Dirt 5

Did I make some good choices, and are they fun to play? I've never played the Dirt racing series before.
Dirt 5 is good for a quick blast of arcade action, with Dirty Rally 2.0 the more serious rally offering, so it really depends what you're looking for.

Dirt 5 is more Grid on dirt tracks than any serious racing, which has its charms of course, and it is quite pretty graphically.

Maybe Paradise Killer or Snowrunner. Or A Short Hike? Or Lonely Mountains: Downhill? Or... Yeah, I have no idea. Would quite like to carry on with Spider-Man Miles Morales and Ridge Racer Type 4 too at some point. And Superhot: Mind Control Delete. I've also got DLCs for Outer Wilds, Cloudpunk and Wreckfest to play, too...
Turns out my next move would be to play both Frog Detective games, a bit of Reventure and a couple of races on Horizon Chase Turbo.

The Frog Detective games were good, I mean the gameplay is extremely simplistic but the writing is funny in a way that games that try to be funny never are, they're very Australian and sarcastic. Looking forward to the next one which should be out this year.

Reventure is unfortunately one of those games that tries to be funny but isn't quite as funny as it thinks it is, but is still quite funny. I have no idea why I bought it (or when I bought it) but I'm glad I did.

Finally, Horizon Chase Turbo is an odd one; it's obviously well-made for a game of its type, but it doesn't do a great job of making me actually want to play it, I don't think I've ever done more than one race in one sitting. It's fine, though, can't really say much more than that.

Moving on, I've got Ridge Racer Type 4 working (at 8x native res, in 16:9 and with all sorts of good stuff to make it look vaguely like a PS2 game) but the nearly 50% complete save I started on my Vita is currently on my PC, and my PC is in a box somewhere. I could try to copy my save back off my Vita but I doubt I could run all the software needed on Steam OS... I've also just started The Stanley Parable, but I'm thinking I might wait for a sale on the Ultra Deluxe edition before I continue.

Well thanks for explaining and giving me a better outlook and idea of what the game will consist of, now I can choose more carefully before I buy stuff.

I've actually become slightly hooked on Reventure and have come around to its sense of humour, but even if it wasn't a funny game it's surprisingly complex.

Only thing is it does get repetitive so to mix things up a bit I started and finished Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion today, it's not a long game by any means and I really enjoyed it, like Frog Detective it's legitimately funny but the game itself has a bit more depth.

Snowrunner again. Haven't touched it in months but the free PS5 upgrade has given me an excuse to play it again. Still haven't picked up for the Season 2 pass yet. I have one entire map left from Season 1 to finish off first though, that should keep me going for a while.

GT7 as well. Although I'm in no hurry to do any of the menu books and the final series of license tests. Just happy mucking around with custom GR.3 races and the livery editor for the moment.

I tried to continue the comedy game streak I was on with Procession to Calvary but it wasn't until I was about ten minutes in that I realised it was a sequel, so I'll probably get the first game in the Steam summer sale and play them in order. Funny game, though.

So I've picked up Paradise Killer instead, which isn't funny but is an odd game. As usual I went in more or less blind but I really wasn't expecting what it is.

I played Procession to Calvary without playing the first game. Might pick it up when the third game comes out soon. Anyway, it was definitely a funny little game. I think I got 2 or 3 hours out of it.

Just got a few days ago on ps4 This war of mine the little ones for 4 or 5 bucks.
What a little gem, lovely, well done, immersive, challenging, mature, nice animations.

So few not silly, goofy games, i like dark moody games. Reminds me of metro games, and last of us 1.
I keep being hooked, play one more game day.., hehe.
My 1st run lasted 25 days surviving, it went pretty badly lol, one character did suicide, one abandoned and went away, one died from wounds, one died from sickness lol.

Oh well, can't be perfect always right? 😁, sorry for my inept managing survival my avatars hehe.

Wish more sidescrolling games with modern detailed graphics came out.

Plus i got another tactical turn-based game, these games are like different flavored candy for me, love them. This one is age of sigmar, not the best ever but still fun.

Reminds me a little of warhammer mechanicus, which i love too.

