Yesterday, I got an MDA Vario II from T-Mobile.

They wanted £90 for it, but I gave them nothing. I'm not using it fully yet, but what I have used, I like. I've got it connected to my e-mail server, and it can connect via 3G or WLAN. Once my home PC is back up and running, I'll synchronise it with Outlook, and all my Calendar and Contacts will be on the phone. Then I've just got to wait for the PAC to come through to transfer my number from Vodafone.

I'm looking into getting one those smart phones as it would be really handy for work but I'm just worried about the bulk of the phone? How are you finding it? Is it awkward to have it in your pocket etc?

No it's fine. And it comes with a belt pouch for if you're that way inclined.

Battery life isn't great though.

I picked up as Motorola Q and am very happy with it. (See my review in teh product review forum). The bulk is very minimal, it really doesn't have any issue working as a phone or a PDA. In fact, I've banned people via phone.

Right out of the box I opted for the long life battery. I knew I'd use it, and I do.

I also have a Moto Q now. The phone quality is great, build quality is great, and the Internet features work pretty well also. Checking email is real easy, MSN messenger works good, and most web pages are acceptable. I usually get around 100kb/s connection with it.

If you are wanting a PDA or whatever but you don't want/need a touchscreen, get a Q. A friend of mine has a Treo that he was just given a week after I got my Q. It is nearly three times as thick. I don't know how you could have one in your pocket, but I can barely notice the Q is there. For size reference, it is roughly the size of an iPod video, but a little bit shorter and wider.

Belt pouches are definite no for obvious reasons. Battery life is worrying because my phone lasts about 2-3 days at the moment. I guess it won't matter too much as it will be sitting in its cradle at work.

Motorola L6 Black. I like it, it's got basic cell phone needs like calls, logs, messages...Then it has camera, video, mp3, games, Bluetooth...

I just bought one of these tonight when I switched to Cingular, it's pretty neat I guess.

They are gonna milk the RAZR for all its worth, aren't they? How many versions are there now?

The platinum looks nice. My cousin has a gunmetal one, but I wish it was more of a glossy, brighter finish.

I just wish it had a decent battery life.

RAZRs don't last very long? I thought only we smartphone/PDA users had those troubles now. Maybe you can shut some things off? Bluetooth can use some power, along with any sort of email program or whatever the RAZR may have that maintains some sort of internet connection.

Ya I'll have to do that. My talk time is only a couple of hours and I tend to be on my phone a lot for whatever reason.

Question for Motorola RAZR V3 owners....

How the heck do you copy your photos and videos from the camera to your PC?

I've read through the manual and still can't seem to find any reasonable answers. I even tried connecting the phone using a USB cable, but my PC keeps requesting installation software, of which the phone make no mention of.

I got this phone as an additional freebie back in March, and so I rarely use it, but I took some photos with it recently and then realized I had no idea how to copy the photos to my PC. :ouch:

You mean yours didn't come with its usb cable and software? Then you should buy one for it. If you already have the USB cable then just go to the Motorola website and download the software, it should be free.

Either that or buy a usb bluetooth dongle for your pc.

You should have got something called Motorola Phone Tools on a CD with your phone. I got it with my V3X, but I had to return it when it went wrong.

Strangely, Moto seem to be reluctant to include it with most of their RAZR and SLVR models. You can buy it from Motorola, or just obtain it using over means. Annoyingly, the software is the only way to actually get your phone to work with your PC - Motorola refuse to release drivers outside of Phone Tools.

There used to be a few drivers around for Moto phones, but I just can't find any. Sorry :( Your best chance would be to look at Howardforum.com, though.

Thanks FatAssBR & Jondot for the responses.

I saved the box and kept everything it came with inside and there was no software or cable. Even the box says right on the side of it that it only contains the following:
  • User Manual
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Parental Control Insert
  • Device Charger
  • Device (phone)
  • Battery

As I mentioned I do have the appropriate USB cable that came with a different phone, but no software. Unfortunately I didn't see on Motorola's support site an option for downloading PC software. When I get the chance I try look more closely or find another source.

One other possibility is that the phone is bluetooth enabled. I wonder if I can get it synched with the PS3 and transfer the photos to the PS3 then save them to a USB drive and transfer them to my PC?

Or I could get a bluetooth USB device for the PC and possibly transfer it that way? It still seems like I would need some proprietary software from Motorola in order to locate the appropriate files from the phone's memory?

Adding to my troubles, it looks like my wireless router just died on me... :ouch:

MobilEdit works for my wife's RAZR.

Tulok
motorola V170...
Don't worry, you're not alone; my V180 only makes and takes phone calls, that's all I need anyhow. Photos are for my Canon 300D, text is what I do with a pen, and chat is something I do when there's not a phone in my hand. I sound old, don't I?

I got myself one the top of the line Nokia's. The only thing it lacks is a camera.

I have the Nokia E61. I love it's massive screen and qwerty keypad. Wifi on it is super handy!

One of my co-workers had her cell phone stolen and she asked me to find a new one for her (I had already helped her to buy the old one). She said it had to be a white slider phone. I've searched the web a bit and found this one:

Samsung U600

She liked it so we bought the phone, and it just arrived this morning. Haven't played with it much yet but it seems to be a great product. It has a 3.2MP autofocus camera, memory card slot, stereo bluetooth 2.0, a 2.2" 256k colors screen and the phone is pretty slim. Thinnest slider phone on the market as I've read.

Though she was a bit annoyed with its touch sensitive buttons (soft keys and answer/cancel call buttons), but she'll get used to it I guess. I would really like a black or blue version of this phone to myself, too bad I can't afford it right now.

Suzzie has that exact same phone, but in black. Awesome wallpaper:P it gets set to the capital city of the country your in and it changes from day to night in real time..

As for me:

Nokia 6230i

I think I could as well list the entire history of mine here...

Siemens C35i - basic but good.
Nokia 3210 - never understood why this was so popular.
Siemens A50 - again basic but really good. The most comfortable phone I've had.
Siemens M55 - my entry to the colour screens and polyphonic ringtones. Pretty good.
Siemens M65 - a very good phone. The only downside is the easily scratched screen.
Siemens M75 - very good as long as it lasted. I (61 kg) fell on it and just busted it. So much for the shock resistance.
Samsung Z540 - good hardware, bad software. Sold it after four months.
Sony Ericsson K800i - not going to change for a while. I have yet to find a downside on this one.
