Vintage Showdown *VCRC* Round #1- Merc '54 & Subaru '58 - All Welcome!

If MSTER is really fast then I'd love to race with Melon or if he signs up, John Wells. Everyone else will easily beat me  I want someone who won't be like ah, I'm totally going to win this no matter what, because they will.

Okay Mister-came-in-2nd-place at Madrid Mini today in the Karmann Ghia.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure you're slow.

And John Wells I think took me to the cleaners today!

it will be pretty complicated to make it so everyone do 3 races wont it? because if someone's already done two races you can't race that one? what if you end up without any partners left? :P

That's why you need to go tell your friend Carbonox to join us.

And no, I thought about this in different scenarios.
At worst, everyone should be able to easily make 2 matches - which is really all you NEED.
And everyone can do 3 matches. Though yeah, your 3rd match probably won't be "ideal" if you're late making your matches.

So yeah, if you've already had 3 matches, clearly you wouldn't be able to do a match with me, making it 4.

It'll work out. I went over this fictionally matching people.
Of course, it definitely does promote people being sociable and making their plans! :)

It's the beauty of this system is that the nature of it itself promotes clean racing and exemplary comraderie... friendly rivalries are the order of the day in this league! :)

I just invited some of my old friends from dax's racing leagues (by shameless plugging in the fia gt1 thread ^^) We'll see if it gives any effect at all.

OK, how is "matching" decided? Can I just challenge anyone (signed up)? Or is that what qualifying is for? And how does qualifying work?

I think the qualifying was about dividing us in to some kind of group and within those groups we would chose opponents? but that would only happen if many sign up for this.

Racers arrange matches for events amongst themselves. 👍
You challenge someone to a match, and if they accept (and everyone will be looking for 3 matches), then you & your opponent arrange a time to meet and race the event.

You will NEVER have to race someone you don't want to race.
And you ALWAYS have the option to say no to a challenge for any reason or no reason - you need not explain at all.

If by qualifying you mean the qualifying event, pre-season.
It's basically a "dry run", allowing everyone you to test out racing in this format with other racers... And give you an idea of what you're up against. ;)
NOTE: Qualifying Event race results will be posted, points will be tallied... But the race points will NOT count toward the season.
HOWEVER, the Track Etiquette & Sportsmanship Integrity scoring WILL start the Scoreboard for TE&SI rankings. 👍
(This is a separate standings list, simply as a means to "police ourselves". 👍)

As for qualifying during event battles in matches...
Race Procedures:
Races to be held in VCRC lounge if the lounge is available, you may also use PSN: redshifting lounge
(if both lounges are unavailable at the time you would like to race, a lounge of one of the racers may be used)
Qualifying: Drivers allowed 2 timed laps, then park, stay on track until race start
Race #1 : Fastest First
Race #2 : Reverse Grid Order
Race #3 : Reverse Grid Order

I think the qualifying was about dividing us in to some kind of group and within those groups we would chose opponents? but that would only happen if many sign up for this.

Yes, if we get enough people signed up to split into divisions, and in which case, you would be choosing opponents from your division. And certainly the qualifiers will make that clear - or at least somewhat reasonable gauge of splitting racers up - in a fair arbitrary way.

But really it's just a "test period". So I can test the system, and everyone else can test the system, and sort of a meet & greet, to get the hang of setting things up with opponents.
(Because I know this is going to be one of those things where nobody's going to do it until someone else does... like getting a date for the prom. :sly: )

it's an interesting thing these challenges hm.. my dream three races would probably be one that i'm pretty sure i can win, one i think would be real even and one that i'm pretty sure i'll lose. To get some real challenge but still have the chance to bring in some points. ^^

I was thinking something along the same lines.

And that's why I think of a "showdown" because some of the matches will be very challenging.

I think everyone will have to choose some strategy of that sort.
Because you know, no one is obligated to give you a match.
On the other hand, you'll want 3 matches because you never know what might happen depending on the car/track. So if it comes down to it to get your 3rd match, it will very well be worth it to do the 3rd match that you're not very confident about - but may wind up being worth the risk because you MIGHT do better than you think, and if you don't you can drop it.
But then weighing that against that person getting points they WILL use.
There's a strategy here, and there's really no way around it. If you want the points, you're going to have to take some risks about the challenges you accept.

It seems to me rather interesting.
And it took me awhile to come up with this system that can't really be gamed, because the system is set up so that you're gaming it. :sly:

But if you've had two wins already you don't really feel the need to plan a third race do you? Giving others the chance to get points, but i guess that's the beauty of it.. that you can do like that if you want. :)

Some showdown invitations have now been sent to a couple of peoples i'd like to get smashed by ^^ I hope it's ok to start the match making..

