Really want to go to F&F5 but its not out yet here.

I saw SAW 6 last sunday night. Very good movie in the saw genre, was very sickening, almost too much (for my liking). Story was a little straight forward and easy to fill in. 7/10

Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus - 2010

Yes, it's the same Mega Shark that's in Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, which I really wasn't a fan of. For as bad as it was, for me it just didn't have that... something that makes a crap movie awesome. This one has it in spades. It's so painfully abstract that I'm laughing when I shouldn't be and eye rolling when I should be laughing. Gripes - How hard is it to keep the scale of these beast at least somewhat consistent? And the Naval ships they were on - one sunk in 1958 and was a completely different class as the one shown. But none of that matters. This flick is turn-your-bran-off-stupid-fun and for that - 10/10.

Did I mention is stars Jaleel White? - 11/10. :dopey:👍

Next up - Titanic 2. Fingers crossed it sucks.

Watched Thor yesterday, a marvel movie. Very good movie in all aspects, but nothing special in any particular one of them. The acting was believable and not too tryhardy, Thor was played very well by Aussie Chris Hemsworth (Who played Captain Kirk's father in a small cameo role in the latest Star Trek movie), good performances from Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins also.

In terms of comic book adaptions, I'd have to say this one would have to rate somewhere in the middle of Spiderman 1 (my personal favourite) and Transformers, probably equal to Iron Man. Great CGI scenes, especially in the ice world battle, and great chemistry between Portman and Chris. WORTH SEEING!!!

Rating 9/10

Well I watched both "The Fighter" and "The Hangover" in theatre but had both bought for me recently so just watched them again. Both are in my top 5 but The Fighter is probably my favorite movie of all time...Some of the best acting I've ever seen in a movie.

Hangover is a great comedy too always good for a laugh, very funny.

Edit:

Almost forgot I just saw Source Code in theatre last weekend and was quite impressed by it. Wasn't so sure about it but after watching it I was very glad we went to see it. Good all round movie and well worth the trip to see it.

For reference, you will have to explain where you rank Transformers as it is in the meh category for me. Just below Superman Returns and above The Hulk. Pretty much at the bottom of the list of comic adaptations I will watch more than once.

Transformers was a decent movie, made alot of money, but alot of explosions and robots and no story, no feeling, so definitely a meh movie as you put it, I'd rank it 2nd worst, ahead of none other than Transformers 2. As I mentioned earlier, I'll equal Thor to Iron man, great characters, great chemistry, great humour aswell. And the ending was stunning (be sure not to miss the after credits scene)

African Cats-
If you've seen Planet Earth and liked it, you'll like this. But if you don't like nature shows, don't bother.

Also, Samuel L. Jackson was the narrator, so after the movie all I could think was
"I've had it with these Mother****** Lions, on this Mother****** plain"
Yes, that was a pun.

Watched K-PAX last night. Except for a few minor flaws, it was a very enjoyable movie, even if the ultimate outcome was very predictable. Usually I only find Kevin Spacey's performances satisfactory, but he was really great in K-PAX.

TRON Legacy - 15/10
Don't really care about what others say about the rendered younger Jeff Bridges, yeah it's noticeably, but it doesnt detract from what I personally think is one of the best films I have ever seen. Not to mention it has a kick butt soundtrack that I've been listening to constantly the past few days.

Anyone who hasn't seen it, better get themselves a copy.

Fast Five (2011) - 9/10

Best one of the current five in my opinion. As a an all-out car lovers film it's below par (nothing seems to top the first movie in that regard), however, as an action movie...which, as I see things, is the proper way to rate/judge it...it's significantly better than all five. In fact, I'd wager it's the best (unexpected) action movie for Q2 and perhaps well in to the Summer. I'm writing up a full review over the weekend so if you're on the fence about seeing this (and trust me you shouldn't be) then keep a look out for it. The one thing I didn't like? They attempted to pass a CCX and CCX-R off as the same thing. Just...no.

Oh, and....

Letty isn't (that's right, is NOT) dead. Also, Eva Mendez makes a cameo appearance at the end.

Just watched The Lawnmower Man. With the exception of horrendous CGI, it's a pretty freakin' awesome movie. A remake would be epic if they modernized the story a little. Never gonna happen though. :P

"Fast n Furios 5" yesterday... sweet movie...and good cast...
only the sayings of the rock where a bit too chav/exaggerated...
but anyhow..i like the movie...better than part 4 which was a bit dissapointing to me...

Cría Cuervos (Carlos Saura, 1976) -- In Madrid, the orphan sisters Irene, Ana and Maite are raised by their aunt Paulina together with their crippled grandmother, after the death of their mother and their military father Anselmo. Ana is a melancholic girl, fascinated by death, after seeing her mother die a painful death and her father dead in bed. Ana thus comes to think she can control other people's fate thanks to a bit of poison she keeps. Indeed, the setting can be a bit disturbing and the results are exactly that, but the movie also has a bit of very good acting by the 10-year-old Ana Torrent, making every scene a deeply allegorical meaning. A good movie, but not for everyone. 7/10

Actually took more than one line from the book? Yeah, I agree. Then maybe Stephen King will let them use his name on it.

