Car:
Volvo 240 GLT Estate '88
comfort medium tires
tuning: prohibited
oil change, engine rebuild, chassis restoration, wheel rims, & paint are allowed
If you can't find the car, let us know and someone will likely be able to send you one.

It's not sporty, kind of old-fashioned, perhaps uncool, very unpopular, an odd choice for a race,
and very likely to be voted in the top 10 worst cars in GT5.
And that's exactly why it'll be fun to race it!!

Race will be hosted in the VCRC Lounge, add PSN: VCRC
Note: The VCRC account is just the club lounge account. It will rarely be signed on.
Get the FR in a.s.a.p. to assure acceptance in advance of racing.
In order to check the league lounge, you must click on the coffee cup,
and wait for the room content list to present.
No yellow people icon will show, even when the room is full.

Race Regulations:
All aids prohibited, except ABS & driving line (driver's choice)
Tire Wear & Fuel: ON
Grip: Real
Damage: light
Penalty: off
Slipstream: weak
Boost: off
GTP OLR Rules
please familiarize yourself with these rules prior to the event

Points:
flat points determined by race participation
(ie: 10 drivers in the race, #1 gets 10 points, and so forth)

Race Procedure:

Qualifying approximately 15 minutes free run on Race #1 track.
Race #1 @ Autumn Ring Mini
Race #2 @ Deep Forest Raceway
Race #3 @ Circuito de Madrid Mini
Race #4 @ Rome

How can I say no?

Early of course.

Colour.. now let me think..can't decide whether to go garish, very garish or outrageously garish....or beige!

I'll let you know. After all us Volvo drivers wouldn't be doing anything without a lot of careful thought.

No smileys ....they're far too vulgar!

Darn. Really want to make this event but not sure if I can do the Wednesday. I'll keep you posted.

This is your one time that how can anybody have a problem with "outrageously garish"???
lol

Or beige.
(I think cc570 won't be signing up for this one, so beige will probably be an open unique colour.)

What was that movie where they had the advert for Volvo... something like, "drive a Volvo! It's BOXY!"
??

I wish we could all miraculously be on the same schedules.
It's more than a week away though, so if anything changes, do tell!

Already got the Beige on lockdown, going for the ugliest car award! :sly:

Yes, I saw that now, after I was replying that. hahaha. :dunce:
Got you covered.

I think jackargent might beat you if he goes for "outrageously garish" though.
(I'm secretly hoping it's some hideous DLC paint chip he digs out to use at the paint shop. lol)

I am as yet, still undecided.
The Volvo I've been testing with is Forest Green & high mileage.
I think that's far too reserved a colour for this vehicle, and I'm hoping to acquire soon a low mileage specimen.

^^^

It was either Beige, or Passionate Pink with some shade of Purple wheels... I might find another car and paint it up with the second choice just to see how it looks.

Put me down for the late race.
dabneyd / dabneyd / green & gold

Yep!! That'd be great.

Did a quick 5 lap stint at each of the 5 tracks to gather some reference lap times... My fastest lap for each track is posted below.

Lap Times

Autumn Ring Mini - 52.555

Deep Forest Raceway - 1:52.224

Circuito de Madrid Mini - 1:17.707

Rome Circuit - 1:46.817

Lemons Country Circuit - 1:38.043

A select few have been privileged to witness the unveiling of my tasteful & restrained colour scheme perfectly reflecting the character of this car.

The bodywork is yellow & the wheels are a sort of orangey red.

As these are dlc paints they do not have names.

I will therefore name them myself.

My colour scheme is yellow peril & blood Orange.

Beige was too boring so I changed colors...

Passionate Pink / Lime Green

Mmmm... you know what that reminds me of! :sly:

:D

And I knew it, I knew you couldn't keep the beige!! I was just waiting! lol Not after seeing Jackargent's specimen!!

For those not in the know, that's jackargent's car on the left. 👍 :D

Of course in this race, IMZIZ beat me even without an oil change and being a bazillion less hp. :ouch:

I look forward to taking photomodes of all vehicles painted both sacred & profane. :sly:

Lemons Country Circuit now currently shared on PSN: VCRC

Gave the car a quick go around on the tracks.
Lemons Country is great 👍 and Rome should make for some close racing 👍
The CM tires actually feel very grippy with this car. Good match up.

Yes, that is interesting, isn't it.
Of course cc570 is always telling me that generally, unmodified, the cars are often best on the tires they come with. And I would say that does seem to be true in most cases on most tracks.
Comfort Mediums are the tires this estate comes with. I made sure to test it though.

I do so love Rome... with low powered cars. :)
It's my favourite track for karts as well. :)

Of course cc570 is always telling me that generally, unmodified, the cars are often best on the tires they come with.

I can think of some exceptions, like the RUF Yellowbird, but in general that is true. You can maybe increase one tire compound on most cars without having too much of an issue. After that, you'll just have a car that understeers and it won't be much fun to drive.

I rather like the Yellow bird when I get it in shuffle races.
(Not sure what tires it's on though, I never looked. But I believe all shuffle cars are on their comes-with tires.)
All I know is that I suddenly do much much better against the same people in the shuffle races when I get the Yellow Bird. haha

That said, yeah, we ran the Toyota Celica 70 on comfort mediums a few weeks ago and that worked very well for some reason. I thought so and others seemed to like it too. I believe it comes with comfort softs... But comfort mediums somehow I think gave the illusion of being in a bigger more powerful car.

I've come to think the faster a car can go, and the lighter it is, the more significant the harder tires will be... ?? This is just speculation on my part, based on what I've been noticing & what other people describe.

I got the Yellowbird on Autumn Ring the other night. It was bloody fast on the straights, but far too difficult to pass anyone in. I actually finished 5th out of 10 but I was about 30 seconds behind after 3 laps and a few mistakes. It comes with SH tires stock.
