Sport tires and Racing Intermediate and Rain are indeed what will be used in the championship. But as for using any lower compount than SS tires, it's highly inadvisable. Consider this comment that I posted earlier in this thread.
My original plan was to run the Le Sarthe race on SM tires, but after a 10 lap test race, I came to the conclusion that you'll be giving yourself a huge handicap.
"
The difference in durability between the two different compounds should be much higher than it currently is. After 10 laps, you had around 50% tire left, where as I had 45%. While I could certainly adjust my driving to be even more focused on preserving tires, I would be losing even more time per lap than I already was.
The best lap I was able to pull off with SM tires, was 4.06.3. That's 10.8 seconds slower than the fastest lap done on SS tires. On average, I lost maybe around 8 secs per lap. A pit stop for tires last roughly 20-25 seconds. And then you are able to do fast laps again, where as I'm out on half worn SM tires. Losing even more time per lap.
Not only is the durability in tires completely off. The amount of grip lost relative to the amount of rubber you have left, is also generally exaggerated.
The tiremodel in GT5 is by no means the worst out there, but it leaves a lot to be desired."
But it's your choice. Perhaps you'll be able to get better results than me.
We have another practice session today at 11.00GMT. That's about 2 hours from now. Join if you want. And welcome to the Series
