They've used the lap times for a long time, the studo is a copy yes, and copies will be done because TopGear get's the ratings.

Yep definitely one of the funniest Top Gears i've seen. The amphibious cars were hilarious! Richard's was genuinely impressive, Clarkson's was typical power and James' was typically slow.

I really was laughing my head off when Richard was going down and he starting making a cup of tea

I actually liked the idea of Richards the most, it just needed more power and more work on making it water tight.

Yes it was a shame that he damaged the prop on entry to the lake, and that he clearly had a whopping-great whole in the bottom of it. But it really looked like a narrow boat, so kudos to him.

It needed more power from the engine for road use and the prop needed to be protected in some way, perhaps have it done so it lowers after your in the water but all in all I did think his was the best idea, had it been done preossionaly.

Just like with the Mitsubishi Starion, Jeremy ruined another plan by his fixation on speed/powerrrrr-r-r-r-r*cough*, sorry there. :P
James made the right choice with the old trusty Triumph. It goes logical for me that since the concept of amphibian cars came from the 50's-60's a car from those years was the proper choice!! :D One thing certain, is ride was the less chaotic of the lot!!
As for the Exige S, boy oh boy!! Staggering acceleration! :dopey: And it works very efficiently to keep a simple driver in front of a professional driver at the wheel of a muscle car. I wonder if it comes in black... :sly:

Exige S I so much want that car, especially in white with black wheels its was so stunning, in looks and performance. The boat car idea was great and was better then the second episode, so far tho this season is great.

The Exige S vs Mustang GT was pretty unfair. I was surprised though that the Mustang wasn't too far behind.

The boat cars were hilarious! I love how JC flipped his Toybota right at the end!

As I said when it was being aired in the UK, the editing of the Exige S vs Mustang piece was terrible. The gap between the cars was changing by large margins every second. As always at Top Gear they didn't show the "action" for too long, going for "exciting" camera changes and whatever instead. As we all know, the Exige S would absolutely slaughter the Mustang at almost any track, they're just a huge mismatch in terms of performance.

edit: Again, this isn't intended to be American-bashing (or Ford-bashing), the cars just aren't at all matched. The Exige S is a track tool with low weight, and huge grip from its semi-slick tyres whereas the Mustang is a somewhat sanitised musclecar that wasn't designed to go to be at home on the track).

I did think that part was quite weak.

It was similair to what they are doing on this program called Vroom Vroom on Sky. They put a radical up against a 911, a M5 against a Noble and I think a caterham against a Murcielago. I was watching it and going, WTF that isn't fair at all.

Here is the highlights for the next Top Gear ep:

In the news this week...
BMW's Z4 M Coupe, Lexus's GS450h, Mercedes' C-Class Coupe, Richard shows us some naughty numberplates, Jeremy talks about his brush with royalty at Beckingham Palace, and some fool puts a bashed-up Peugeot on eBay.

BMW Z4 M Roadster v Porsche Boxster S
Richard takes the Porsche for a spin on the track, then gets to grips with BMW's new Z4 M Roadster. With a 3.2-litre V6 engine producing 338bhp and a 0-60mph time of five seconds, can the Z4 wipe the smug smile off the Boxster? If anyone can make it sweat it's the Stig, who gives it a good thrashing around the track.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo S v Red Devil
This week, Richard gets shipped off to Cyprus, along with a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. But he wasn't just there for the scenery, oh no - he was racing a flying squirrel. And not just any old squirrel either; this one was being dropped from a height of 10,000 feet. Confused? Watch the programme and it'll all become clear.

Mercedes S-Class
Jeremy indulges in a bit of luxury with the S-Class and it all looks very nice, apart from the interior. Jeremy thought the car should look more like his house and should have, er, house things in it, like a stone-flagged floor, lamps, a fireplace and some nice Wingback chairs, and that's exactly what it got.

Also this week...
There's always someone complaining that Top Gear never features any normal, practical cars and this week is no exception. The Caparo T1 is in the studio and with a 2.4-litre supercharged V8 firing out 480bhp, it's obviously a nice sensible motor and a snip at £150,000.

You may remember a few weeks ago the Stig crashed the Koenigsegg CCX spectacularly into a tyre wall. Well, now the Swedish manufacturer has stuck a rear wing on the car and the Stig shows us how 800bhp should really go around the track, while listening to his favourite language tape, of course.

This week's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is Ewan McGregor, who we knew was a big star because he was transported by a helicopter.

We get to see the CCX again, I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do with the extra downforce.

Ewan McGregor should be a good guest, he's a big petrol head and bike fan. I can see Jeremy and Ewan having a bit of a car vs bike battle. Don't know how handy he is in a car but I know he's done a few bike trackdays.

I was a bit surprised that the series went ahead after hearing about the problems they were having with the site. It looks like i was right, they're just ignoring it :P

Their permit expired April 30, by which time the current series would have been finished, I'm sure.

They do all the features in advance, but the studio bits and the star in a reasonably priced car is usually only done a week before it airs.

Looking forward to the CCX here as well.
However, I just wanted to comment on the last episode I saw...

It was funny as hell!
They made a renault convertable van.
The windows flapping and the roof dragging on the road!

Sure the racing is awesome and I really do love that, it's what got me into downloading top gear. At this point though, I like to see some of the other features and the convertable was awesome.

The "star in a..." feature was funny as well thanks to the "well spoken man" on the leaderboard.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to the next episode as well as the last one with the Exige S.

Btw, I'm way late on this stuff as an American who gets CD-R rips from a friend who has broadband and bittorrent.

Yeah that was a great episode. You've got the Z06 to look forward to, Jeremy loved it as a track car, but didn't like driving it on the road but it did a fantastic lap time. Then theres a bit on cars being turned into boats which is a great laugh and much more.

Are you still using dial up?

Where can I see this in the US? It used to be on the Discovery Channel and I used to try and watch it all the time when it was on. But now, it's now where to be found. Don't tell me that they show it on BBC America either, cause I will kill my cable company if they it's shown there.

I don't think they will show the UK version anymore now the US is making their own version.

Still on dial-up? Yes. :ouch:
Also, I've seen the Vette clip (downloaded that on my own as I just couldn't wait to see how fast it was on the track).
Makes me wonder though, does this mean the world will accept the Z06 as a great sports car or will new complaints arise since the old "bad handling and not that fast" complaints are pretty much out of the question. :P

In any case, I'm loving what I've seen of this season so far.
Let's hope they can keep this up. 👍
