Due to time constraints, I decided to bring the RS back for another week...

Naptown25rs / NCemtB / Ford Focus RS '02 / 1:35.004 / 416pp

Hopefully we have more than 2 1/2 guys planning to attend... I might jump into the ORCA lounge tonight instead if no one else commits before race time.

I am still out for tonight, but my schedule may have changed to where I can run next week the 12th. Sorry I can't make it tonight, could go for a good dose of Parity Racing.

So far so good. Been very busy at work, busiest Fri-Mon I can recall in quite some time but as of this moment, I'm all caught up. If it changes I'll post here, otherwise expect me to be there tonight!

Just a heads up, if weather and work permits I'll be up salmon fishing again this weekend. My return date is flexible but likely not before Tuesday and it depends on the salmon:sly:. If you guys are willing and want to change to a later day of the week this one time so I can make it that would be cool. I wouldn't normally suggest that at all if we were having bigger crowds but it's something to consider if there are only a handful of us at each event. I'll update as the week goes along...

Now that I think about it, it's something we might have considered this week if it meant that Track might make it on a different night.

Ugh... It appears that my internet connection has taken a **** at the moment. Hopefully it will be back up soon, but if its anything like last time, it'll be several hours.

Wow, some of the best racing we've had here in the Parity League and only 3 of us!! We had 4 races, 5 laps each after a warm up heat, and the winning gap was less than a second each time and in 3/4 races, all three of us were within a second at the line. Okay we cheated a bit in the fourth race when one of us spun and we slowed to let them catch up but other than that it was flat out all the way and incredibly close racing. It really came down to a race of mistakes as everyone was driving so well and so close to the lap time target every single lap, and there were very few minor errors made that allowed for easy passes. You had to work hard to set up a draft pass on the front straight and even then it was hard to make it stick.

Next week we'll slow things down a bit on CM tires. PSN is down at the moment for maintenance but I'll run a few laps offline and come up with a target, factoring in a little less grip converting the times to online.

I was late, sorry, but glad I made it, we had closer racing the 3 of us than we had a few times with more racers, no contacts, just pure fun.
With this formula I have very competitive racing with Johnny who is probably 3 second faster than I am if we where to race with similar cars.
Really curious than there is not a better participation for those events.
Life is full of mysteries!!!
Thank you Ferrari and Johnny for a fun evening of SIM racing online.
PS: Everyone was racing with ABS0 tonight.:)

See below for updated targets...

Amazing that we could race so close together without ABS. Several corners side by side too:crazy: I too am at a loss as to why people aren't flocking to this type of racing. Must be an awareness thing combined with swiftly declining interest in GT5 in general. Can't recall how many hundreds of posts I've read about the poor quality of racing and guys just looking for a respectful and laid back place to race and this is it!! And everyone is automatically competitive to boot!!

That was insanely awesome racing tonight. I'll try to get a video or two up of the craziest passes, including the NSX swarm down the main straight. Looking back on the replays, I think I slid through half of the corners!

You did slide through half the corners...lol. I don't know how you maintained control so well with the car sideways half the time and yet you seemed to flow right along either in front, or behind or in between Cote and I. It was some pretty impressive car control I must say 👍👍 You must be a good drifter:idea:

You certainly had a better time than I did tonight. Glad you guys still got to race. Looking forward to trying next week. The downside is my event for the 12th is now the 19th, and then the 26th is my wife's birthday, so I think I will be done for November after next Monday. Although, maybe I should consider a GT5 set up for her gift and she could race with us that night ;). I can just smell the divorce papers now hehe.

If you get her a GT5 setup for her birthday I can almost guarantee you'll be in the doghouse, if not the lawyer's office.:dunce::dunce:

Considering our low turnout lately, I would not object to switching to another night until December, so long as we can all agree to it. Most weeknights are about the same to me, Mon-Thu anyway. Let's see what everyone else has to say about it.

I'm fine with changing to a different night if it allows others the chance to race...

The way my schedule works, I'm on duty different days each week for a 4 week rotation, then it starts all over... So I'm always going to miss at least one Monday a month not counting any overtime that I might pick up on additional race nights.

Whatever is best for everyone 👍

there is only two evenings when I can race, Monday and Thursday. Monday is the most likely, but if Monday does not work for most, then Thursday is also possible.
Tuesday and Wednesday I am most of the time travelling, so exceptionaly it might work, but most likely not. Since I am in hotel room, I can still play and connect, but the connection is not good enough to race online.
Next week my only available night is Monday, Tursday I will still be away.
The following week, Thursday will a better day for me, as I might not be available on Monday night.
Like some other, I have no objection changing the day to suit a better attendance and will understand if it changed to a day I might not be available if it accomodate a larger group.
Ferrari, congratulation on you sliding control, I have no idea how you do it, but it is very entertaining to watch.

If you can time travel Cote, just get to Thursday and jump back to Monday and then you can race..:sly: Looks like maybe we can keep next weeks' date and then maybe move the following week to Thursday.

