VCRC vintage & low power :: Sunday 3pm GMT / 10am US EST

Have they fixed the gearing on the old chain drive Hondas; s500, s600, z-car?

z-car? ??

Well bearing in mind that I know so little about gearing & shifting...

It could be the 2000GT felt wrong in shifting simply because I was struggling with Silverstone track itself.
I'll have to try it on some more tracks to really know.

I did try the Honda S600.
I'd meant to include it in this group of cars:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/time-trial-testing-mixer-makeshift-shuffle.295260/
But as it turned out, it was the pits and I do believe it was because of the gearing. So I'd say no, not fixed. :grumpy:
I guess that's why we never used the S600.
I haven't tried the s500 yet, but I'm not hopeful based on the s600

(But the S800 still a great car in GT6)

We need some small track, very low PP action for next week.

How low shall we go?
Shall I get out the limbo stick? :D

2CV @ Madrid Mini Reverse.

:ill:

Just kidding! :D

The Avanzatos are now "near premium"... But I haven't at all tested those yet, and have no clue how their gearing is stock.

There's also my personal favourite...
Vintage Fiat 500s at Monte Carlo. :sly:

I'm also totally digging the "near premium" PAO. ;)
I've always liked it of course. I'm glad they improved it.
There's something about the look that's special. It has that look of a car you would see at a parking lot at a state park in the 80s, with people getting out of it with backpacks full of granola.
(ie: it speaks to me ;))

 will they go up the hill?

You know, I've never tried it! :odd:

I just picked the worst track, that happens to be small.

Note: I am planning on doing some kind of event with the 2CV at the GT Arena tracks, but not heavy damage, not endurance, and I haven't sorted out the idea yet. I was thinking maybe doing a sprint variety event with it, and some other crazy low power vintage selections.
Like maybe the 2CV, the Subaru 360, and like the Schwimwagen or something nutty.
But you know me, I'd race the the VW bus at Kart Space if someone would join me.
(Well, maybe not the VW bus at Kart Space :odd:.)

Edit 2:
OMG google "vw bus at kart space"

Was great race up until I ran out of fuel. I did pit on the countdown timer, but nothing registered. Next time will have to pit sooner:dopey:

Are we racing next Sunday?

Yeah, you did me a favour there John

I reckoned about half way that my fuel probably wouldn't last & took a gamble on pitting at the end of lap 12 (i Think) reckoning I might as well do it sooner than later to get the best advantage out of fresh tyres.

It worked but only just .... unlucky John:sly:

On a side note looking at the replay I was embarrassed at my rate of tyre wear compared with the front guys esp mr Penso:bowdown: - 10 secs a lap faster & much less tyre wear. I just love the sound of these tyres squealing though!!:banghead:

Don't expect to make too many of the Sunday afternoon jaunts ... but who knows?

Very happy to see that PD added the Renault R8 Gordini. (The R8 is one of my all time favorite cars both real and virtual) Has anyone tried it out. I once read a description of driving an R8: Pump up the rear tires, stomp on the gas and steer!
Anyways just managed to to earn my way online and am looking to try racing. Must say driving with a ds3 is much much harder than using a wheel.

I've heard of this Gordini, I must investigate!

What happened to you wheel? :(
Wheel is part of my pc set-up, and in a different room than the ps3.(had to give the living room back to my wife got a gaming pc out of the deal)

If anyone has the chance, someone do a test w/ the Renault R8 Gordini '66 on Deep Forest, & give me a ballpark clean lap time, only becaues I've been testing other cars there & want to see where it fits in w/ the scheme of things.
I'd like to know about the gearing, and if there's any danger of it hitting the limiter :nervous:
I'd totally forgotten about this car.

I also wonder if this car would be good on Matterhorn Rotenboden.

I ran a few laps on arcade time trial with the renault. I am not generally great with RR cars but it wasn't too hard to drive - However I am sure any half decent driver will be able to shatter my best time of 1.46.45.

