Well they ended on a high. The M5 test was too short though, but they had to find time for the other segments which were, I have to admit, very good. Both guests were great, with Kimi being the complete opposite to Slash, but both entertaining.

The Rallycross part was by far the best thing in this episode though, maybe even this series. Such brilliant racing for a relatively small fee, plus it's bloody good fun to watch too.

Did they say when will they be back ?

I didn't hear anything about when it'll return. Probably in the summer like last year (June/July).

They usually have a winter season and a summer season. Given the winter season was in February/March rather than November/December, you can probably expect a new season to be August-ish.

This, of course, is barring any presenter trying to drive a jet engined car down a runway in the north.

 Guys .

Crap, I missed it. :grumpy: Does anyone know when a repeat is going to be aired?

They usually have repeats on BBC 3, if you have that channel. Can't remember what day though.

M5 test was boring (although a nice nod to the M1), Kimi was great, Slash was alright... although now SIARPC has resorted to turning up with what they're plugging... May in the Ferrari was nice, but boring, Rallycross bit was pretty good.

All in all, still not great in my opinion. It just lacks something that it used to have.

👍

That thing about the M5's time on a wet track being "meaningless" made me laugh.

It should extend to all of the times on that stupid board.

Funny that. I also skip the SIARPC part these days as well. It's past it sell by date.

Kimi was good.

Rally cross was excellent.

The series started off rather badly to me, but got better. I'll miss it now.

Just finished watching the new episode. The season definitely ended on a high note, I loved the episode. 👍 The seasons always go by way too fast.

I always skip the SIARPC segment now...on both shows.

As do I. Honestly the only one I genuinely enjoyed watching was the Jay Leno one, all the others are boring to me.

I think what's missing is the antics, honestly. All of the antics they did this season (mobility scooters and so on) were far tamer than seasons of old. I was hoping every episode for a cheap car challenge like the ones they used to do. I sort of got it at the end, but all of their cars were too good. And they didn't get subjected to the usual ridiculous tests. The rallycross bit was great, but although it was nice to see some harmony amongst the three (agreeing that all of their cars were actually very good), I miss the Top Gear where they would do crazy things like go out and drive amphibious cars across the Channel and endlessly mock each others' cars before, during and after the challenges. I still love the show to death, but it just seems more tame in general, while still being by far the best thing on TV. It's like they're getting older or something. 💡 Part of me senses that unless they start doing ridiculous stuff again, they'll run out of things to do and will only air one or two more seasons, which would be very sad. :( Either that, or they'll continue on but gradually become more and more of a serious car show as they run out of ridiculous things to do/continue to get older. I'd still watch it and enjoy it, but not like I used to.

An interesting poll to do among us Top Gear fanatics would be What are your top three favorite Top Gear seasons, and what is your single favorite episode or special on the show?

For me, my favorite season is definitely Season 10, closely followed by Season 11 and then Season 12. My favorite Top Gear episode/special ever has to be the Vietnam Special.

Good question. Seasons 10, 11, and 13 for me, and the best special is one I literally can't seperate between Vietnam and Botswana.

No season stands out for me, only episodes.

Best special is either the first, $1,000 CCC American one or the Polar Challenge.

That had me confused too. Even if they didn't want to show the lap to save time they still should have put the time on the board. So many other cars have done laps in the wet why is this car exempt?

I think I'm re-posting, but I want to see a CCC in Japan.

There was a Car vs. ???, but not a CCC. It would be interesting. Interesting, if they specifically bought non Japanese cars and saw how they coped in Japan.

Or better yet, buy some of the 90's Japanese cars that haven't showed on it yet and introduce the public to what they were like.

I've spent a lot of time recently watching old Top Gear. Not old Top Gear as in 1977-1999, but the current format of Top Gear. Except when it was much tighter and funnier than now.

£100 cars
£1500 coupes which are not Porsches
London Marathon: Fiat Panda vs. Man
Desroying a Hilux
Amphibious Cars I

Hell, I even find the 'boring' reviews good. Things like the M25 fuel economy race between the petrol Lupo and the diesel Lupo and the M1 economy race where the Audi A8 goes to Edinburgh and back on one tank, things like that, I find/found hugely interesting and still funny. It gave the presenter, Jeremy in both instances, to just talk while being themselves. It's brilliant. And they can go whole episodes without referring to genitals and really crude euphamisms. Every once in a while the SIARPC is good, too.

Oh sure a lot of it is still scripted but it has the feel of spontanaeity that the current programme lacks. And with the current trend/direction of the last few, increasingly tedious and immature series, the older stuff seems much fresher and has aged well. Richard Hammond is actually funny at times.

We're not allowed to talk about the illegalities of file sharing/hosting and such, but those of you who know where to look, it's well worth watching the older episodes to keep you going until the next series is back on our screens.

^I agree with you a lot. I watch a lot of Dave, and I saw an episode from around 04/05 this morning, and it was great. The whole thing was car reviews, a hot hatch review on the track, Richard and James doing Roulette car testing (picking up drunk people in their cars) and Jezza doing the M5, in Wales. Was excellent, and quite funny too.

Just watched the latest episode, it makes me want to go buy an old banger and thrash it around a muddy rallycross track. :D

Watching the one where they act as 17 year-old's and buy cars, I've never laughed so much.

Hammond's Oliver (1963 Opel Kadett) second restoration appointment.

Top Gear
In 2009, Top Gear broadcast a love story. A young man called Richard travelled to Botswana and fell for a slightly rusty 43-year-old called Oliver. So strong were his feelings that - at great expense and significant difficulty - he decided to bring him to Blighty....

Some say that he's only in it for the British passport, but Oliver - the nicotine-yellow Opel Kadett - is back on British shores and in Hammond's warm bosom. He's also booked in for his second bout of reconstructive surgery...