But...

Never gonna happen though. :P

I haven't read the short story, but if Wikipedia's summary of it is remotely accurate... The movie's story is a whole lot better. :P

Sucker Punch...

9 out of 10 on the

"I knew that girl from Lemony Snicket and a Series of Unfortunate Events was going to be a hottie one day"

scale.

90% of the people I've talked to did not even know what that car was. I don't think anybody but us car buffs will really get bothered by that.

Just got back from my second viewing, and I have to say, very few movies (at least the ones I'd go and see) have the ability to be just as exciting, interesting, and gripping through a second viewing. Fast Five is one of those movies that just happen to maintain it's composure even though you've already seen it before. Tyrese, man, he pretty much stole the show with his quick wit.

On to the quote...I noticed that they tacked a 'CCXR' badge onto the CCX, and again I'm sitting there going "Wha?" It lacked the color of the actual 'CCXR' badge and was instead the same color you'd find on the CCR and CCX. Still, the rear panel (not to mention the lack of full-body carbon fiber) is still a dead giveaway. And Roman says something about there only being 4 CCXR's in the world...which, last I checked, there were 6. What happened to the other two? Yes, I'm nitpicking but I'm a car guy...what do you want from me?

^ Maybe there was 4 at the time they wrote the script.

I watched it twice as well over the weekend. I saw it alone on Friday night, then went with my brother on Saturday night. Loved it both times. Great surprise at the end after the credits! Really can't wait to see the next one. :)

So... watched Thor. Disappointed in parts, elated in others, but the whole "Thunderations, I'm mortal!" portion in the middle of the movie felt both incredibly rushed and draggingly long at the same time.

Jane Foster (it's not much of a spoiler... this is in the beginning of the movie) gets one of the best movie makeovers of any character, anywhere. She goes from being a frail damsel-in-distress type nurse from the original Thor canon to being an astrophysicist. Wow. Big upgrade. Still, with one or two throwaway jokes, they acknowledge the existence of the canonical Donald Blake... somewhat.

Of course, if you're a comic book freak, you'll enjoy seeing the Warriors Three and other Thor background characters in the flesh. Though I'm rather saddened by the fact that Volstagg was so... thin... and that Hogun looks (and acts!) more like an Asgardian Ninja instead of the Mongolian warrior I remember him to be.

Others, like Sif, Heimdall, Odin and Loki were well-imagined, and though I have major issues with the Asgardian back-story, it was quite watchable and fun. Look for a cameo by a certain "Mystic Eye*" in the Asgardian weapons vault. At least I assume it is, though what else it could be, I don't know

If that isn't the Eye of Agamotto in the foreground as they walk by in the first vault scene, I'm Chtulu's Uncle.

Unfortunately, it's not quite the game changer that Iron Man was, and while it's very polished and very well made, falls short of the mark set by the Iron Man franchise. There's just not enough chemistry between the movie leads (the Portman curse, I guess), but the well-fleshed out Asgardian contingent do make me hope for a (better) sequel.

Thor: 7/10

Go and see it. If you like the FnF movies whatsoever, I can't think of any way you won't like this for the awesome action-infested movie it is. The one word of advice I can give is don't go in expecting it to be like the first movie where the cars are first and foremost. Now the cars play an important supporting role.

Metropolitan (Whit Stillman, 1990) -- In an apartment on Manhattan a group of friends from the New York upper-class meet almost every night to talk about social mobility, play bridge and discuss Fourier's socialism; the cynic Nick, the philosophical Charlie, party girl Sally and austenite Audrey. They are joined by Tom, whose background is much simpler and he is critical of their way of life, but he finds a soul mate in Audrey, who without his knowledge falls in love with him. The movie is one of these talking movies with long conversational scenes in which a lot may or may not happen, and where the social order of Manhattan specifically (though it does have a certain microcosmos feeling) comes into view. The characters are all flawed and doomed to this normal, boring lifestyle, yet remain to be attached to it due to the socilite upper-class feeling of it in general. There are a few scenes which I could've done without and some I wish were longer, but overall, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. 6/10

Wow, I think Tom Servo watches a different obscure movie every day. Then again, if he's been watching a movie a day for a while, eventually there'd be hardly anything left but the obscure ones. I hope he compiles all these reviews for a book or something, it's freaking epic.

Checked into this thread a little while back to get some notions of movies to check out, watched a few:

FF5: yeah, 8/10, best of the bunch. Fun, nice cars and action, believable characters with pretty good acting, writing didn't offend me.

HP7: um, 7/10? I get lost over the years exactly what's happening with Harry Potter. Feels too heavy recently especially this one. But pretty good as usual.

Thor: 6.5/10. Kind of silly, but pretty fun. Nice addition to the collection of comics made into B-movies, worth watching when you're in the mood for nothing serious.

Tron Legacy: unrated, didn't finish it. Totally couldn't get into the story, felt really weak and stretched. Too much eye candy, fluffy ideas that didn't make sense. Didn't buy the characters. Wasted 75 minutes before deciding to turn it off.
