What Racing Games Are Better than GT5?

Ohhh ok, so it's not me. Unlike what someone said before the game is NOT living up to EVERYTHING they claimed. I see. Thank you.

I'm awarding you the title of Most Argumentative Person on the forum at the moment. đź‘Ť Its up to you whether you're proud of the accolade.

You can put the trophy on the shelf next to the one you got for Being Right All The Time About Everything.

This đź‘Ť

If Forza 3 had custom online lobbies I probably wouldn't have 2 PS3s now.

Forza 3 has alot more shortcomings than just no custom public lobbies. But, I'd probably not have a PS3 either if it had them. I'd atleast have been able to set up a lobby and race what I wanted to race, where I wanted to race with like minded people that wanted to race stock built R class cars.

That's the real shame of T10 and their arrogance in that decision. They were so convinced they were right in the move. Countless people in the community pleaded with them that the hoppers would end up being a wasteland. And sure enough, that's what they are.

Ahhh the old "personal attack", last vestige of desperate man. When all rational arguments fail go for the mud slinging.

Yes it was indeed a poor decision on their part. You can do all that in private lobbies but just not in public lobbies. Let's hope they heard the people and bring it back. I personally only race people i know so it doesn't affect me but I definitely want it back in for those who need it. More options are always better than less (for the most part)

Not at all - I have in fact stated no opinion in any direction and therefore have taken no sides in any argument. I simply find the tone of your posts to be overly confrontational and belabouring the assumption that only your opinion is valid. Its common behaviour on forums but I've noticed that you are unusually tenacious. Bravo.

I was quite rational in my stating of such, which was presented as irreverant sarcasm as opposed to mud slinging. :)

(I also think you meant "last resort" as opposed to "vestige")

My rational argument would read something like "GT4 is a better racing game than GT5 because it has more events, was more representative of the limits of the technology of its platform(PS2), did not illicit the "Now, now, now" response of the human condition, and made no promises it couldn't keep".

Shift 2 Unleashed will be out in March (towards the end). It promises FAR better physics and wheel FFB than Shift 1.

Were it not for those two features, Shift 1 would ALREADY be a MUCH better 'game' than GT5. It is WAY more immersive, it is WAY more fun, there's NO grind whatsoever, it has a better selection of real world tracks (and Shift2's puts GT5 to shame), it has a better balance of cars you WANT to drive (only two Skylines!), it's online includes Spec races (everyone in identical cars), its sounds are far more exciting than GT5, it has a REAL 'hood cam' (no disembodied tach and speedo 'invisible car' view), ALL cars have an interior view, its AI are fast and aggressive...

And all of that will be better in Shift 2.
Physics=No
Interior Views=Awsome
AI=Questionable(Can't add to that. Sorry.)

Mine is pre-ordered, and unless Kaz gets out two patches that fix the #1 & 2 major gripes here (the grind and the AI), or Shift 2 turns out FAR worse than Shift 1, I'm outta here!
Not worse but cool stuff implemented.

Can't really say much or anything about it lol. But those were some of my opinions after trying it. Its closer to Grid than GT5 or Forza.

Keep in mind its not finished.

Pretty much most other racing games have better racing. It'd be nothing more than a fanoby that says the RACING in GT5 is better than any other racing game. I'm not talking about the cars, the graphics, the tracks, but the actual racing.

If the physics, the graphics and the tracks are the best, then racing is the best... What else do you expect in racing? Power ups? IT is not Mario Kart... LOL

GT5 IS structurally flawed, there's no doubt about that but there's a massive gulf in quality between GT5 and the next best driving game. I feel that GT5 has been hampered by the massive expectation that preceeded it but for me, a relative newcomer to the GT games, it's quality is second to none. It's the only game I've played since the day it came out and it's getting better with each new update.

"belabouring" or belaboring as I know it, is in the eye of the reader.

I meant vestige or I wouldn't have put it ;)

Irreverant sarcasm aside (or Irreverent also as I know it) it's a curiosity to me as to why you'd want to single me out.

Believe me by now MANY mods have had my forum name sitting in their in-box with complaints by now. If the mods don't see anything to merit such "praise" then why others.

