Update 2.08 Now Available with Big Changes!

I hope the tire wear goes up so we can crank out some decent nurburg enduro races, but I did get to test out the aero and ride height on Speed Route X, and the front downforce seems close to the same as before, but the rear is worth a lot more mph's down a straight so maybe there will be aero tuning for once in this game. It was very unrealistic to have way faster lap times at Monza with full downforce, ya dig'

Ride height now slows your car down by a car length or so give or take.

The tire has gone up significantly. It seems like thire life has been almost trippled.

With GT6 using the same engine as GT5, PD is unlikely to be putting this patch out for the benefit of GT5 alone--especially after it has been out for two years.

Are we receiving some GT6 developments that were capable of being inserted back into GT5? For the tyre-wear changes, I hope so. For the sound of the new GT500, I hope not.

Wondering with the new tire wear, if its back to the old "50 laps on racing softs at Daytona" in NASCAR car days.

Are we confirming then that tyre wear has improved online?
I did a quick run, identical to the one I did just prior to the update.
It seems that tires (I only tested SS) wear by about 20-30% less. Tests done in the lounge.

From offline to online before this new update I was able to get the same amount of laps in practice as an online race. So far in offline practice, tire wear is much much less. I'm not sure of a percentage, but I feel I can go about 3 times longer with my current cars on racing softs.

So far I can't say what is my favourite, because my PS3 hasn't finished downloading it.
Big Update is BIG. It's already taking an hour, and the progress bar still haven't reached 50%.
I don't think the DLC is available yet. If it does, it'll appear in the 'What's New' column at the top-right corner of the PSN Store.

First one to tell me how the new Clutch System works gets a cookie!

Works great, clutch goes to the floor to 90% depressed before disengaging, but the annoying mis shifting is worse due you NEED to push the peal to floor now, not blip it like before.

Now that aero and tire wear is simulated more accordingly, all we need now is spilt times for all drivers and that should complete the full racing experience except for cars & tracks'

Down side is practice session will take even longer due to height and downforce adjustments!

I think you might have an issue with your connection. Or their servers are overloaded. It should only take a couple of minutes for 200+mb.

Disabling collisions = a field full of ghosted car. What a ridiculous setting! I would have rather seen an option to ghost any cars traveling in the wrong direction instead of ghosting everyone.

They should've kept the system from GT5p.

Agreed.

Having ghosted cars is going to encourage bad habits. At least it was introduced almost 2 years after release. Lots of knuckleheads are long gone.

Is it possible to filter ghost car rooms from the lobby list?

The only use I can think of for it is online qualifying or time trial (assuming draft doesn't assist ghost cars).

I couldn't believe it when I saw this option being introduced, that isn't racing but a time trial with visual ghost obstructing your view.
If you're faster I imagine you can just drive through them instead of trying to find a good opportunity to overtake, there's then also no need to defend anymore I guess.
So it'll only be nice for those who only want to show how fast they can go around a track, not whether they can actually race, weird (or plain stupid).

its true, a field full of ghost cars just turns the race into a time attack

To be honest options are always good. The potential problem is avoiding this feature when desired, which I assume will be most of the time for serious racers.

The feature at least helps with online qualifying slightly, assuming it works before the race starts. There are also other uses like perhaps driving practice/training and testing.

I'm guessing it'll be selectable beforehand and after qualifying if you select the normal settings your times will be removed if it's implemented the way I fear it is.
I completely agree it should be an option which can be filtered, as otherwise finding a good room will be even more of a chore than it already is.

I must say that the tire wear feels better now. Now I can do 8 laps at Circuit de la Sarthe in a Le Mans Prototype with a set of racing hard tires before the rear tires become about half worn out. Before the patch I could only manage 3-4 laps before the LMPs became impossible to control. I haven't checked how soft tires compare but now it's at least possible to maintain a good momentum over several laps without having to worry about pit stops.