Exactly! And who will you do that for?
You will do that if you think it might be a good fun challenge with some potential to best them.
You will do that with racers you know to be exemplary in track etiquette, fun to race, and friendly!

So it's built right into the system, an incentive for fair racing, comraderie and maintaining sporting attitudes and friendly atmosphere among league members. 👍 :sly:

I would do it for you ;) (ok let's not get overconfident here niko.. take it easy, no bragging, be the underdog..)

what are you talking about my confused little duckling? you decide the time yourself with your competitor. You have between two specific dates to finnish your duels. come on join meee ^^

Oh boy, I have to figure out how to make this more clear so there are no more confused penguin ducklings.

The times denote opening times & deadlines for scheduling your battles with opponents, and reporting your results.

The events can be completed with other racers any time within the time frames specified for those events.

I'm embarrassed! I ain't got the karmenn! Can anyone help me out please?

 It's been in the OCD twice in the past 6-8 months!
I'll look later, add PSN: redshifting - I may have another spare on that acct. 👍

@ Carbonox : You will choose 2-3 opponents to race 1-on-1 with, per event. 👍

:guilty:I get enough  at home, without getting them on here too!

I'll get a FR sent through as soon as possible.

Thank you.

I have some thoughts on "divisions", to increase excitement, risk, and fairness. 👍

Put a cap on amount of drivers in Division 1 (or any division if we have more than 2 in future)
Allow drivers to choose rival opponents from either Division...
BUT
Have 1 less point for positions in Division 2...

Meaning if :
2 opponents match in Division 1, they get Division #1 points
2 opponents match in Division 2, they get Division #2 points.

But if mixing-matching occurs:

Division #1 driver gets Division #2 points
Division #2 driver gets Division #1 points

Does this make sense to people?
And does anyone see any flaw with this?
Because I think this would make divisioning fair, and create more interesting & flexible matching selections at the same time.
IE: would allow people more selection in matching, but would also encourage people to have more close racing matches.

I try to strike a balance between competition and fun close racing. 👍

EDIT: Also, with this system, "promotion & relegation" would happen "naturally".
EDIT2: I will have to run some math to set the points system for divisions, to make sure it's not more advantageous to lose all in one division or win all in another.

Also - is everyone inviting their friends? :D
We now have 11 people signed up. And there's no limit to the amount of sign-ups for this! :D So the more the merrier!!! :)

:guilty:I get enough  at home

 So do I!

Welcome!

And I sent RDAardvark the Kharmann Ghia
As it turns out I did an inventory, and I have 5 spares if anyone needs. 👍
(4 under 10,000 miles - 1 is high mileage)

Append:

I have also already made challenges to 2 opponents for the Kharmann Ghia @ Rome.
My challenge invites are yet to be accepted.

And I updated the League Sign-Up list to include links to participants' profile pages, to make it easier for people to personally contact other members they want to challenge. 👍 :)

Thanks for the car.
I think.
It's a bit fast!

Seriously though, I can dupe this if anyone else needs it.

Anyone got under 1:54 yet at Rome?

It's BLINDINGLY fast isn't it?!!
It actually kind of seemed faster on Motegi East on Wednesday. It was interesting. (And a bit embarrassing for me, as I flubbed it in Turn 1 like a total kook.)

I THINK the qualifying time at Rome before the race there Wednesday was a bizarre 1:51.x :boggled: I can't quite remember, but I know I was nowhere near the best time!!! I think I was doing 1:55 in the qualifying. 👎
I qualified in last place, and I came in last place in the race. :indiff:
I haven't had a chance to watch the replays of those races yet.
But they were very fun!! I think I got last place by less than .500 and 1st & 2nd were also very close.

@ Phouchg
OMG you already have your 3 challenges set?? You're really on the ball!
Nobody's challenged me. Awe... ^^
atongo I THINK has accepted my challenge & we'll race this weekend. 👍
The other person I've asked has yet to respond.
So I still will need a 3rd even if he accepts.

But in that first quali there were three reeeeally fast drivers swapping times, i think i was a coule of seconds off in 4th.. So everyone ain't crazy. :P

You have to plan ahead, time really fliiies. Soon it would be wednesday and i'll be the only one who've done my races ^^
I could have challenged you if I didn't get my slots filled so fast.. but you'll find matches, you're crazy popular so that won't be a problem. ;)

 Yes it's true that the top qualifiers in the Kharmann Ghia @ Rome on Wednesday may in fact be aliens!!

This car is really fantastic to drive :) I'm really looking forward to my races, it slides so beautifully round the corners. It's much more a delight to drive with a wheel than with controller (like i did in the kharman ghia mini series a couple of days ago). :)