Yeah, you can do that in private lobbies. But, you still have to jump through hoops. Especially when most of your friends prefer to race slower stuff, and you like racing race cars. And I'll never forget the dumbest suggestion of all time put forth by some T10 lackey that people needed to get on to the forums and post in their find a race thread to fill up their lobbies.

And it really killed any chances of meeting new people. My friends list is full of people I met in the CPL's of both PGR2 and Forza 2. Not a single person on my list that I met from FM3.

What do I expect? Let's see...
Proper collision physics, proper sound, proper AI, qualifying, better penalty system for starters.

Not true at all. A lot of people in this thread having pointed out that driving in GT5 is probably the best on a console, but the racing is not.

There are no flags, qualifying, rules, etc.

I agree with everything you said except that part. I don't see where you have to "jump through hoops". You just setup a private lobby and from there it's pretty much just selecting what you want to do. But you're right about everything else. I have two groups of friends in the racing genre. The one group is very calm and we all race whatever so there isn't any fighting about which cars to race, but the other is like you said, everyone fighting about which class. lol

In my opinion . . .
Considering only titles that are currently available, graphics, features, cars, tracks, tuning, customization, online/offline, physics . . . Forza 3 is the best RACING game available for consoles*, especially for the price- $30 for Unlimited Version NEW.

*If you're an F1 fan, F1 2010 is solid.

The GT5 advancements so many people love are all non-racing elements . . . graphics, car #, weather. Most everyone would agree that the best racing is found online on any title, with human drivers. GT5 was the last franchise to implement online play, and it shows by it's lack of lobby configuration options and it's cheesy BOOST feature (which IMO is as bad as REWINDS in FM3.) The alternative to online racing is career mode . . . which, given the lackluster AI and broken credit models, leaves GT5 as not much more than a $60 disappointment when it comes to RACING. Again, my opinion, and too each their own with respect.

GT5 has physics and the 'Ring. But is a lousy game in most every other detail. GT4 players had six years to crow, and go that the NEXT GT game would blow every other console racer out of the water. I imagine the next six years will be FAR quieter!

PD know graphics, and they know physics, but they have forgotten how to make a GAME.

Though I don't feel as strongly as you about it, I do agree. I enjoy GT5, but it was a bit of a let down. I was especially disappointed at the lack of real world tracks, and online elements (spec races and the like). Hopefully the update coming out tomorrow fixes some of that. I am looking forward to Shift 2 though.

GT4
the original Need For Speed on PS1
any racing game that held my interest for more than the three weeks the GT5 occupied me.

"belabouring" or belaboring as I know it, is in the eye of the reader.
I'm English so I use the correct (english) spelling :)

I meant vestige or I wouldn't have put it ;)
Then you misused it. Vestige means remnant or trace of something lost or vanished. Since I have not been lost nor vanished, my "personal attack" (or "award" as I choose to call it) cannot be a vestige of me but is, rather, something I resorted to... or would be if I had been involved in any debate prior to that post. :)

Irreverant sarcasm aside (or Irreverent also as I know it) it's a curiosity to me as to why you'd want to single me out.
Yeah I did mis-spell irreverent, well spotted. I already told you why I singled you out. I even gave you an award. đź‘Ť

Believe me by now MANY mods have had my forum name sitting in their in-box with complaints by now. If the mods don't see anything to merit such "praise" then why others.
Because you don't specifically break the rules and the mods are not fascists. Others take exception to your manner, which is bullish and arrogant. You also attack what you consider to be fanboyism while exhibiting many characteristics of such yourself.

You also missed the fact that I mis-spelled "representative". đź‘Ž

On topic: The racing experience in GT5 is relative - with an uncompetitive car, racing can be great. I think specifically its that the AI doesn't seem to dirve the cars to the limits of performance.. possibly a deliberate attempt to allow slower, less aggressive, players to still have a good go so to speak.

I'd possibly cite rFactor (with mods) as a superior racing game to GT5 but the more aggressive AI can cause some spectacular problems in a close race...

