Yes, this sounds like a fun competition, I love Laguna Seca :D

My time will be in soon enough 👍

Thanks for the interest! Hope we begin seeing you every week!

Where is the RA Menu?
And where can you find it?

I had a peek in Arcade mode (A very dusty place in GT5 for me) just to see if the track was like it is in GT Mode... ah the happy days of Arcade mode in the first game, Track seems to be a carbon copy of the one you get in GT Mode... Trylon looks good when you are pootling about.

Only run bone stock Comfort Softs, none of that ABS and Traction control guff but I couldn't find any way to get the brake bias sorted out. Bit gloomy in the car so used the road kill cam, only did a 1m40 but the back end was wanting to play... good for dirty rubber action; not so good for putting the anchors on or getting the car stable for a clean exit.

A micron turn of the S2000’s steering sends it spearing smoothly into a meeting with Mr Apex as the slick chassis soaks up bumps like aluminium kitchen foil and the skinny comfort tyres grip like a crazed puppy on your kitchen floor. On the hard entry to the Rainey Curve I really upped the ante to ten-tenths by lifting the the thirsty throttle. All at once the titchy tail stepped wide, I caught it with a dab of oppo and I was away.

Just had a message via psn from cooldawn stating he is unable to access gtp, so he may be forced to pull out, he said his time however was 1:26.977.

@Ryk: the RA Menu is accessible through your controller buttons as you are driving. You have to set them up on the Options: Controller menu on your main screen.
It takes five buttons: one to access the menu (R3 for me). Two to go up and down the menu (triangle and square) and two to change the settings (circle and X). Its very helpful, especially in endurance races and TTs.

Driver: JakobJ79/JakobJ79
Time: 1:28.061
Transmission: Manual (without clutch)
Controller: wheel / G25
ABS: 1
Brake Balance: (5/5)

I think maybe with some more time there is maybe another .5 of a second to be had will give it later on a try again

Good time! Always nice to see new participants! :D

What track edge grip settings are we supposed to use? real or the other one?

Its down to your own personal preference, I use low and have done since I bought gt5, though I'm not sure it makes a lot of difference on a dry track, I think its designed to act on wet tracks, to simulate the track edges on wet tracks in real life. Hope that helps and that all of us here get to see you take part 👍.

No problem and some nice laps you're laying down. Try going into settings and assigning the d pad on the wheel to change brake balance. Hope that helps 👍

Found out how!! ^^

Another 8 laps later..

Driver: Evolvedsoul/Evolved08

Transmission: Manual (No Clutch)
Controller: G27
ABS:1
Brake Balance: 9:7

Brake balance adjustment really improves lap times that much? Wow.

I was surprised myself. I also read what people wrote about how shifting earlier keeps it in the powerband. I shifted a tad before it hit 8K and that helped most of all..

You learn all the time. Cheers. Ronald

just spent 2 and half hours trying to cough up a Vertigo from a Level 23 ticket... Could have spent that lapping Laguna Seca... hmm how does the cars pace compare to the ENduro in Aspec AI pace...

I was also typing out this bad boy while trying for that yellow Banana Car

If you're planning on giving this week's run a go ryk then it is definately worth reading my earlier post. It states that the AEM s2000 has a mid-range turbo and is best to shift at around 8000rpm even though it has a near 10k redline :)

Also, i said it in the other post, and i'll say it here too. Your track write ups are great :) 👍 have a chat with LMP787B for next week's track (when it's been decided) if you want some inspiration for the next write up lol

Still grinding away at it. Brake balance seems to help with the consistency. I'm trying to shift up even a little before 8000, but I'm not sure if it's working or I'm just taking better lines.

New time is 1:25:720.

I'm losing all my time in the corners after the corkscrew. I don't know about breaking the 1:24 barrier, but I might see mid to low 1:25s at the end of this.

Things are really starting to heat up. Good luck all.

Driver: rheinaoi / challah_rajni
Time: 1:25:720
Transmission: Manual (no clutch)
Controller: Wheel (DFGT)
ABS: 1
Brake Balance: (5/3)

Hey, if he can only send PSN messages then get him to send a PSN with the details in (same as he would post on here) then you could relay the info?

EDIT:
rheinoi
New time is 1:25:720

Damn man, good pace!

EDIT 2 (because editing once is like SO last year):

Have updated the times list. Good to see some new names on there! and great to see so many back for another week's action!

Still curious as to where the hell i'm gonna get enough time to challenge rheinoi's time... I think 1:25 is pushing the limits of both me and driving with a DS3...

Yeah I wil try to speak to him later, although I advised him to create a new account such as cooldawn1, 1:25 is a fabulous time, I'm still on 1:28, but I didn't try yesterday and only did 10 laps on sunday, will definetly put in some better laps tonight!

@NJ72 hows the leaderboard coming along? Also thanks for the tip about shifting, should save me a bunch of time 👍

@ryk thanks for the guide will definetly refer back to that for ways to improve.

Anyway thanks for all the support and making this competition really come alive. Keep putting the laps in guys! 👍

Update:

woodski_427/woodski_427
1:29.859
DS3
ABS=1
Brake Balance 7:4

Done another 20 laps with DS3: still all over the place, but getting a bit more consistent with a handful of 1:29.xxx. Changing the brake balance helps alot in preventing sideways corner entry and shifting at about 7900 has improved acceleration.

My biggest problem with DS3 is the lack of sublety with the steering inputs, especially if I have to make a correction. This is causing me to lose a lot of time at the corkscrew.:banghead:

@LMP787B

You might want to change the link in for sig to week 3 :)

Just a tip with the steering subtlety, if you go in to the driving aids menu (the one with what looks like a volume knob) then lower the 'controller sensitivity' that should help to control a car like this as it slows down the steering response slightly so you dont veer all over the place 👍

Yeah nice time! Will do that tonight when I have access to a computer, I'm on my phone you see...
Thanks for the heads up! 👍 good luck improving your times :)

Yes, I think I set it to -1 when I started the game, I'll check and try it all the way down (-3?). Thanks for the reminder.

I just don't get to play the game that much so have never gained any finesse with the DS3 - it's OK for most of the seasonals and such like, general mucking around, and great for drifting.

Obviously much prefer my old DFP + wobbly table but it's the usual 'main TV, wife, kids' stuff that means it's a rare treat! Though I'll only normally drive the Nordschleife or over 600pp with the wheel - too much of a fight with DS3 and not enjoyable.

Nevertheless, I'll endeavour to have a go at these challenges when I can - it's good fun and something a bit different:tup:

Glad that the week #3 competition stayed at Laguna Seca. This track is near and dear to my heart, my brother and I camped/vacationed here about a decade ago before the demands of life (school, work, babies, dragons, etc.,) became too great. We stayed overnight at the 'Grand Prix Campground' overlooking turn #6 for a couple nights on a non-race weekend ~ $8/night. I've heard that when MotoGP comes to town, our same site can go for $300/night. (Not verified but, seems possible.) Anyway...love this track!

I am, I just wish I had more time to focus on it. About 20-30 minutes a night is all I can eke out.👎

Hmm unlucky, do you have more time available at the weekend? :)

Not really, I photograph weddings/engagements/family portraits on the weekends for extra income. However, it is my little daughter (4 months old) who gets the most of my attention; she is an adorable, wriggling ball of energy that I gladly and willingly give my attention and time to.

Weird segue, but I found shifting at 7,500rpm to be the optimum shift point.

Aww nice :) sounds good, will have my second go at laguna later and will test out shifting at 7500 - 8000 rpm. 👍
