What Is It That Makes Gran Turismo...Gran Turismo to You?

The non-linear feel of the game, where you can duck in and out of license tests or missions, do a few races, improve your lowly starter car to a point where you win the races. Then doing better and better races and winning more and more money until you have an embarrassment of riches and still a ton of races and gold medals to win/achieve.

Gran Turismo 4 encaspulates all that makes a GT game what it is. It's been downhill ever since.

PD’s ability to always leave out some long overdue feature(s) people have been continually asking for.

The grind, I hate it, it’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of any of them.

The livery editor is just wildly awesome in GT7, yet still lacks some simple features like a colour picker (eye dropper) to match up decal colors etc. Out of all the GT games, the livery editor has helped save the game for me. The driving experience is a lot better, it’s not sim but at least it’s getting there.

First booting up the game on release I didn’t know what to expect, first few drives… damn it’s still the same old game physics wise just a lot better, cars sound better too… but behind the times. It’s only now caught up to GT Legends which was 2004. And that’s after updates.

PD usually seems to remove cool things from previous games for some reason… ahem.. tune sharing

Class, elegance, and an attention to detail. Not only in how the cars are actually rendered, but also in how PD may include lesser-known models or brands. Just look at all the informational text you can read for each car in GT7, for example.

In fact, my first title, GT3, introduced me to Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, and Pagani. I likely wouldn’t have heard of any of them for some time if not for GT3.

Funny enough, GT4 introduced me to Callaway, and it took me all too long to find out that their HQ was about a five minute drive from my house!

I will say they have the history on each car, I don’t spend much time reading but we used to have these large post card type things of cars when I was a kid it was pretty much the same type of thing. I forget what they were called. But it had a picture of the car, a short write up and some specs.
