problem I have with this match is that I want both teams to lose. Germany because they're Germany and Portugal because they're still, largely, the disgrace that Ronaldo is. I really liked Portugal back in the day - before Figo's ego overtook him, Vitor Baia, the three Pintos (two Joaos, one Sa) and Rui Costa - but this bunch annoy me.

I like football, but when people who don't tell me why they don't I can completely understand it when I watch a side like the Portugal team last night - they literally embodied every reason that people who hate football hate football for.

So no, I don't "love it" at all. It annoys the crap out of me that anyone thinks it's acceptable and defends - even supports - it.

I've never lost to Portugal.

Sports fans are all the same. Soccer fans like to ignore and pretend that it's okay for the players to flop around like they got shot at the slightest contact, and hockey fans like to pretend there's no issue with concussions in the NHL.

It doesn't just go away if you just brush it under the rug. It also doesn't make it okay for Ronaldo to pretend he got shot yesterday just because some of the Spanish players embellished too. It just makes everyone look bad.

No, I've never played Portugal. I'm not sure why I'd have to play and lose to Portugal at football (nor whether they're willing) to hate their current style of "play".

However, if you're wanting to imply a sentiment based on nationality, you're going to have a(nother) problem when it comes to the AUP.

Yes and no. No we don't like to ignore it and pretend it's okay - it's disgraceful and it's exactly why people who hate the sport do so. But yes to your second paragraph.