Oddly the car comes equipped with racing hard tyres - I changed these to comfort soft.

Thanks jack!
So we're looking at a car that's somewhere in the ballpark with the Honda S800 '66. That sound about right?
And yeah, good thinking comfort soft.
I imagine it comes with racing tires because it's a race car? It is a race car right?
I was hoping that means the gearing would make sense.

Thinkin of this car on Matterhorn Ritodentenaogngosden

(We had a really fantastic time with the vintage road cars in shuffle yesterday on Matterhorn Roten... They were fast enough to make it exciting, but not so fast that not knowing the track well didn't make for too much mayhem. ;))

Do you think that's wise?

I don't know the names of the versions... :nervous: And I'm kind of still surprised by them all.

Is there somewhere on the forum there's a list of all the GT6 tracks & their variations + distance lengths?
I've looked for that, but I figure I may have missed it. (I'm still having a heck of a time adjusting to the new forum format. :dopey:)

@watermelonpunch, been meaning to do this for a while. Finally got a round one

Link to all the GT6 tracks, lengths, number of corners and longest straight 👍

Okay I'm looking at next Sunday
12 January

R8
But I still have to figure out a track. :nervous:

I'm looking for input.
I think it needs to be a short track, which kind of limits the choices.

I tried several tracks, I think Nurb GP/F (in late evening) or Grand Valley (forward) would be good fits for the Gordini. I'm presuming we aren't running on the stock racing hard tires, I tested on comfort soft.

No, not tomorrow. I've totally gone off the rails this week with just about everything. :ouch: I don't like to do things half... you know.

And yes, comfort softs.

And is it near the limitere on gpf??
Or sorry - grand valley.

Grant Valley, of course, is a spectacularly lovely track for endurance racing. :D
And it's the kind of big track that's still nice with lower power cars.

Being that we tend to have a mix of racers... I'd veer away from Nurb gp/f with low power - not because it's not a nice track for low power but just because cars tend to separate there pretty quickly, -- 2 turns in the last sector tend to sort out drivers within a few laps.
(I mention this because I'm consistently as fast, nearly as fast, or even faster, than many faster drivers in the 1st sector, and then always lose big time in the last sector throwing it all away :ouch: )

I think it has plenty of gear. 5 gears, redline at 7k and limiter at 7500, I was topping out around 6600 without draft at Grand Valley.

Okay good. Someone was saying somewhere something about riding into the red I thought, but I could be confusing car reports at this point.

I don't think it will be an issue, the car has quite a bit of gear. It's fairly planted for a RR but it can get upset, doesn't require too soft of a right foot though.

The R8 Gordini '66 is not anything like I remember say the Alpine. :scared:  You know, as RR cars go.
That said, I haven't driven the Alpine in GT6 yet.
And I've only tried the R8 on 2 tracks so far - 1 being Autumn Ring Mini which doesn't exactly tell you about what happens when you get momentum & then brake hard.

But then it seems like it's more intuitive in gt6 with all the dodgy kind of cars that I find it easier (or maybe more nuanced) to control the cars or maybe more cues. Not something I can really put my finger on. But I've noticed the difference particularly with the Fairlady 68 & Autozam in particular in my testing them... Two cars that in GT5 had the tendency to surprise-out-of-nowhere at times. That said I haven't actually raced either of those cars yet, and I tend not to find out everything until I do :dopey: ... and then boy do I find out how to make them very unsettled.

At any rate, I'm liking the idea of Grand Valley (full, forward).
I'm going to try & get on tomorrow to tests. But my day is looking dodgy at this point. Not sure if I have to go out of town or not (depends on the weather). (For those not in the NE US - it's been 🤬 cold and snowing and every 🤬 thing for days in Pennsylvania.:nervous:)

The Alpine is awesome because PD gave it 50/50 weight distribution instead of it's native 40/60 or something close to that.
