I watched Hostel last night and despite the film being horribly violent and altogether sick and nasty, I quite enjoyed it :D I spotted a brief piece of music that I knew came from another film - and was even used in a similar scene - but I couldn't quite put my finger on it until good old imdb.com came up with the answer. In the scene when the backpackers are bonking the girls in the hostel, there's a song playing which is based on a song from 'The Wicker Man' - clever use of the song, since in 'The Wicker Man', the policeman is being seduced by a gorgeous woman and is unaware that the whole town is conspiring to bump him off - much the same as in the film, Hostel.

I saw a pretty good movie the other day: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (8.5/10). Despite being a tear jerker (not the movie you want to see when you're wife's been away for 2 weeks), I found it nice.

Also got to finally see Sideways (9/10). I've been looking for it in video stores and all around for about a year now and couldn't find it... so I had to use other, less traditional means.

Watched Blade Runner (10/10) for the Nth time. God, I love that flick.

Idiocracy (6.5/10)... anyone heard of this one? It's a Mike Judge movie. Could've been better, but it's what happens when you get a sci-fi low-budget movie.

25th Hour (6/10)... didn't think it was all that good, despite being a Spike Lee joint.

Saw The Crucible (7/10) yesterday as well. Lacked a sense of closure to the whole ordeal, me thinks.

And finally, Torn Curtain (1964, 7.5/10).- Classic Hitchcock, awesome use of camera and greatly intriguing film.

Your first five movies, I've seen. I liked them all.

"My wife was a retard, she's a pilot now!"

It gave me a lot of James Woods.

lol oh the puns keep coming. One thing else I will give that movie, Thomas Ian Griffith pulled off a good vampire look I thought.

Today I saw (weekends went from being my GT4 time, to being my movie time):

- The Boondock Saints (9/10)... awesome movie! Willem Dafoe is excellent, hilarious and so gay in it.

- The Simpsons Movie (7/10)... too much fuzz created around this one, so I was expecting much better.

- Syriana (8/10)... good movie, the sort you have to watch about three times to get the whole spectrum of it. Also because it had Dutch subtitles, and those subtitles covered the English subtitles all the time, so I really only understood the English parts :indiff:

Day of Wrath - 7/10.
Mission:Impossible - 7/10.
Poseidon - 6/10.Not so good as the original.
Glory - 7.5/10.
Mission:Impossible II - 7/10.
Mission:Impossible III - 7.5/10.

Saw Doom a few nights ago again. It's a good movie but they could have done a better job by a long shot. It's enjoyable enough though.

28 Weeks Later - 8.5 - I've never seen the first one but i've heard enough about it to get the jist of it. I'm a scaredycat for scary movies and can't take gore that well but I thought this movie was awesome. I had no intention of watching it when my parents said they were but I watched the first scene and liked it for some reason and sat down and watched it all. Pretty good, those damn savages!

I've been watching the first season of Heroes since Saturday... I'm hooked on it. I got home from work last night, skipped class and watched three episodes!

I'm not the first one to mention a TV series, you ass
Mr. Fatass to you! :D

Heroes is great. I haven't seen the Season II, because I don't like following tv series actually on tv. But I will catch it as soon as it's on DVD. 👍

Beowolf - (8/10)
Saw it few hours ago at the cinema. Impressive cg characters and alright characters. Sight of an animated Angelina Jolie covered in only liquid gold was the highlight of course. :D Room open for a sequel.

We rented The Bridge to Terabithia the other night, and I wasn't expecting anything of it. I just thought it was going to be one of those dodgy, happy, fantasy world movies with a crap storyline... but I was wrong. As it turned out, it was one of the saddest movies I have ever seen in my life. My sister sitting next to me ran off towards the end of the movie to grab a box of kleenex... And even I was trying hard not to cry (I'm a bloody 19-year-old male for christ sake!!). Overall it was a truly fantastic film... most probably the best I've seen all year. 👍 👍

^^^lol well, on your recommendations, Ill try and get a copy of it.

Anyway, ive just seen Deathproof. It wasnt as good as i expected, but all i got it for was to see them cars  It kinda didnt have a story line at all, just a maniac trying to kill off some girls...I give it 5/10

Well, what did you expect? It's a B-Movie made by a good director who is trying to be bad, and celebrating B-movies in general.

I thought Death Proof failed as a B-Movie(or imitating it). As a slasher film as well. I love Tarantino, but I thought he completely missed the point(I know, how dare I). Planet Terror was over the top, but it was so much funnier, and it did have much better B-Movie feel to it IMO.

Any who, I will watch it again and see if I think any different of this film. It is by Quentin Tarantino. ;)

I just saw Terminator 3... I saw it when it came out and didn't think much of it. I'm feeling the same way about it.

SPOILER WARNING:The contents of this post may reveal the ending of the movie.Only read this post if you have seen the movie or don't care what the ending is.

just finished watching 007:Casino Royale. I love James Bond movies and this one is my absolute favorite, the only thing i didn't like is the ending. he shoots the guy in the leg, says the best line in movie history and leaves you hanging (sorry if i just spoiled the ending for you). i can't wait for the next one thoug.

Hemisport15; If you didn’t like that ending, then may I make a suggestion? Don't watch the Original Italian Job... that ending will kill you! (It almost killed me ).

Man From Earth - Great Sci Fi with no noticeable SFX. One of the most rewarding "straight to video" I've seen. I loved the way it involved religion and bible, too.

Plot: At his farewell bash in a cabin in the remote woods, Professor John Oldman (David Lee Smith) makes a shocking confession to his fellow scholars: he is actually an immortal who has been living on earth for the past 14,000 years. So begins this thought-provoking sci-fi drama which follows his colleagues as they struggle to figure out whether Oldman is telling the truth or merely deranged. from rottentomatoes.com

Even with the lame acting and weak cinematography, "B+"

Live Free or Die Hard - It might be the best Die Hard I've seen. Not saying that much. I thought Die Hard was great when I was younger, not so much these days. This one was a good rental. "C+"

Planet Terror - First time I've seen it on DVD. It was bit too gross for me, but very funny film. I still liked it, Rodriguez really have a knack for making horror flicks. 👍 "B+"

Firefly then Serenity - I've seen Serenity before. I think I gave it an A or B last time. But this time, I saw Firefly, the TV series, first.

Firefly barely had enough episodes to finish one season. From what I understand, it was cancelled early. Firefly is pretty damn good in my book. It's become one of my favorite TV series on DVD. I'd give it a "B+"

The TV series leads up to Serenity. After watching Firefly, and getting used to the characters, the ship, getting attached to them, Serenity(the film) becomes very special. What was a very good SF film to me before, it has now become one of my favorite films of any genre. "A+" Sci Fi adventure of very best kind. 👍