Alright, cheers.

been back to Chivalry II, probably on the lookout for something new until GT7 gets it's act together. also playing cities skylines, its therapy to destroy the horrible freeway designs in my city and start from scratch

The final few races were pain in the rear pipe, but Ridge Racer 6 is now 99.0% complete (the remaining 1.0% apparently unlocks after getting 15,000 points in Pac-Man, which I don't think I'll be able to do). Completed the final movie of the Stuntman Ignition as well, so I'm more or less done with those two games.

Kinda bummed actually, I was having so much fun with both games and I didn't really want them to end.

Metroid Dread. Although I am going to take a little break from that until the weekend. As much as I have been really enjoying it, the latest boss I beat took me a hell of a long time. Think I'm only one more boss away from the final and I'm in no hurry to get there. Going jump back into Slay the Spire tonight. That's only a marginally less frustrating game.

I started Horizon Forbidden West and it looks great on PS5. I'm going with the resolution mode, but with the latest patch the performance mode looks great as well.

Just finished this, I thought the first one was good but the sequel was on another level, amazing game with actually interesting side missions, havent enjoyed a game as much as this since A plague tale: innocence.

Finished forbidden west yesterday which led nicely into GT7's new update today so back on GT7 and lapping the **** out of Watkins Glen, great track!

Playing some survival games, just tried The forest, pretty fun, not as hard as some others, except you got tribes attacking you, at night mostly, for now.
Time goes by so fast when focused on crafting your next useful item to survive, kinda like management/building games like city skylines,,but on a small scale and more immersive, plus thrill of survival.

I also went back a little to Stranded deep, same concept but on small tropical islands, with sunken ships to scavenge from.
It's a little finicky, would help if had a final polish pass but it works.
The underwater part is well done, looks nice with fishes, sharks..

It's more hardcore it seems, lots of trial and error if you don't check 1st what the game lets you do, what you can expect to find, what does what, etc.

But it's part of the challenge i guess, to figure out the ways to survive in game, but it is pretty unforgiving at the beginning, if you mess up, you pretty much are done for.
Need at least know how things work a little, the game doesn't tell much.

Same with Subnautica, harsh at 1st, you die off fast until you find your bearings.
My next one on my wishlist is Green hell, in amazonian jungle hehe, ouch..

I still have in survival genre The long dark game to try more, as well as Subterrain, Darkwood, top down games.
Well after there's subnautica sequel to get some day, if i ever can manage the beginning of the 1st game lol.
Cheers.

Tried subnautica again, finally clicked more to manage the start and get how the game goes.
Its a nice underwater, just would prefer maybe a more realistic style, it be more immersive.
The ocean is plenty mysterious, beautiful, dangerous, varied, as is.

Went back to a little racing, been a while, went for pcars2. Pretty immersive really inside the car, ffb you feel the road so well, sounds.
Was Nordscliffe with a 962, then a 911 gt3 endurance.
Cool stuff,,just the outside and replay sounds aren't so hot. If they do a good sim sequel, hope that gets better.
Cheers.

Sniper Elite 5. First time playing a game in the series. Bit more Hitman style gameplay than I was expecting but really enjoying it. The level design and the amount of detail in each is fantastic.

Bit of GT7 still and some Fall Guys as well, seeing as people are playing it again.

XBox Series X: Forza Horizon 5 | Hot Wheels Unleashed

PS4 Pro: Gran Turismo 7

iPad Pro : Lego Legacy Heroes Unboxed

laptop : Age of Empires I Definitive Edition

Bought ps plus extra to try out demon souls and returnal, I can tell they are both great games but they are too hard and frankly I don't have the patience or the time to replay a whole level everytime die so I jumped back on bf 2042.

I must say including the classic maps into the standard map rotation has made me enjoy the game way more than I have so far.

On my survival binge, i tried some The long dark game, really nicely done. You're in 1st person as usual in these type of games,

but in this one your avatar speaks and emots, plus lot of good sound effects.

Really immersive, i used the female character, and she does a great job of voicing it.
Makes you feel what your character is going thru.
Plus movement, when injured, or near death, wobbling etc. Was feeling guilty lol to put her thru it all hehe.

Since finishing Paradise Killer, which was excellent, I've finished Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, Coffee Talk and Max Payne 2.

Alba is just a lovely game, not a whole lot to it but it's simple, relaxing and fun while it lasts, I'm looking forward to playing it with my son in a couple of years' time.

