W.M.A. Karts! Rd. 4 - Monaco!

Yeah.

Firstly: I need thoughts. This first preseason test, in which we tested the rules and such; did it work? Barring my stupidity (part 2 of this post,) did everyone have fun?

Secondly: I'm sorry for driving like a retard. It was way harder to pass Jr. karts, than the Jr.s realize, after the gearing change. The Jr.s handle better (slightly) and so, can take the corners about 3 or 4 km/h faster than the 125s.
So, I tried to push the speed through the corners, and it didn't work.

I enjoyed the first race, had a couple of good battles but had to sit out the second due to something that came up here at home...

Everyone that participated today seemed to be clean, respectful racers... I have raced with a few of the Jr. kart guys before, so I knew what to expect from them, but everyone else provided clean racing as well.

I'm not a fan of the rolling start, and wouldn't be upset to see it go away. But that's just me... Everyone understanding and following the rules will likely make a big difference.

I would have liked to race with tunable gear ratios in the second race, the stock transmission tune in the Jr's is just too slow to be enjoyable when you're flat out 90% of the time. If the Jr's remain on stock tune I might be inclined to switch to the 125's.

Other than that, I think you have a good thing going... I was pleasantly surprised by the attendance today, and hope to see it continue or improve as the season moves forward.

Just my $0.02

Glad to hear it. It's okay, about Race 2. I allowed the Jr.s to up their top speed by two clicks. (half way full bar.)

Except me, in Race 2, I suppose. I apologized for it, because I was having trouble passing the Jr. karts after the gearing change. The closing speeds weren't high enough, and I don't like disturbing races in other classes.

Expect a full revision of the start procedures.

Closing speed had nothing to do with that. Trying to fit three karts into two karts worth of space caused that.

My suggestions

1: This should be held in a private lounge, otherwise everyone who find the room, and dont know the rules, could mess it all up.

2: I have never done a rolling start before, and dont like it very much, why not make 1 warm up lap, and then line up on the grid based on your qual time ?

Other than that, good racing today, so funny to use the jr once again :)

Sorry I missed the event, work took longer than expected.

It's okay bud. :)

Hello!

Can i still come and join you? I register my self to Kart Jr.

My thoughts :

In race 1, the Jnrs were definitely too limited on top speed, I was stuck behind Willie for half the race, separated by about 2 inches lol. It was fun for a while but then I realised it was impossible to pass him without a mistake. To cure that we either need to keep the longer ratios (maybe even longer), or use tracks that actually have braking points for Jnrs.

The warm up lap combined with the rolling start is not good. In race 2, the actual warm up lap was a lot better but I was constantly worried about people behind me running into me. Willie was right behind me, and I trust him not to smash into me, but still, I want to concentrate on my tyres, not who's behind me. Also the people ahead of me were way too quick, so when the rolling start happened, I was waiting for the Start/Finish line to accelerate, but the people ahead had already gone! Aren't you supposed to wait until you hit the start/finish line?

I think a warmup lap would be good, but only if there is a couple of karts distance between each driver, then we should lineup on the grid in our grid boxes.

Overall though it's nice to be racing karts with guys like Lancer and Willie again 👍 and maybe Jammy too 👍

Unless it's different in this series, you go when the leader crosses the line.

Rolling start can be done so that when kart front of you start accelerating then you can go too.
Leader start the race on the start/finish line when he/she start accelerating and then others follow.

Just to clarify, racing will definitely be on wednesdays?

It's up for discussion, but, I was happy with turn-out. Attendance was a plus, yesterday! :)

I can confirm that a new starting "method" or new rules are in the works. We'll have to decide whether it's best to run standing starts in grid boxes, or rolling starts (with the leader crossing the start/finish line starting the race)

Welcome. :)

Any spaces? And what time and day is it? It would be nice to get back in the karts.

I think at some point an endurance race should be scheduled.

I'm willing to run it, if there's interest. It will be a spot race. :)

Also, I'm finished with my decisions about re-organizing the race starts:

W.M.A. Driver's Handbook
  • Anticipate the green. Be sure to apply the throttle at the optimal time.
  • Don’t pass before the start/finish line: This will incur a penalty, pending a
  • Steward’s review/investigation.
  • Ask your Series’ Race/Series Director about the series-specific details about the Race Starts. Knowing the procedures for every eventuality will help save you time!
  • Anticipate end-of-race follow-ups. If an incident occurs, do not retaliate. I know, anger sets in quickly, but, it’s unacceptable. Anyone who retaliates about being hit, will be penalized, and the driver retaliated against might NOT get a penalty. All of this will follow a Steward’s review/investigation/inquiry.
  • As with all other aspects of the Forum/chat box conduct requirements, please refrain from negatively discussing the start, or anyone involved, openly/publicly. Private Message the participating steward(s.)
  • Standing starts are run from the Grid Boxes (ask your Race Director if this is unclear) at a given time (as displayed on the “Total Race Timer”, following a formation lap.

These are all tips which are being taken from the W.M.A. Driver's Handbook. This specific section was rushed, to be finished in advance of Wednesday's race. It is subject to change.

However, please note:

We will be running standing starts.
Passing BEFORE the start/finish line denotes a false-start, and may be penalized, following a Steward's review. The penalty will be a post-race finishing order penalty, equal to the number of drivers overtaken before the start/finish line.

Where i can find that W.M.A. Driver's handbook?

It's a work-in-progress. I'm sorry. It won't be fully available until next week, at the earliest.

I have 17 chapters to write, and about 70 ish tracks to add pictures of, etc. I can't give too much away, but you'll understand why it's taking a while, when it's finished.

Anyways, if anyone has any questions about the standing starts or the Driver's Handbook, don't refrain from asking! Please, I'll give you the most accurate answer possible.

Finally, I've generated the Kart course that we'll be using this week. It has several hairpins, an s-turn, and a chicane. It will be available for download on my GT5 profile. I recommend downloading it, to get acquainted before hand. It's a short track, and it doesn't take long to learn and memorize it.

Then you must pm everyone and tell them to add you as an friend, in order to download the track ;)

I have filled out the registration form :)

Does the racing start this wednesday? Also sent MrMelancholy15 a FR.

There's a second preseason race with Wednesday, then racing for points starts next Wednesday. :) I like to get everyone/everything sorted in advance.
