@IBZ6L20VT It was more that it felt like 100% brake pressure was being applied within the first 20% of the shoulder button travel, so with such a small window between no braking and locking up it felt impossible to modulate. Would have been easy to tune out with brake pressure/bias tweaks but that's the downside of running standard setups. I'll be getting a T300 with 599XX rim in the next month or so, but until then I'll try not to be a workman who blames his tools!

@John Wells It wasn't an old car thing as they're the only cars I race (I find moderns boring), I've not encountered these issues with the 300 SL or Agajanian we've been racing on Mondays. But like you said the M1 is a lot more lively than in PC1, just like it should be! I had a passenger lap around the Ring with an ex-works driver a couple of years ago, vid below. That sound!

I'll just give you space to overtake more naturally if it happens again. Sorry again

Cool lap!

During the first laps I was probably using that much pedal travel. When brakes warmed up a bit I was able to push a bit harder. Braking in this car is always hairy stuff anyway.

I have a T300 (non 599XX) and is a pretty decent wheel. I am happy with it. I complemented it with T3PA pedals and TH8A shifter.

Is anyone interested on me posting a lap with this car in the next track so you can check brake points and driving approach? I don’t mind doing it if someone finds it useful.

Is it possible to do a time trial lap and for us slower drivers to try to follow your ghost. I am not sure how that works in this game, but it might be a way for John and I to improve our lines around the track. Another possibility would be a session at the weekend where we follow you (or another fast driver) around the track. Years ago I used to do this with Flaco on GT5 and by following him for a few laps I was able to improve by a couple of seconds a lap.

Maybe there is something that can be done in the setup of the hand controller? I don't know, but your performance without a wheel has been very impressive. I found the car locked up very easily and I had to brake very early and very gently. Unfortunately I crashed halfway through the first lap - I didn't seem to have the same feeling with the car as I had during qualifying. I also used the wrong number car - I should be 35 so 14 which is a nice scheme (similar to the one used by Nelson Piquet) is available next week.

When you get the wheel Joe, let us know what you think. In a previous series we did a brief feature each week about each virtual racer and their rig - I've been thinking of restarting that - perhaps after Christmas.

@Sick Cylinder , do you do any practice for thees combos? Theese are really tough. I do 1-2 sessions 0,5-1 h. As for Willow I had no more 5 clean laps in first session. Really fast guys very quickly start doing good laps, others need more time. When I was doing time trials in GT6 I needed at least 3 hours to get quite good laps for me (aliens needed no more 30 min.). And to do my best I needed 8-12 h a week on a that single combo. Of course I improved a bit and now I need a bit less time. I think there are 3 ways to be better driver - practice, practice and practice.
As for me I can't ride behind somebody in close distance. I need more space :). Thats why my result at finish allways worse then qually.

We had "comunity" events on GT6: Friday night beer room, and Sunday at Nordshleife with boost. This one was wery usefull for me, because I learned ride in pack. If mistake was done I could catch others due boost.

If somebody is interested in something like this I would join. We could do MON and WED combos practices online.

I am happy to help. So, count with me for whatever could help any of you. I think that the experience improves a lot when you feel that you are in control of the car and able to put a good lap together. It is not about winning. We all have our paces. It's about the joy of racing.

I personally agree with @Napalm_LT and I think that a ghost would be more helpful than following another car on track. With the ghost you avoid the risk of an accident and you can reload it as many times as you want. Also you can concentrate on the first corners and when you nail them you can follow the ghost and see how it manages the next set of corners. However, as I said, I am open to any option.

I am also ok with running some practice races during the weekends if that helps. I think that could complement any other training you have.

I will look on how to provide a ghost during the weekend. I'll figure something out. I had in mind to produce a clip in YouTube commenting the lap but I feel that requires more skills and software than what I have available!

I usually train these races in private session for one hour or so the weekend before, if I have the time. Sometimes I just jump onto it the same day.

From now on I'll do it online and post here that I set up a lobby so anyone can join.

Last. I have my own style and everyone have theirs. Maybe my way of achieving times will not be suitable for everyone. I watched @Friday_GTRP replay during lunchtime and we have different approaches for some of the corners. We even used different gears on a couple of corners. However, we ran very close lap times.

@Friday_GTRP I noticed that my ping was all over the place when it should be stable and fairly good. I have a cabled 100Mb upload/download connection and my ping is always shown in green. Is definitely something weird going on with the live ping.

I don't thing ghost is a better way to learn from faster guy. When you use much faster guys ghost it will go away in the first corners and you will learn one thing - this guy is really quick :)

Much better (for me) is to watch what actually do this guy: his lines, steering, brake, accel. inputs and etc.
In GT6 GTP time trials I always downloaded fastest guys lap replays (sadly they appeared after TT deadline :) ), tried to copy them and I usually did better laps in the very first 30 min. (as I said in previous post, I usually spent 8-12 h till that), so it show how helpful could be theese tips. Of course, sometimes you see what faster guy do actually the same as you, but somehow his lap is few seconds better :).
As egz. Zolder - I had trouble in the slowest esses, I used there 1 gear, but in practice lobby I noticed @Friday_GTRP use 2 there. I did the same and it helped a lot (I wouldn't noticed this from ghost).