Coffee Talk is alright, I don't know if it's just that I kept playing it when I was both very comfortable and very tired but it seemed to go on way longer than Steam tells me (3 hours), I'm also not into the "fairytale/fantasy but urban" thing, similar to Bright (the Will Smith film) and The Wolf Among Us, but for what it is it's fine I suppose, basically VA-11 Hall-A but with coffee instead of alcohol and fantasy stuff instead of Cyberpunk.

Then there's Max Payne 2, which was nowhere near as good as I remember but still quite good for its considerable age. I wonder if it was an inspiration for John Wick, actually. But the story wasn't as good as the first game's and the combat was basically just unfairly difficult which pushed you (well, me) to save scum pretty much the second half of the game. And that final boss... It's not often that I want a game to just tell me how a game ends rather than let me play it, but the extremely gamey boss just didn't fit as far as I'm concerned. And the escort mission right before it sucked too.

I've moved on to Olija, which isn't supported on Steam Deck but seems to work, I wonder if that'll change eventually.

Anyone ever play the Syphon Filter series of games on the PS1 / PS2?

I was too young to understand the story when I first picked them up, but replaying them now in order, they'll never do a series like that ever again.

I won't spoil the entire story, but if you like movies like Enemy of the State, and Sum of All fears, this is essentially what the series is about.

To put it lightly. You know how people at your job tend to do some shady things in the background to get a leg up? Amplify it times a hundred when you work for the government. :sly:

Since my last post...

I've completed and finished:

Yoku's Island Express
This was an "offer" from Xbox's Games With Gold and was quite a pleasant surprise! The game's a mixture of platforming and pinball, which works surprising well. Fun and addictive.

Last Stop
Started playing this because it was leaving Game Pass soon and I always like to try new narrative-driven games.
The story starts OK and leaves you wanting to follow it. Unfortunately, the last third of the game is a complete train wreck and doesn't even make sense. A waste of time, in my opinion.

I've started but abandoned:

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising
So repetitive it hurts. I don't know how I was able to put almost 20 hours of gameplay in it. Anyway, it then got to a point where the difficulty sky-rocketed (out of nowhere) and that was it from me.

I've started and I'm still playing:

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
Have just 5 hours into the original ME, but I can see what the fuss is all about. This will be huge.
Good thing it was added to Game Pass. This is my first experience in Mass Effect and I predict I'll be putting many, many hours into it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Been playing this, on and off, co-op with my daughter. Fun brawler and fun partner. She really enjoys being April O'Neil.

I finished my third playthrough of the Elden Ring recently. This gave me plenty of opportunities to get back on my backlogs and also try out old games that I haven't played in a while, so I started my fourth playthrough of the Elden Ring.

There's a big backward compatibility sale for Xbox right now and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance was on it, so I bought it immediately. It's more or less exactly what I expected it to be, although I admit I wasn't expecting it to be kicking my butt this much. Might have to reduce difficulty or something.

Finally, replaying Driver: San Francisco, now that I've replaced my PC's busted GPU with a new one. It's always a grand ol' time.

Finished Olija, it was mostly excellent, the ending was a bit of a letdown but I enjoyed pretty much everything else about it. I especially love the voice acting, which is mostly a fictional language but it sounds like it could be a real one. A nice, short game for a weekend.

I've since started Sludge Life, because apparently I will just play anything now, and that's OK but a bit annoying; the aesthetic is nice but the controls are annoying, the way you have to climb to reach spots to bomb but you're much more likely to jump clean over the thing you're trying to get up onto. Still, it's fun enough and getting better as I get used to "the trick" of moving around. Weirdly it draws nearly 20W from my Deck even on low settings, way below native resolution and at 40Hz. Just poor optimisation.

Edit: done with Sludge Life, I enjoyed it enough to want to 100% it which took five hours. Turns out that there were two upgrades I didn't have yet when I wrote the above that made it much simpler.

No idea what to play next, too much to choose from. I'm pretty sure I bought as many games in the Steam sale as I've finished on my Deck, my backlog isn't getting any shorter.

After months of procrastinating I’m finally taking on Elden Ring, I bought it around launch but put it down after getting my ass handed to me multiple times.

I started a new game as an Astrologer. I’m still making a lot of mistakes and dying a lot but at least I kind of know what I’m doing now. I want to get the platinum for this game one day.