On a side note, it appears although not fully confirmed, that the online physics we know and love (or hate as the case may be) are now dead, and the old offline physics model now rules. That's the rumour with last nights update. It means our cars will now be a little more stable with a little more grip but also a little more understeer for FF's and 4WD's. I'll try to get online tonight to test it out in relation to next week's target time but as I mentioned yesterday I ran the time offline to begin with because GT5 was down for the maintenance/update.

Next Thursday, the 21st is Thanksgiving for the US, so I know for me that is out.

I am getting tired of the changes to the game with these updates. At this point in the game's life, enough is enough. It is what it is, tired of having to adjust tunes just because PD keeps flip flopping things. Another fellow racer PM'ed that the cars seem much tighter (understeer).

Offline physics are tighter. Some cars are so tight it's tough to get them to rotate without a ton of ballast in the rear and practically setting up the car to wheelie, the front end was so high. I remember the Shulze TT where I was challenged by Praiano to better his time and ended up at the most extreme ride height settings possible of +60/0 and I still couldn't get the car to break loose in the back end. Couldn't add ballast either because you were penalized for the added weight. I ran in the ITCC series last weekend in the Civic RM and had +20/-20 ride height settings and it still was fairly neutral. I might have to go to the max now to get it to rotate:crazy:

On the other hand, cars that were a little too oversteery before, for some of us anyway, will move more towards neutral. Most of the MR's in the game on their stock tires for example should be a little more manageable. Some people are reporting better feel and better transition from over to understeer and vice versa. I think in the end it'll be a positive change, it'll just take some getting used to, but yeah, it's a pain to have to retune stuff. This is why I considered, but never opened a Tuning Garage on GTPlanet, too many changes would negate a whole body of work.

New Target:

Deep Forest Reverse - 1:39.0 on CM Tires

I was able to achieve this time in a lightly tuned 97' Civic at 370pp online.

Sorry for the late change fellas, but after you get some seat time under the new physics you'll understand why. 2 things have changed primarly.

1. Overall grip is a little higher. I took my IS200 out, same one I drove last night. Best I did last night was 34.8 after a slight PP adjustment when Cote and I were running alone. At my Q PP, my best was a 35.001 outside of the draft in 20 laps. With the new physics, I did about 6 laps with a best of 34.2 and several laps in the 34.5-35.7 range. Easily we are now a half to a full second faster under identical setups if this translates to all other cars.

2. The car handling is now more predictable. The transition to oversteer and controllability is now enhanced. Last night before the update, I babied the car into the double right hander at the bottom of the course because I didn't want the back end kicking out for fear I'd lose it. Today I could go slightly deeper, brake slightly longer, kick the back end out and do a beautiful powerslide entry into the corner. Looks and feels awful purty and it's slightly faster too.

I took the Civic out and it was just too boring at 1:42. I kicked it up a few notches and we could probably go even lower than 1:39 but I think it'll be some good momentum racing at 370 PP on CM tires.

Thanks for all the work and the updated information Johnny. Sounds like online isn't as terrible as some are stating.

Depends on your viewpoint I guess. Some guys like the looseness that online used to have, some prefer the predictability and increased stability it now has. The differences are fairly subtle to a casual player, fairly pronounced for those really into tuning and driving on the edge. I tried out my Civic RM that I ran for 30 laps at Tsukuba on Saturday and it plowed like a bulldozer. On Saturday it drove like a dream..for an FF...lol. I increased the ride height difference to +45/-20:crazy: and it was still tighter than it was on Saturday with much lower settings. However, I took it to GVE and whereas before it was almost uncontrollable in the double right after the esses, now it's smooth as silk there:idea:

Overall I think it's a positive change, it should make for a little better racing, I'm just worried the 4wd's and FF's may become extremely difficult to tune.

Welcome aboard Tron thanks for giving us a look:tup: In the OP you will find the instructions regarding where to send an FR. We race in a private lounge so there's no public interference. And don't worry, you can't be slow...lol. We qualify to a time so everyone is the same speed from flag to flag. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask we're all happy to help.

Just so you know, we are in a bit of a transition phase here. Shortly we'll be launching a new thread as our original host Mike is now unavailable for our North American Time Slot so we've decided to spin off to maintain control of the OP of the thread.

If we can offer a piece of advice its to choose cars you are comfortable driving and can be consistent in. Tune if you like or not, to achieve this, but you'll have your best racing if you can run consistent laps. Hanging out the back end of a Yellowbird is a great spectacle, but it's tough to run repeatable laps with it so pick cars that you enjoy and are confident driving. If that's a Yellowbird by the way, my hat is off to you!..lol.

Welcome Tron. If you come with the right attitude and give this group a try or two, I think you will find this to be some of the most fun you have had with GT5. I have done numerous series/leagues and have found this to be the most rewarding. Johnny was actually one of the first guys I started racing against (if you want to call it that). Straight up Johnny is a good chunk faster than I am. I always enjoyed any laps where I could run with him...it just wouldn't last long. In this group, I can run a full race nose to tail, or side by side with him and all the other guys. This group has managed to keep the interest of both the very talented, championship caliber driver and the more amateur, weekend warrior type driver. You don't find too many groups where everyone is just as happy for the winner as the winner. It is all about the racing, not just the final position. It is a supportive group who enjoys the competition and friendship.
