Well, I guess those of us in the US have officially been screwed by BBC Worldwide. All episodes of Top Gear (usually in ten minute segments) have been shutdown by BBC due to copyright stuffs. Granted it's true, but It's TV, it's free anyway. It's BS, too, 'cause the US has to weight until 2015 to get Season 15 or pay some stupid site to watch it.

It's not free though. Over in the UK we have to pay TV License to watch BBC so technically it isn't. You guys, (as far as I'm aware) don't have to pay to watch TopGear on Youtube, or any other streams or torrents or whatever.

Edit: Tree'd quite considerably.

That episode was terrible. Entirely predictable with the "challenge" and I really don't find it funny that James is always getting lost all the time. The muscle car thing was pointless because it was a couple minutes and they didn't really do anything. Guess you can't have gold all the time.

I've figured it out. Someone always posts the first part of the episode and then there's a couple guys who essentially pick it up from there, and you can usually watch the first part and then the rest from someone else. So, I was, eventually, able to watch the whole thing. Not the most entertaining episode, but I do agree, that I would rather have the Maserati...and probably the Camaro.

I saw the episode before it was shutdown. It wasn't the most entertaining episode, but I still liked it. The Camaro vs merc test was a bit odd, but a pretty coll comparison, even though they are 2 completely different cars. For the challenge, I'd probably go with the Panamera Turbo. It doesn't look that bad, and there's no denying its wicked fast.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen it, here's Ruben's interview and extrodinary lap.

Edit: just noticed that the video is mirrored (you'll see what I mean when the lap strarts).

I love the way he wasn't at all interested when Jeremy was writing down his time....

[/sarcasm]

What was I attempting to save?

You've been one of the most critical about the show. Not the most critical because you are a valuable member with well written and well thought out posts, but certainly one of the most critical and even most persistent, I daresay.

In the post in question, you beat up the old horse with the same arguments you have used to write off entire seasons. Yet, you end it with a slightly sardonic remark, as if to maintain the validity of the post. I'm not sure you meant it, it just sounds as if you will give up on the series, but not without torturing yourself through a few seasons.

You've been here what a month? I'm so glad you know the ins and outs of my postings. And I wrote off one episode of this season, so that makes me a Top Gear hater?

There are several Top Gear episodes I like and I'm rather entertained by.

GTP is getting too aggresive lately, all he said was 'you can't have gold all the time' which sticks to his opinion, so there is no need to call him out on that, good episode though IM.

I agree - it is one thing to have an alternate opinion. It is quite another to criticise someone for voicing theirs.

For the record, I thought it was a poor episode and didn't even mind that I missed the end because of a phone call.

Rubens was easily the highlight, but the rest was forgettable.

On a lighter note... I really, really liked that Maserati.... The sound is music to my ears... 👍 Especially when the Stig gives it some stick in that business park :)

The muscle car feature was pretty pointless, wasn't it? A Camaro and a Benz? No comparison - two very different beasts in my mind. I love Top Gear don't get me wrong but the whole drifting thing seems really silly - who honestly has the money to ruin tyres like that?

^^^ True... that comparison also had me raising an eyebrow... Kind of pointless...

It raised a few eyebrows here as well initially, but I wouldn't say pointless.
I think the point was to showcase that whilst the US with their retro-styled new generation of muscle cars are clearly trying to get some of their glory-years back whilst still using the same basic formula the "true" modern muscle car war isn't fought between Ford, GM and Chrysler anymore but has become a battle between Audi, BMW and Mercedes with their willy-waving battle to put ever more powerful engines in their saloons over the recent years.

Although using much more advanced technology it still is the same silly/pointless/glorious battle the big three had in the sixties.
And that battle may already have had its high point with new regulations and shifting attitudes/priorities making these car probably just as irrelevant ( not to say I don't love them ) as the US muscle cars seemed in the mid-seventies or early eighties.

One ( the Camaro ) is a modern resurrection of a past dinosaur whilst the other ( Benz ) may actually be one of the last of the current breed.
So whilst the Camaro may appear to have outdated technology compared to the more advanced Benz, the Benz is actually the one outdated overall.
Or maybe I'm seeing far more into it than they intended and it really was an odd couple.........

^ Well said, that's pretty much my take on it too. The US lost their way with muscle cars for a while (save for a few honourable exceptions) but the Germans kind of picked up the baton for a while. Now the American makers are all making great muscle cars again but based on the greats of the past, it's interesting to compare the two.

As much as I agree with the sentiments above, I'd still cut off my right arm and sell my Grandmother for the Benz.

The Camaro is the only Muscle car available or due to be available in the UK. The Benz is the only comparable car sold in Europe. At least for that engine size.

Aren't the AMG's also sometimes called the "German muscle" cars? I mean, they pack so much power & torque, and sound like Spitfire's.

The lunacy of them isn't far from the idea for the Muscle Car that Hammond noted on.

I enjoyed this episode quite a bit more than the last one. My favorite, and the longest, part was the saloon challenge. The Camaro/E63 thing was decent. It was kind of pointless yet entertaining at the same time.

Rubens' interview was also pretty decent with what he had to say about being the #2 driver and all. The other interview was bad, but at least he put in a good lap.

I enjoyed it, though I haven't come across a TG episode that I haven't enjoyed. I didn't really understand why they would put a Camaro against an E63 AMG, but whatever. The Saloon bit was pretty good. I liked the interview with Rubens. I'm surprised he beat The Stig's time. I think Top Gear should have Sebastian Vettel on the F1 SIARPC segment.

EDIT: Warning noted, Daan. Sorry about that.

Makes sense... I wasnt really looking at it in that way... but I could see how the AMGs can be considered the European Muscle cars of today. 👍

True, but there's more than a few specialist dealers that can get a UK-converted Mustang to you. For a price.
