Update 1.06 Undocumented Changes Thread (documented changes also listed in OP)

I can confirm that smoke looks like a screen door when in an online room. You only notice it as the smoke starts to dissipate. Probably a trade off to get better frame, worth it IMO.

Interesting note: when in multi-monitor mode no smoke (or skid marks) at all appears in the side monitors (though this was present in 1.05).

If you open a room with tuning prohibited, you can no longer use the engine limiter to reduce your PP even by 1 to fit your car into the regulations. On top of that, if you change the room back to unlimited tuning, the engine limiter function remains disabled.

This is not an undocumented feature that has been added to the game intentionally, it's just a bug that was fixed in the most recent hotfix.

Can you still increase in increments of 1?

Just installed 1.06 and got a ninja update straight after. It's got rid of the power limiter not working under prohibited tuning, so I guess that means the power limiter is back to normal
IMO Power Limiter should be prohibited in no-tuning online rooms! I hate when people drive powerful supercars with limiter set to ~30% of initial power in low PP no-tuning races...

I agree, & it's one of the requests I've made in my Less Forcing, And More Options thread (see my sig, number 9).

However, it should be optional. Room hosts should be able to enable & disable it at will regardless of whether the room is set to Tuning Prohibited or not. That way, PD will keep everyone happy.

Yes, it's been fixed back to how it was before.

Interesting, is there any noticeable increase in frame rate?

Many people have reported improved frame rate. I only had a chance to do a few laps last night but it felt better to me, will test more this evening. I always got terrible frame rate drop in the final chicanes at La Sarthe 2013 (damn ferris wheel) so I will go there tonight and if there's an improvement it will be very noticeable.

A few of my cars that were quite twitchy and unstable now seem a little... safer, in want of a better word. They are still tricky drives but there now seems to be more feedback to feel what they are doing, a couple of old muscle cars I run seem to develop more of a tyre chirp as the grip reaches it's limits.

Maybe its just a placebo effect but either way that's my feelings.

GASP! Did @Azure Flare just schooled @Johnnypenso? Whoa!
Nah, I just copied and pasted what someone else reported. I had/have no idea if the car gets a wing, spoiler or magic fairy dust, I've never driven it:lol:

Let's try and keep the discussion limited to undocumented changes fellas. It's ok to debate whether something has occurred or not like changes in physics or smoke, or whether an observed change actually came from a previous update. But lets avoid the off topic stuff. Feel free to discuss the update or what else you want in future updates in the appropriate places like the Update 1.06 Discussion Thread

I think everything is up to date now. I haven't added anything about changes to sounds or physics yet, the debate is still open on that.

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to highlight this. It would help if everyone who feels a difference in physics or sound for that matter, list the exact car/tire/track/tune combination you are referring too and offline/online. That way the test can be repeated by others. Best to stick to stock cars when it comes to physics so the conditions can easily be repeated too.

Sorry Johnny, I was just being a smartass with my comment, no harm intended.

  • Various anecdotal reports of smoke and water spray being more pixellated after the update.
I'm observing this in replays which have water on the track. The effect is quite extreme, like an obscuring mosaic. It affects the video markedly, however, photo mode is unaffected.

Tested this with a replay on a rally track (Ascari), and the dust pixelates badly there.

If this change is in an attempt to avoid frame rate issues in replays, then IMHO, the cure is worse than the disease. Far, far worse. I'm not seeing any frame rate issues anyway.

Apparently these are in 1.06 as one of my friends showed me, apparently it was found on ngu, jk83 took the pic/found it I guess.

Nice but it's not really an undocumented setting, more of something hidden in the game code, and not yet ready for public consumption.
