VCRC vintage & low power :: Sunday 3pm GMT / 10am US EST

Has anybody did some practise laps and could post the lap time here ?
I just want to know if I'll be competitive tomorrow in my full manual mode

Looks like I managed a 2:28.5xx in time trial mode, can't remember my online practice time but it was at least a full second slower, and I seem to recall a string of mid 2:30s. GV is not my best track though. :yuck:

@BrandonW77 Thank you for taking up the reigns here w/ putting things together & hosting the next couple of weeks - which would be helpful. 👍

I thought I'd posted last week... and I didn't. :boggled: I'm all discombobulated.
But I updated post #2.

I've got the car ready so I'm hoping to make it tomorrow. But I'm just not sure. Depends on the cold medicine angle mostly.
We'll see how that pans out.
But I'm in no fit state to host... I drove on the wrong tires today in one of the MMS races.

My cold seemed better this morning... but then seems to have switched nostrils this evening. :odd: I hope this doesn't mean I'll go through another few days of this on the other side. :nervous: Starting to get really annoyed because this is now nearly a week since I woke up last Sunday feeling like I'd been laying in one of the potholes that I drive through daily. :irked: At any rate, another night with the googler. (That's what we call the vaporizer humidifier.) And I guess we'll see how I feel when I get up.

RE: vintage & low power

It's a loose definition.
either/or/both

You can find most other types of car racing, there's not as much organized around the vintage and the low power end. So that's the whole thing.

Like no modern performance cars in other words.
If it's newer than the early 90s, it ought to be on the lower end of the power.
In other words, the newer it is, the more low power it should be.

I would be down with doing like the Muira Bertone & stuff like that mixed in with the lower power stuff.

... someday when I have the credits to buy it.
I seem to be at about 14million & some credits continuously. Doesn't help that I lost my login bonus this week. :(
Going to make a point to log in every day this week, that's for sure... so I don't wind up on Saturday getting pittance. :grumpy:

There are a couple of vintage ferraris that could be interesting (and fairly affordable) that might be of interest. Just as a suggestion.

I'm also keen on a lot of the Japanese 80s cars... I would consider those vintage and I think they get overlooked a lot in the vintage scheme. But they're definitely not modern.

A reminder to everyone, if you haven't already, please send me a FR on PSN at BrandonW77. I'll have the room up in about a half hour.

Ugh, just woke up feeling like crap. :yuck: Who authorized a spring cold in February?!? Definitely in no condition to drive, I'd only ruin my race and probably someone else's, so I'll sit this one out. :(

good luck to all the racers today!

The room will be up in a few minutes, last chance to get those FR's in. If you send it after the room is open there's a chance you may not be able to enter.

See you all shortly!

I'm planning on joining... but I'm also not feeling so hot consistently... so if I resign the race (appropriately), that will be why. :( (Because of sneezing.)

Good racing today, shame that the Skyline is no longer the fun car that it was in GT5.

If nobody objects I'd like to nominate the Alfa Guilia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 (on CS) at Monza for next week. I did a short test today and find it to be a very nice combo.

Yes. I ran out of gas. :boggled: I took on fuel at the pit stop... I don't know what happened.

Ah, bitten by the lack of fuel bug!

Join the club!👍:D

To combat this illness, I have developed a new mantra (which I have pasted in large print on my TV):

"Pit when KingKling pits"
"Pit when KingKling pits"
"Pit when KingKling pits"
"Pit when KingKling pits"
"Pit when KingKling pits"

Great race Naptown!!!

You and I had the same idea... I was going to go one more lap before pitting (which in hindsight may have eased some of the congestion issues in the pit lane), but once I saw King head for the pits I quickly thought better of it and made a last second dive in.

I have to say that was one of the most intense battles I've ever been a part of... Literally bumper to bumper for 21 laps! Huge props for a super clean race, your constant pressure was insane!

Yeah part of my losing strategy was trying to wait to pit until I knew I'd be able to get a good nose blow in. :ouch:
That's not a strategy I would recommend to anyone.

OTOH - in REAL LIFE (stupid real life!)... about 10 years ago I was on my morning commute, and stopping at a stop sign, and the car in back of me rear-ended me at the stop sign. :boggled: :odd: It was very strange because it was a low speed street going into the stop sign and pretty obvious that a stop was coming up, in rush hour traffic. I got out to check if there was damage - thankfully there was none... But the woman who hit me said, and I quote, "Sorry, I sneezed."

I saw that feint up the S/F straight, but I wasn't going for it, all I saw was KingKling heading into the pits, so that's where I was going:D

Yeah, just a great battle all race long!👍

Even some great side-by-side battles thru a number of corners:)

Great fun all race long!

Hey your league sounds fun how can I join?

Normally Watermelonpunch is the director (add her on PSN: wat3rm370n) but she's a bit under the weather a busy with real life at the moment so I'm serving as a guest host so add me on PSN as well, BrandonW77. We race Sunday mornings at 10am EST (I believe that's 10am Toronto time as well?) and the room is usually open 15-20 minutes early for some practice. For this weekend I've proposed the Alfa Guilia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 (on CS) at Monza (with chicanes) and haven't heard any strong protests so that's probably what you'll need to have prepared. 👍

Good racing today, shame that the Skyline is no longer the fun car that it was in GT5.

My memory from GT5 was that the '70 Nissan Skyline could hold its own against more modern cars (at the same PP level) if it was fully tuned and you were running on race tires. You could surprise some people if you used it during an on-line race because they didn't understand how a car from 1970 could stay with their cars.:) Though, I don't remember that it was anything special on CS tires and with just the "stock" tune.

Using the Skyline while driving against @Naptown25rs yesterday was a blast:)

The problem I was having in getting past Naptown was that he was faster than me.

The only reason that I was able to stay with him was that I was getting a draft frequently enough that everytime he opened up a small gap, I would draft right back to his rear-bumper:)

The few times I was able to get a better run thru a corner, I couldn't get past because of the Skyline's gearing and LSD.:grumpy:

It seemed to me that the Skyline's LSD would kick in when I was trying to accelerate past Naptown in 2nd gear, and this would bog down my Skyline and I couldn't accelerate past Naptown even though I might have taken the corner slightly better. If I tried 3rd gear to get past, the LSD didn't kick in, but the Skyline was still too slow to accelerate past Naptown, so I would just have to try again at the next corner, and at the next corner, and then I ran out of corners.:):)

Great fun!

I've never driven a tuned version of it but in GT5 I used to drive it and the '73 Skyline a bit and they were both a hoot to drive. Not super fast or super loose but fast/loose enough to have fun and good racing. Now, in GT6, it just understeers and murders its front tires so it understeered more and more each lap. Shame really, it was one of my faves in GT5 but I doubt I'll ever drive it again in GT6, at least not without trying an upgrade to SH or something.

Done! We're officially racing ^this sexy Alfa this coming Sunday. I'll try it on some tracks other than Monza this evening before making a decision, but a classic Italian car on a classic Italian track seems like a good fit to me and the car was a blast to drive around the Autodromo.

Speaking of sexy Alfa's.........meet my new car crush, the Disco Volante. :drool:crisis:drool:
