Ooo you're way ahead, don't think I can compete with you this week looks like you're gonna pull one back on me! Now its 2/1!!!

Isn´t it a tad bit early to declare defeit already? The challenge has only been up for almost a day, theres six more days to go

As is my custom, Please find a rather sexy GT5 image for this weeks event both below and on the time sheet :)

You were right about shifting early, only did 3 laps, at least half a sec to come off that!

Just uploading the replay to youtube now. It's a rather messy lap, but was a clean one as the only off I had was wide on turn 5 which slowed me slightly (you'll see in the replay)

I found that the first hairpin was marginally quicker to slide (again, see replay) as the car naturally stepped out when I came off the brakes. Does snap back a little at times, but nothing that cant be handled. The lap is very much a 'by the seat of my pants' kinda lap, which isnt my usual style, but I love the AEM s2000 for drifting so the 'edge of my pants' bit is more my willpower stopping me from pulling the handbrake... :D

Great lap nj72, really pushing that car to the limit, fantastic driving!

Great pick NJ72 :)
By the way, I see you have not updated my time from week 2 yet.
It was 1:38.801

Thanks. That's what I meant about by the seat of my pants lol.

and sorry no1pal, have updated week 2 with your time. My bad

Also, one tip for this particular car is that it comes with a mid-range turbo as stock, not a high range. Therefore the optimal shift is actually at 8000 rpm, not at the red line. You may find yourself securing an extra half a second per lap because of that as after 8000 the power drop is insane.
Good tip, I forgot about that at first :)

I had a go this morning and didn't think I'd get on with the car/track combo, I wasn't going to bother but decided to have another go earlier and set a 27.2. Short shifting puts you almost a car length ahead right after the line; the only problem was, I'd put in a lot of laps before so it took me about 15 minutes to re-adjust my braking points to the faster entry speeds and set a quicker time.

I also changed back to my usual controls, so that might have helped a bit too; some might think I'm completely mad but I don't use the sticks ;) (other than for drifting or 700PP+) as the way I hold the controller means using them feels sort of "loose" and I can't really drive with as much conviction (plus it gets uncomfortable after a while). I was using the sticks so I could assign the dir. pad for the RA menu, but I've found a better way to assign them.

Driver: mizx / zu3-

Brake Balance: 8/7

I think I can get it sub 1:25 with a really good first corner and Corkscrew. I'm only using 2nd for the Corkscrew and the last corner, staying in 4th for corners 9 and 10.

As usual, I'm loving the challenge. Great car, track and tire combo. I'll be honest, because of the stickers and it being a drift car, I'd have never driven this car otherwise. It's a wonderfully balanced little monster that I very nearly missed out on.

I've followed the advice earlier in the thread about shifting at 8000 and went in doing that. I also had a ghost car running on better rubber to chase. It showed me that my braking points are terrible. And it gave me a taste of what the aliens are going to bring to the grid later in the week. There's still some time to find in there. I know I can crack 1:25s.

Oh the aliens...

I wouldn't change the challenge for the world. It's a hidden gem. And I second the idea of the Mclaren at GVS and the Cobra, well, anywhere. Keep them coming.

one other thing to remember is you can adjust the down force on the rear ( I almost as a course of habit set it to full on every car!)

Cya,
Hankster

I'll be trying my luck later tonight!

Ok, I know how to adjust the Break Balance using the NA (or whatever it's called) but how do you adjust the Down Force?

Edit:
OMG I'm twelve seconds behind!

Edit 2:
Nvrmnd, wrong tyres. Doink!

(Cough, I hate this track).

Have I mentioned how much I do not like this track?

Seriously though, I probably won't try any more this week. I'm not a fan of this particular car and Laguna Seca is my second least favorite track.

Waiting patiently for next week. Any hint?

Doh!

ARCADE MODE CAR ONLY!!!

Loads of amazingly quick laps, really honestly incredible. Thanks for all taking part again!
Looks like I'm gonna have to be hitting the track tonight to find some more time and then I'll put my lap time in! :)

Heres something strange. When i press 'start' to start my laps i hit the brakes and come to stand still to adjust brake bias and the 3, 2 & 1 markers on the right hand side of the track all fall over.

Anyways

Thanks to NJ72 for the tip!!!
Manual is definitely the way to go, 127.5 is around max for auto due to not being in the powerband.
I can actually see me getting 1.25's with luck as I'm not too good with manual gears on DS3!

How can I upload replay from PS3 as I don't have a PC?

Could borrow a laptop , but I'm no good with computers!

updated list with the recent times. Wish i hadn't as im not the fastest anymore :grumpy: lol

Just means i'll have to hit the track again and try to find another second! (god I wish it was that easy...)

Great driving so far people. The more I run it the more I like the track I guess. And the car I have always loved. Mainly for drifting, but you slap some softs on it and it'll make other cars in it's class weep.

You either need an HDMI recorder (so a DVD recorder which is attached to your TV) or a PC with a webcam to vid it. There the only ways really... short of putting a camera phone on a table infront of your TV whilst you play back the replay.

One other option is to export the replay save file to the XMB (I believe it is a backup tool within GT5) and upload it to a filesharing site. Then other WDSC runners can download it to their PS3 and watch it back there. That is rather long winded though, so I doubt you'd get many people viewing it...

Sadly GT5 has no export to youtube option as that would be AMAZING! (if you're listening PD... :P)

EDIT: Good time though Phil, really getting the hang of the car now it seems

Yeah its growing on me, I am having much more fun with MT as well but I need a lot of practice before I'm quicker than auto on most other car/tracks!

Can't help thinking it would have been better with stock tyres (CS) though!

Go in to GT Life mode, buy on and take it out on GVS. Don't do anything to it, just take it out stock. you'll fall in love.

Most cars it isn't so beneficial to use manual, unless you put a mid-range turbo in them. The mid-range and low-range turbos usually mean the optimal shift point is lower than the red line, it's just a case of getting used to each individual car. For example, another car that suits an earlier change is the Fully tuned DLC VW bug. It has more power with a mid-range than with a high-range and it also helps it's abysmal accelleration.

On the whole shot though, as the cars this 'series' runs are not tuned in any way (other than the racing cars) most of them will run straight up to the red line. If not then I'm sure a user or two will pass on advice as I have with this one :) 👍

I can video it on my phone but when I connect to PS3 it doesn't show which is wierd as the phone is Sony Erricsson.
That would have been ideal as you can upload to Youtube in the video section of XMB.
I exported save data so can I send it to someone?

EDIT^
LOL I did that exact thing last night, bought one and took it to GVS, drifting round every corner and spinning them in a straight line when it hits 6000rpm - BEAUTIFUL:tup:

Did about 15 laps, but I just can't get any consistency using DS3. Haven't really been on this track in GT5 either so struggling to find braking and turn-in, especially with the Poltergeist and some idiot in an S2000 knocking over the distance markers :dunce:

Hopefully I'll get a wheel session this week.