That's hardly racing. That's overtaking the AI in the corners and having them overtake you on the straights.

go watch some old BTCC with Mini's that dominated in the corners, but larger, faster cars that dominated on the straights, that was racing.

This is mostly a question for those who are "disappointed" with GT5. What racing games are better than GT5?.
For me, Forza. Race Pro is also better in some areas for me than GT5, but GT5 is better than Race Pro in some areas, so I guess that might be a tie.

Actually I didn't miss that. But at some point it becomes annoying to single them out.

Others take exception to your manner, which is bullish and arrogant. You also attack what you consider to be fanboyism while exhibiting many characteristics of such yourself.

I exhibit none of these, sorry but had you read ALL my posts here you would know that. If one singles out what they don't like then of course they could say that. Read my sig, it explains it all.

The Minis were still BTCC cars that were competitive, not hopelesly inferior. In the case of the Mini, it was because the car was faster in the corners and slower on the straights. In GT5, the AI's cars should be faster everywhere.

I got fed up with GT5 a few days ago now. Just a culmination of all the little bugs and other annoying things finally getting the better of me. So I decided to go back to a game that has had me entertained at least as long as GT4 - years.
Not sure if it can be considered highly as a "racing" title, but the original Test Drive Unlimited, it sure makes for some great "driving"! In Hardcore Mode at least, only played standard mode on the PS2 version, and again to unlock Hardcore on PC.
Fired up TDU (PC) after hard-cutting the power to the PS3, and within two minutes was blasting around Hawaii in Zondas, Lotuses (Lotii? lol), and Ferraris, to name a few.
Some of you may know of TDUs Hardcore Mode flaws (gravity, for one), but none of this seems to bother me when listening to the hellish scream of a TVR Sagaris or Lamborghini Murcielago powersliding through near endless hairpins on some of the decently rendered mountains of Oahu.
The force feedback with my DFGT leaves nothing to be desired, unlike GT5s comparative "bumps" here and there. Lose the back end, and the front wheels actually turn into the slide, and I can let the steering wheel slip through my fingers, then catch it just at the right time to avoid heading the other way. And the overall FF strength, maybe its just thanks to PC software for the wheel, but it can be set so much higher, it makes GT5s maximum feel like I was short changed.
Just driving all these roads is endless fun by ones-self. Doing a full lap of the whole island, going up and down the really good mountain roads on the way, takes at least 90 minutes, more if theres traffic to dodge, and one never has to look at the same piece of tarmac twice!
I'm a fan of the Nordschleife, but that seems like a merry go round compared to this.

Also considering putting a few more hours into Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli (PS3). I remember the input controls seemed a bit funny to start with, but after an hour odd things were comfortable. The racing against the AI on this one was a much closer battle than any I have ever had on any GT games past. I'm pretty sure I have yet to win a race on the highest difficulty setting too.

Whatever happens, I don't think I'll be touching GT5 until after the next update, whenever that may be.

I own GT5, TDU, TDU 2. For me, the most realistic is GT5 because, well, it's the REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR but when I fire up TDU and cruise with my DB4 GT Zagato on the twisty roads in the area near the Cadillac and Triumph showrooms, it's far more entertaining and less boring than having to grind Indy 500 gazillions of time just to reach level 30 A-Spec for something called Red Bull X2010. So if I'm bored of GT5, I fire up TDU2 on my PS3 and have some fun.

As it happens... That may be tomorrow :D

May-Be!
I just feel so relieved after not feeling required to grind the past few days so I could buy some rare car from the UCD, or tune a couple of what I already have.
Might give it till early next week, then Ill have some new seasonals, and a higher % chance of an actual update...we all know how "reliable" PD have been the past few years...đź‘Ž

I'm there too.
Actually I'm not going to touch it until after the patch has been out for a while, and I've seen a useful list of changes from somewhere.
(and maybe not even then if it's no good)

I'm not going to take the bait and turn GT5 back on because somebody might have fixed something somewhere.
When the public beta period is finally over I'll be back, but I'm not going to play a lousy version of GT5 while I wait for a good version that may or may not ever come.