So I think there only two ways in PC2 to learn from faster guys (while there is no possibility to upload someone replay and there is no HUD in replay anyway):
1. Watch video where you see HUD.
2. Watch how they driving in the same lobby.

When you learn lines, braking, accelerating, you need to do that in the pack with other guys (what I need mostly).

This is only my opinion and I am just mid skiled driver (if not less) :)

Yeah you guys have all valid points, in my 20 years of sim racing i've learned that there's allways going to be someone faster.
You learn the most by watching other drivers input (throttle, brake, steering) and then try to replicate that.
Which can be very hard because you have developed a driving style you are comfortable with.

Ghosts alone isn't going to help much if the lap time difference is to much.
What helped me the most are the video's from @dyr_gl , they are advertised as that everybody can be an alien.
Spoiler : Not possible, but you learn what to do and what not to do. And in that proces makes you a better driver.

Found this video Donington Park 1979, look at how much the track has changed. People also very close to the track and amount of trees. There has been lots of in fill, on the inside of the track, over the years.

Thanks for posting John - you beat me to it! I was just about to post the Donington race highlights clip. I wonder if that was shown on Grandstand or World of Sport? There aren't many clips of the 1979 and 1980 Pro Car races on YouTube - so far I've only found Donington and Monaco. We aren't replicating the Monaco round in our championship because I think the "Azure Circuit" in the game is really poor for racing on - even worse than the original!

Should be a good race tonight - hopefully I can stay on the track and keep out of the way of the leaders - being a short track there could be a lot of lapping of slower drivers by the fast guys - everyone please take extra care when being lapped. Also brake early for the first corner and be prepared to change lines to avoid first corner collisions.

Brief (and late) report of the race from my point of view.

Had a good qualifying where I improved my practice time and allowed me to start first.

Then, disaster. The race screen came to life and after the images of your car from the exterior the view goes to interior. At that point my wheel started turning to the right at a high speed. I stopped it but wasn’t unsure on to where the wheels were pointing. Panic.

The starting lights were doing the countdown whilst I was trying to figure out if my wheels were straight. I knew that Sick forces interior view so I didn’t try to get a look outside the car. Lights came to green and I get away but with the chaos I have forgotten to engage first gear. By the time I was starting to move I was already second with lots of pressure from third and fourth.

Then first corner. I left enough room for Friday as we were side by side at the entry. He disappeared then and noticed he went into fifth.

The rest of the race was me trying to put as much time as possible between me and Friday. Trying to achieve that and also my potential 1:08.2xx I made a mistake and lost 10 seconds. From that point on I just tried to manage my advantage whilst holding the pressure from Simba at first and then Friday in the end.

Good result despite my mistake. Missed a bit more battling though.

As I had my rig set up I decided to run 5 practice laps at the next track.

Find attached a sub 2:20 lap. I was braking quite early as I was learning the track so there is time to gain.

People will find difficult to find braking points in the forest section as there are no distance markers.

My offer of sharing practice sessions is always over the table. Just drop a message in PSN and I’ll be glad to help.

Just a last line on this combo. The car feels great on this 80’s (maybe 90’s) layout SMS chose to set this track. I missed this Hockenheimring variant. It’s been a good number of years since the last time I (virtually) drove here.

Enjoy!

I had strange experience at Silverstone. Did 1 hour practice at TUE, had no more 10 clean laps and best was hight 2.11. In the @AndreasR practice lobby yesterday car feels completely different - track was slippery, car has massive oversteer and I managed only 2.14 - 3 seconds slower that I did on TUE. From that practice lobby we moved right to @Sick Cylinder lobby for race and after first few corners I noticed that my cars feels "right" again and in qually I did 2,09,5 - more that 5 seconds better than in @AndreasR lobby. Did anyone else expierenced that and what could be the problem?

I haven't had this problem myself, but there is a thread about it.

Good race everyone, car handled well at Silverstone. I couldn't keep up with the fast guys, saw disappearing into the distance. So just wanted too race with Sick he was quite close, in first couple of laps, did you have a spin?

Didn't have any under steer problems, but allays find the green stuff on the track edge slippery.

My experience is that I can run very similar lap times with really minor handling differences between the time trial I set to record the lap I post here, Simba’s training, qualifying and race.

I believe those minor differences come mainly from the fuel load and also from some environmental changes such as wind, temperatures, amount of sunlight, time of the day and ultimately rubber on track.

This last bit I think is rather important and sometimes gets overlooked. For instance, when I joined Simba’s practice room everyone was on the pits, so the track got slower as laps passed by. Track got colder and no rubber was being laid. Qualifying was the opposite. All of us on track, really going for it. Track improved as rubber was being added lap after lap and track temperatures were being maintained or even increased.

I did online practice and was alone, so I don't think it was due to less count of players while practicing in @AndreasR lobby. 5 players would left same amount of rubber during first 10 minutes, as I left during 50-60 min. And I alone was more than 3 seconds faster than I was in @AndreasR lobby.
